Why so little dialogue options?

The biggest part of a RPG to me is dialogue options and decision making, I know alot of options have no effect on the game, but that doesn't matter; they effect the experience by creating a different character everytime you play based on the personality you give to the character through even the smallest choices you make.
Anyway I hope this was only due to it being still near the begining of the game and that it picks up after this part. But it's a very linear game so far from what I've seen, and it's pretty worrying. Apart from that everything else I seen looked fantastic and I can't wait to play it.

The auto dialogue works only if you choose "Action" at the beginning of the game, otherwise you can choose as you always did.

I've seen hours of ME3 gameplay today from those who already have the game. Just be aware of this before you play, otherwise you'll be in for a rude shock

The stream I'm watching is on RPG mode.

Now I haven't actually seen proof that there are more options in RPG mode..
I mean as far as I know there isn't a single vid och confirmation that ther eare multiple choice conversations in the game..
And the demo RPG mode also only had two choices..

I'm certain I saw the player selected ''RPG mode'' at the start.

Its because Mass Effect is apparently just a shooter now instead of a shooter/rpg blend.
This.
Everyone's correct that action mode picks dialogue choices for you.
However, that's NOT what the OP is asking. He's asking why there aren't many dialogue choices to begin with.
It's because this is where the story gives way to action.
It's the "climactic part," if you want to be optimistic.
And it's the "Bioware sold out to the CoD crowd," if you want to pessimistic/cynical.

I'm actually very suprised that i'm making this thread as I'm actually looking forward to the game very much so. But anyway; whilst I watching a video I noticed a sheer lack of dialogue choices, Shepard seem's to auto-dialogue most stuff, and the rest of it consisted of just two choices at a time mostly. I watched to about Shepards first visit to the Citadel as I didn't want to spoil too much for myself, but this is worrying.

Let me put this to bed right now having played the game all the way through already. There is just as much dialouge options in ME3 as in ME2. The videos are videos and are cut like any other video. You can still spend 10 minutes talking to one person.
What is different in this game is that you have the CHOICE to have dialouge automated for you and have a more third person shooter experience. Before you start, you are given three choices: Roleplaying, Action and Story. Choose RP and you'll have your typical ME experience. Any questions, let me know.

No.
Story mode gives the same choices as RPG mode, but it makes the action incredibly easy. Think playing ME2 on the lowest difficulty.

Ah, my friends. I don't know how to break this to you, but in ME3 Shepard's dialogue consists mainly of the auto variety. He mostly speaks without player input. And when we can choose his dialogue, it is ALWAYS a choice of two dialogue options.

sadly this is acurate, <_ the amount in auto dialoge is disturbing, everything we saw so far tells us that BW has dumb down this series, with no real impact in choices we make, or have made in last 2 games, but hey, now new kids can jump in ALL OUT GALACTIC WARFARE, because you know "it's a great place to jump in ME universe" :huh:dear God I hate that line

No. Story mode is just RPG mode with the combat difficulty at minimum and the level-up mode set to auto. RPG and Story modes will both have equal amounts of dialogue and morality choices.

Question, has it been stated/guaranteed by the devs that there is just as much dialogue? Honest question because I haven't seen anything like that but I HAVE seen the dev quote that 'Mass Effect is not an rpg, its a shooter'. It just seems like some of the rpg options have been slimmed down from what I've heard.

There is more dialogue, that's been stated a few times by devs.
However, dialogue =/= choice in dialogue, unfortunately.

As in this case it seems to mean 'autodialogue'.
