Is it hard for anyone else to take this universe seriously anymore?

Perhaps they do have free will , but they all have chosen to continue the cycle. shepard can choose it if he wants.
the leaked videos and dialogue makes it seem like the Reapers do not have free will, cause they are controlled by the Guardian, although the Guardian might have free will to an extent, but he must still be programmed to a certain degree which limits him, otherwise he himself would be a tech singularity in the form of a sentient AI thus be a contradiction to the Reaper cycles purpose.
Btw would that mean that the Guardian is the uploaded minds of that original race? or is he simply an AI that was created by them for this purpose, and their actual minds lie dormant inside the first reaper construct? its hard to tell.

Maybe he is a compilation of all the races ever turned into reapers. There is so much room for interp here , that speculation seems to be the norm.

Sorry but your opinion towards it Treo, is not factual.
nothing here is factual, including your opinion, but at least our opinions about this is supported by the reaction on this plot, not only this time, but also when battlestar galactica and the matrix was concluded. And at least with those two other franshises it was a bit more original and it fit the tone and lore of their respective universes, and their reasoing behind the plot was more thought out and developed.
you havent had any reasonable argument to why this plot ISNT bad either.
Mass effect on the other hand is a game where gamers are supposed to create their own storyline to a degree, e where promised that our choices would influence the ending in a meaningful way, but it only seems to be dependant on a choice you make in the end, and then your GaW score determines how many of your squadmates survive on that unknown planet.
this was there last game so they could have made the endings way more different without thinking about having to tie it up later.
the tech singularity was a stupid idea in this universe considering the options they had.
You can't just say "it's stupid because I think so" and then roll with that.
We had a huge thread a thread a week before that which was discussing it and I participated there with thousands upon thousands of words in regards to the posts I made, so yes, I made logical points and people agreed. You isolate yourself here, well done.
Well, yeah you can say that it's stupid, in the context of the ME Trilogy.
ME1: Reapers are incomprehensible in their motives.
ME2: Dark energy somehow may be a factor
ME3: Dark Energy is dropped as a plot device.
The ending is poorly foreshadowed, the Reapers construction direction and motivation show it to be flawed, based on fear of Tech Singularity, same as Quarians, Geth and the Dyson Sphere.
Also the ending is suddenly framed as a legend told to a boy by his grandfather. Which is a break of the Story Framing. If it started as a legend, it would make more sense.
Subjectively, it's a bad ending IMO, because it changes from being an interactive game to a more straight narrative. It also changes the focus of the ending, (character relationships and the near future) to things the player has no real connection to, (galatic stability, earth survival in thousands of years)
Objectively, it's a badly written plot because of the changes of focus of whats important to the storyline, and because plot devices are dropped and others picked up. It also reveals that the Reapers were not gods or highly intelligent at all (They couldn't figure out what to do to fix things, only how to harvest, kill and build reapers) and so now they no longer have incomprehensible motives.
Basically, one of the devs said there was 'no reaper off button'. But now there is. But it's more of a Circuit breaker.
They said that there would be many endings to account for player choice. There are three main ones, that do not reflect player choice, and are beyond the scope of the relationships and characters you have grown attached to.

Well said Muskau, these endings cheapen the Reapers, they used to be intimidating, but now they just seem stupid and that Kid guardian completely contradicts many of the things Sovereign said in the first game, terrible writing.
