Choices do mater, A lot of the choices from the last 2 games show up as war assets and with enough assets Shep can live depending on the ending. Also with enough assets the light beams dont toast earth.

Source? It'd be great if this was true.

As far as i'm aware. A single main (possibly biggest) fixture of the series ends up the same regardless of what you do.

Beyond that, there's still choice in how some things are handled, the end result remains the same though. Bugs go bye-bye.

This. For the full ending, there's roughly about 10% that you're actually able to control. For the overarching structure, though, there's 90% that'll be the exact same.

Now, that 10% does have more weight that people give it credit for; however, with the way the game ends, we see none of the 10% come to fruition. Aside from the implication of imbreeding with the grandfather telling the child about "the Shepard."

I've come to expect poor dialogue and a lack of closure from Bioware at this point.

If, in my post, I came across as praising Bioware or attempting to defend them, let me state this:
The writing is ****.
It's horrible, it's lazy, and it's a rather lame excuse for telling us that our choices matter when, in fact, they're barely recognized at all.

If it weren't for the fact that I'm splitting the cost of the game six ways with friends (we're buying one copy, as opposed to all buying copies), I would not get the game. After paying $120+DLC costs+tax for the previous two installments, I expected a much better story than what I'm seeing.

I believe the ultimate thing that is upsetting people about these endings is the complete lack of control over the fate of the characters.

It was a moronic move on Bioware's part to make that a set fixture for the end, to take the very center of the game series and shaft it in such a royal way, disallowing a player the right to affect the outcome, is just about the stupidest thing you can do for an RPG.

Especially considering Mass Effect was marketed as a game about choice. If it was marketed as a pure scifi game I'd care much less about this ending crap ending.
