it does help to point away from cover but this is time comsuming.
also trying to duck or change weapons when recieving hits stops the action more then it did before; this is annoying but sensiable

"Dear God, please let me run away from the Geth Prime without going fetal behind some wall giving the Geth a great head shot."
"Dear God, please let me get under cover without rolling or running."
"Dear God, please let me revive this ally without trouble."

The only attention this type of thread for MP has gotten has been being deleted without comment from the mods. The last one I saw involved editing the coalesced.bin, but was something like 5 lines of code. I'm honestly shocked Bioware hasn't made more of an effort to address this by now : / Your players wouldn't have to hack the game to fix your problems if you'd fix them yourself.
You do realize just how difficult it is to change the control scheme this drastically after a game release?
Bioware has said before that the Origin patching system does not allow them to change very much. Something major like breaking the space bar up would probably take some sort of DLC to impart to ME3.

No just exactly 7 lines of code added, not even removing the button is neccesary!

I think you're the one who doesn't realize the difficulty. It's easily doable right now, by players, with a few quick tweaks in the coalesced. On PC of course, I don't know anything about Xbox or PS3. The problem is that messing with the coalesced in MP could get you suspended or banned, so you're running a pretty significant risk by doing it. What we need (PC players anyway) is BioWare to tell us we can make that change.

Frankly, it's not the controls that need to be changed, it's the context system.
Say, your shields get taken down by the geth Pyro in the room, the priority on the "context sensitive" button should be the sprint function, not the "take cover WITHOUT the cover between you and the thing trying to kill you function."
If an ally was just downed near cover/computer console/random device, the revive function should be priority.
All of these functions on one button would work perfectly fine if there were a greatly improved context system.

Spacebar-for-everything:
Oh hello, downed teammate. Let me sit by our side and tell you a story. What? You bled to death? How rude! I think I will stick around for a bit and let those nosy Cerberus kids riddle me with questions made of metal.
Run-to-cover:
I have to say it's pretty cool to storm forward and slam directly into cover. In about 20% of the cases. In all the other cases it causes rage (and more often than not death) because my damn 10% health character decides that supporting the clearly unsteady wall with his back or making a dodge for the cover on the side is the right thing to do.
Would be nice if some customizations were added (plus textchat for MP, but that's another/off topic)
