I purchased DA Awakening thru Origin. Now when I try to play DA Origin, my character cannot kill any of the "bad guys" says all my hits keep missing.

and if I level up, the stats don't accept. shows no upgrades, can't pick any new abilites, spells etc.. Tried to start a new game, but when I choose a new character other than the default, the character disappears and only allows the default human warrior..

tried to get help thru origin, but they say it is a game play issue and to check the forums.. they would not help me.. just got Awakening today.. Everything was working great until I downloaded Awakening..

I realize this isn't a great explaination, but very hard to describe.
I have a MSI laptop, 
Nvidia GTX 570M /1.5 GB GDDR5
16 GB Ram
Intel Core i7-2670QM

sorry, I will explain better.. on the character creation screen, after I have picked female, human, and go to pick my class, the portrait of the character on the left side of the screen disappears. then when I click to go to next, I cannot customize anything.. no big deal, but then when I go to assign the stats, even though it states that I have used stats, the actual numbers don't change. So I continue.. I cannot choose any of my own abilities.. the only thing I can do is quick play, which gives me a human, male, warrior..

In the game that is in progress. nothing gets killed, so I cannot move on to the next area until the Dark Spawn in that area are killed..
