track 13 has some dark undertones the first half. Second half of it gives me the feeling of something major happens.
track 8 I liked alot too.

The End Once and For All (the ending music):
The Ardat Yakshi:
The Fleets Arrive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CHyFqB3eqg
Earth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9jet3b3tjg&feature=related
You can listen to the whole channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/MassEffect3OST
I thought alot of them were Mansell pieces based off the fact they sound very melencholic with a piano accompying the piece.

might refrain from listening to it so ive going something ace to listen to whilst game is being installed and dlc downloaded. But so hard to resist...
FAILED!
Loving the epic songs. Just by hearing snippets, i think leaving earth is probably going to be one of my faves, as it touches my heart, and if i didn't know better, i'd say the end credits sounds like a remixed version of the end credits on me1

The End Once and For All reminds me of music from The Fountain.
Yeah I said that earlier in a different thread. Love, that melencholic tone to it. Something you could just listen to all day during a rainy day.
A shame Mansell didn't direct more pieces, but I gues he's a busy guy and a film ost probably takes higher priority than a game ost.
But that said, at least he gave us 2 beautiful tracks, and at least the rest of the tracks are just as good (if not slightly better).

Hi all
As many of you have mentioned, the soundtrack's content doesn't directly correlate to the content in the game. There are different requirements for both the soundtrack and the game. There was a LOT of original music in ME3 (I think we ended up with about three hours in the end) and condensing that into a soundtrack that made sense in it's own right meant a lot of pieces were left out.
I'm really happy with how it turned out though... and I tried to name the tracks in a non-spoilerific way... but the names will TOTALLY make sense once you play the game. Put a lot of thought into the naming
Just so you know, we generally have music composed into tiny chunks that are then assembled at runtime to create what you hear in game based on what you're doing. It's very difficult to turn that into a soundtrack that SOUNDS like a soundtrack and not just a bunch of random cues crossfaded together... so I'm really glad you're liking it!
Finally, as has been mentioned, wave files are the best quality format to have. You're essentially getting the final, highest quality assets, straight from my sound editor to you. If you want to make them into MP3's or ogg or whatever else, that's totally your choice. Let me know if this is a real pain so in the future we can reassess how we deliver the soundtracks.
Looking forward to next week, can't wait!!!
R
I'm sure a million and one people have already quoted this and all, but thanks for the information, Rob. That was a nicely informative post -- indeed, yours typically are. I can't say I'm interested in the music industry myself, although I am interested in plenty of other art-related careers, so it's always fun hearing from a primary source how these things work out.

Am I the only one whose reminded of Lost in some of these pieces
I'm getting vibes from half a dozen sources and LOST is one of them, but it's farther down the list.

Am I totally alone in that respect?
Case in point-would the tune that keys up in Bastion when you 1st run across whats-her-face be that inspiring if you already have heard it outside the game?
Just sayin'.

I wouldn't know re: Bastion, but personally I only listened to three tracks. I won't spoil myself even on this limited selection.

Not really. For example hearing the last piece "A End Once and For All" isn't exactly a powerful orchestrated piece. It's a piece thats simple in some respects, yet pours with emotion.
It's the type of piece that you might listen in the game, and go meh. It doesn't really strike an impact with you at first, but after various repeat listens it becomes, almost, more impactful. An when you hear it again, the same piece you've heard countless times over and over again, it resonates with you in a stronger fashion.

I haven't heard that much of Mansell to say whether it's his style but I wonder if as someone stated earlier if he worked more as the musical director rather than an individual composer in regards to guidance. We know from previous statements that each composer was pretty much given freeroam in their part but maybe Mansell gave out certain advice or something.
