Does this mean that the game is not open-ended, like Mass Effect 2? Or is this just the worst possible ending, like Shepard dying in ME2's suicide mission? That seems more likely to me. I'm gonna have to make my decisions at the end carefully. There has to be an alternative.

Two days until the game comes out. And I'm going to find out for myself.

Shepard lives in the perfect ending. This has been confirmed via the Prima Offical Guide so no BS. You must pick the destroy ending for shepard to live.

I'd rather see new IP's than an extended universe.  Bioware, George Lucas would be proud.
