gameplay is gonna be good, story not so good. Endings will be sad and depressing, all of them. My advice: play it as a nobrainshooter and not as an rpg
How does this follow? Are RPGs supposed to have happy endings?
I would submit that they're supposed to have *satisfying* endings. You don't necessarily need a happy ending to be a satisfying one, but its extremely hard to make that kind of ending work. At the end of the day, players have spent ages getting to grips with their character and their character's team... simply binning them off is not going to really work no matter how 'bittersweet' or 'realistic' such an ending is.
I'm going to withold judgement until I play it... but the kind of stuff being mentioned on the forums isn't exactly filling me with confidence. I'd hate to think my favourite franchise gets the Matrix treatment.
I feel the endings are satisfying.

Come to think of it, alot of RPGs I've loved have had kinda weak endings, KotOR 1 included.
Revan got a medal. I wanted Shepard to get a medal too!

I'm not, or at not until I've heard something to convince me that all the spoilers aren't quite as bad as they sound.BuffPhantoms wrote...

And if you find it funny that people complain about a downright depressing ending to a series that they've come to love then that's also depressing.

Given KotOR's laughable plot twist, I hardly see ME3 will be worse than that.

Most of us are interested in ME3 because we played and liked ME1/ME2, and those games had an at least satisfying ending (i'd even say happy). So i expect(ed) this ME3 to have a satisfying and epic ending as well, to end this trilogy in the best way possible...

If the endings are not Disney happy end, into the sunset sort of things I'm fine with it. I just hope that there are sufficient shades of grey that reflect our decisions in the 3 games.
If your statement is true, according to what i have read and seen on youtube you will be disappointed.

if you play it as an RPG you might start caring about the story and the characters... and in the end you might get disappointedI mean i remeber people getting mad about the choice of kaidan and ashley on ME1, well ME3 will bring that to a whole new level ^____^
Caring about the story and characters simply doesn't mean that characters shouldn't get killed. I remember people whining about Serenity too... but they were fools.

Happy doesn't necessarily mean epic. In ME2, when Shepard was the last man alive during the suicide mission and watching him fall to his death, that was epic but still sad.

Wasnt the point of the ME series to create your own Shepard and walk through the story your way?
Then why is it wrong some people want to have Shepard walking in to sunset with their LI? And have the ending they want to THEIR story.
Ofcourse I dont know all the endings, but I hope the endings are really different from each other.
I mean you make certain choices in all 3 games, and is it so hard for Bioware to make the last ending of the Shepard story like everybody wants and all their (important) choices will reflect in those endings?
Look at The Witcher 2, it has alot of different endings depending on your choices. And if CD Project Red can do something like that, that I think Bioware can do that to
This.
Why is it so wrong in everyone's eyes that I would want to have a happy ending? I don't mean sunshine and bunnies frolicking. I would consider a happy ending anything that ends with Shepard and their LI or their friends going about and figuring out now, "How do we rebuild from this?". But I mean ME1 or ME2 were happy to me. Obviously there will need to be rebuilding of Earth and other civilizations. And people will die.
I just think there should be some control over this by the player. Characters and relationships and things should not just be doomed from day one. I didn't go through all the effort with my Shep, weighing their choices and pondering what to do and who to save in order to have everything be doomed.

But you could have saved him by playing differently/better! That's the whole point! In me3 no matter what you do and how you do it, in the end you're gonna fail anyway

Hey, the DS ending wasn't bad.
My favorite KotOR ending was the cut LS/DS ending, where a DS female PC kills Malak, only to be confronted by Carth. The player can then let Carth redeem her to the light side, and the Republic fleet sends the Star Forge, Carth, and the PC crashing into the sun.
Making that the canon ending would have really helped out KotOR 2.

Haha, I forgot about that one!
But you're right, it's really only the light side ending that feels so lacking.

It was the best ending but it was also the most specific. Requirements...
Female
Romanced Carth

Don't kill Carth

Have only vague/abstract idea of what the endings are now. I think I would be too depressed if I looked buuut..
I also wanted my fairytale/happy ending.
After all, if you work for it and are willing to put the effort in/play better then that should be reflected. You shouldn't be doomed regardless of your choices.

That would be boring and predictable and the fact the endings have everyone talking shows they did something that nobody was expecting. And also that some people are butt hurt because they need glory to like a game where they can save the world and feel better about themselves.

I thought Carth always ran away?
But yeah, I never would have seen that since IIRC I didn't play any DS females.
