bioware should include me1 registration within this community so you can see it as a medal under your avater as the other games.
Totally agree. It's sucky enough that I can't see ME1 as one of my registered games anymore <_<

I can't simply install it, even without steam online,
Hey AvrurakiN - Not really sure what problem you are having. Could you give some more details if you haven't gotten it installed already?

Hey people. I get the following Error message when i try to run the BDtS .exe that EA support has given me twice now plus using links that have been posted to use with CD Keys. The message is: "Mass Effect: Bring Down the Sky Setup; Mass Effect is not found. Please reinstall the game from the original source and try again." Is there a reason that i am getting this message? I don't understand where the problem is happening. What do i do to solve it?
Russdm and kmetek - Did you try to use the BDtS download link I provided in the original post here? Other useful info would be what OS you have on your computer(s) and what version of Mass Effect (the full game) you are using - i.e. retail disc, Steam, Origin/EA download etc.
I'm not sure if this error message is referring to a reinstall of the entire game or just BDtS. That may be a question for EA, but I don't see why it would require you to reinstall the entire game (and if you do try to do that, remember to backup your gamesaves!). Also, it shouldn't matter where the BDtS exe file is located on your computer since it's just an installer (and therefore should actually install it to the correct location on your computer) - so the first thing I would wonder is if either of you did a custom install of the actual full game of ME and put the game somewhere else other than the default C>program files. If either of you have the Steam version or any other non-EA/Origin download or retail disc version, there may be some differences in where the registry files, along with their key codes are located. I know people who have gotten the Amazon digital download version have been having lots of issues too.
Hopefully you have figured it out at this point, but if not, give us some more info here so we can try and help

What should I do?
edit: never mind. I kept on trying and eventually one of the codes(3FLL43UUJTN8W8EX25J3) is working and the DLC is installed.

is there any hope that, someday, 'Bring Down The Sky' will also be available as a regular free steam DLC at the steam store page of Mass Effect 1?

i know that the devs do not read this subforum but there is no other proper place to ask this:

It's hard to say how much EA has tethered the BDtS DLC. They've certainly made a mess of it for themselves and made it very difficult to access the DLC through Origin even. Since it's free content, EA may feel compelled to keep it to themselves in order to try and control and protect it better. For now and into the unkown future, the only way to get it is through EA

I wonder why EA just doesn't make BDtS available for free (w/o registration key) through Origin; i mean... just think of all the time they waste every time one of us has to harass their customer support to refresh these bogus codes. T_T

I am also having the issue of installing BDtS. I am getting the "Mass Effect is not found. Please reinstall the game from the original source and try again."
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, and I have the Steam Version of Mass Effect 1. I actually ran Mass Effect 1, and started my last save, and I was back on the Citadel. I know it works, and everything is all set up. I saw that for the Steam Version you will need to actually run the game.
I set up to run as Administrator Mode, and set compatibility for the BDtS installer to Windows XP (Service Pack 2). I even tried entering the key in the registry for BDtS as stated earlier, but still I get the same error. I also get the same error when I run the 1.02 patch. I figure I don't need it, but interesting that the same error shows up there as well. I downloaded the version from https://help.ea.com/...-dlc-redemption. It appears the be the same version as listed in this article. The links on that page no longer work.
On another note if you get the Pinnacle Station DLC from http://masseffect.bioware.com/me1/, it says it is for Origin. Will it work for the Steam Version of Mass Effect?
Any help would be appreciated!

When I try to enter a code it says 'installation cancelled'. Does anybody else have that problem?
Tederheids - Try this: Start the BDtS exe again, and when you get to the window that asks for the BDTS key code, (instead of entering the code) open Task Manager and kill the app. The installer will then either complete installing on its own or ask for the code again but in a different winodw than before. This other key window is the actual installer's key entry rather than the key code app that popped up the first time. Tell us if that works for you.

This is what worked for me. I thought something was broken but killing that first key code app hit the spot.
