So, next time you go to Omega, observe the main entrance to the Afterlife club, and the line of people trying to get on. At the front of the line is the annoyed human saying "Ugh, come on, let me in!" amongst other things. Whenever you go to Omega, he will still be there. The exact same person, in the exact same spot, saying the exact same damn things. And this never changes, no matter what.
Here's why: When Omega was still nothing but a mineral-rich asteroid, this man was simply stuck in the core of the asteroid with just enough space to stand there in the middle of it, his arms crossed saying "Ugh, come on, let me in! Aria's expecting me! Can you even see me over here? You've let in ten people while I've been standing here!".
So, the species we know in Mass Effect found the asteroid. They begin mining it, and soon it became a city. The entire city was built around this man, who they tried to contact, but failed, as he would never responf clearly. Finally, they decided to ignore him like keepers at the Citadel.
Fast forward to 2185. The Afterlife club has been built in front of the man, and he's blocking the line, standing in front of the elcor bouncer. The bouncer is not informed of the man's state, so he thinks the man is trying to get into the club, and will be forever annoyed by this man who refuses to shut up.
When the Reapers come, they will succeed in wiping out all species in the galaxy. Omega will be yet another casualty. Except for this man, of course, who will be standing there in vaccumm, with the ruins of the asteroid floating around him. He will continue to stand there and speak, completely unharmed and unscathed. Before they exit the galaxy again, they will see this man and attempt to kill him. They will fire every weapon they have at him, but he will seem to absorb it uncaringly, the man otherwise ignoring the Reapers.
Determined, the Reapers will attempt to kill the man by forcefully ramming their ships into him, but as soon as the ships hit him, they split in half on contact.
Finally, after losing over a dozen to him, the Reapers decide to forget about him and go back into dark space.
Fast forward about 75,000 years. The man is still there, and his only friends are about 20 or so pieces of free-floating dust near him. Another group of intelligent species have risen to galactic dominance. When they are exploring Sahrabarik, they will happen to see the man standing there in vaccum, and will attemt to contact him. They send a small shuttle out to him. He simply says "Ugh, come on, let me in!". They open the airlocks for him, but he does not move and says "You've let in ten people while I've been standing here!", when 10 of his favorite dust particles float into the airlock. They attempt to force him into the airlock by flying that side of the shuttle into him, but when they do, the shuttle faces the same fate as the Reaper ships.
The civilization establishes a research base near the man in an attempt to find out who he is and where he came from, while at the same time the Reapers prepare to wipe them out and continue the cycle.
As the Reapers enter the Milky Way. Sahrabarik happens to be one of their first targets. They fire a shot at the research base, but it hits the man and once again he seems to absorb it. But this time it doesn't go away. It grows inside him. The man's eyes and ears, mouth and nostrils grow with a unholy light, and he suddenly vomits up the shot, which is now a giant plasma bolt, a plasma bolt the sise of Pluto, with extended arms holding nuclear bombs, and clones of Viktor Reznov riding on top of the bombs wearing cowboy hats. Sitting on top of the bolt itself are Jesus and Commander Shepard, passionately making out.
The bolt travels towards the Citadel at speeds faster than ships going through mass relays. It collides with the Citadel, resulting in a thermonuclear explosion of so much awesomeness it engulfs the entire Serpent Cluster.
Flying out of the explosion are ducentillions upon ducentillions of more clones of Viktor Reznov, each one naked with their junk flopping proudly about. They go flying in every direction, flying through cores of planets and stars, entire systems dying by the dick of Reznov. The clones ricochet throughout the galaxy, destroying almost all of it.
The Reapers, all other life except for the man at Omega and Reznov, and 99.9999999% of all systems in the Milky Way are destroyed. With this, the clones disappear, and Vikor Reznov himself materializes in front of the man.
"It's okay, you are free now." Reznov says to the man. The man simply responds with "Aria's expecting me!". Reznov, puzzled, tells the man, "Seriously, you can leave now. Your job here is done." The man responds with "Can you even see me over here?".
To get the man's attention, Reznov pokes him in the chest. As soon as his finger touches the man, the universe collapses in on itself and reforms again with the Big Bang, and as soon as the asteroid currently known as Omega forms, Reznov creates the man and places him inside the asteroid and species will begin to rise and fall to the Reapers. All of the aformentioned events will eventually happen again, and once again the universe will collapse and reform. This cycle has already repeated itself 18 times. This is the true extinction cycle. The Reapers are pawns just as much as we are.
