Is a EA & Bioware selling off the Mass Effect franchise ?
It's a scary explanation (or fear) for the type of closure the Mass Effect 3 is delivering. The logic behind it is the way the endings all seem to be the same. Grim, no relays, no Citadel, no AI (not counting the grey goo ending). Heck in one ending I saw on youtube, the surface of the earth glassed before the relay's did there thing.
It's a clean slate obviously for something else ... but why would Bioware need to do that ? The ME universe Bioware invested in is story rich full creatures, places & plot devices. My best guess (from a business stand point), would be to sell it off to another company or developer (say within EA). There would be no strings attached for the new developer or studio. The pitch line would be "Story is all tied up - do what you want, here is a sales figures on the franchise, our DLC profits, it's fresh clay with benefits".
Why would they do that ? Maybe there some contractual problem with running Star Wars the Old Rebubic & another MMO (besides the resources it would take to start up another MMO). Maybe Bioware is sick of ME ? Maybe EA/Bioware has agreements in the pipe that would allow the franchise to be broken up into other game genres (facebook games, free to play, etc...) and the current canon & universe doesn't align with those goals & profits ...
What do you guys think ?
Sound finacial plan for the future ?
Or did Bioware just sh*t in my cearal ?
