Tons of times I finished off a flaming Cerberus off with Energy Drain, and he never explodes. Squadmate's skills never seem to do it either. But if I kill a flaming Geth with energy drain, he blows up every time.


That's strange. I can say for certain, that flaming Cerberus troops will cause a fire explosion, if killed by Overload. I do it quite often with Human Engineers (Incinerate --> Overload combo).
The only issue I can think of, is that your flaming targets are not actually killed by Energy Drain, but die of "damage over time" effect that's caused by fire based powers. Next time you play, check wich power killed your target.

Yes, engineers can set up Tech Bursts [overload + incinerate] as well as Fire Explosions [incinerate + overload to kill] by themselves if their cooldown is fast enough.



What I would like to know is the exact damage or % damage each combo does if both ranks are 6: This is important to me because I want to know if it's more efficient spamming incinerate against banshees or constantly tech-bursting them with overload+incinerate. Does anyone know these numbers?


If anyone does know these numbers, and for biotic/cryo/fire explosions, please, do let the OP know so she/he/it can update the infomation

I've having tons of trouble with executing the fire explosion combo. Biotic explosions and tech bursts are simple enough since they detonate everytime you combo properly. The cyro explosion also seems to be happening constantly, I suppose since by the time somethings frozen it's an easy kill for an incinerate. But I can't seem to get an efficient combo to do the fire explosions on a consistent basis. Has anyone been able to execute them regularly?

Edit: Actually just went and did some testing in bronze and it was quite simple to execute.  Has anyone found a consistent way to detonate fire combos on Gold?

Does the tech armor power damage bonus affect biotic or other combos? Same for alliance training, does that give extra damage for the combos, or just the power itself?

Edit : Nevermind. Looks like it's been answered (Only the power itself, not the combo) so yeah.

wow what a great page to stumble upon. I took the tips from this and started implementing them and isntantly noticed a difference like having warp and throw both upgraded with detonation combos, getting fire combos to go off etc. love it

Does Expose on Warp's Rank 5 increase the damage taken from Biotic Detonations? I would guess no, and hence usually pick the damage choice instead.

It doesn't but it increase the damage source from everything else. When your focusing targets that extra damage adds up.

Remember biotic detonation solely depend on the rank of the power. There was a dev that confirmed this somewhere on the forums.

is disruptor ammo very rare? I was just wondering, if someone were to spray disruptor ammo with a revevant, another guy sprays incendiary ammo... there would be tech explosions everywhere!

No. Tech explosions have to be set off by an ability no an ammo type. They can however be initiated with disruptor ammo

i probably dont use these combos effectively, I should memorize these combos for when playing gold, it would probably kill enemies alot faster

No, I imagine it would require using a heavy pistol or sniper rifle to drop health during the cooldown wait. IMO it's just way simpler to mash biotic combos. For this reason I think fire explosion needs to be buffed and/or biotic combos nerfed.

Grenades are the best solution: grenades deal massive tech damage and so will trigger tech explosions. I'm curious to see how the Turian's proximity mine matches up, as its essentially a free grenade, but I've never tried it.

I'd say buff the fire explosion. Say if the explosion damage would kill the target then it does a full boom but only hits 3 foes instead of the max 4.

So with fire setup:

If Power Damage > Health, Explode hit 4 max
... Else

If Power Damage + Explosion Damgae > Health, Explode 1/2 power hit 2 max

...Else
No  Explosion


This may not be doable but would give a buff to it. Do it right and you get a full blast, if you didnt have quite enough from the detonating power you still kill the primary target and get a little spill over. Weaker then a Biotic if you didn't kill, stronger if you did.

What affect do different LEVELS of ammo types have when setting up combo's? e.g. Will a level 3 incendiary ammo result in a better combo than a level 1 incendiary ammo?

(Side question, does anyone have any info or links about the various ammos and the different effects? A quick google/forum search not revealed much :S) (I don't know why this didn't occur to me earlier but... does the ammo level imply skill level e.g. level 3 ammo imply level 3 combo detonation (+ what ever detonated it)..)

Please include this in OP as well. You can confirm this in your game as well. Chain overload will remove warp effect from a warped target. Next throw that hits the warped target (which was recently hit by chain overload) will not detonate biotic explosion. Cryo Blast/Incinerate doesn't hinder biotic explosions this way. Throw that hits a warped target which was hit by cryo/incinerate will detonate...

Quick Question in general about combo limitations in single player

- Are chain combos possible e.g. stasis => reave => warp => throw? It seems not, but I am not 100% sure about that.
- Can a combo trigger more than one effect, e.g. target is incinerated and dies of a warp/throw combo: Does this trigger the fire explosion, too?
- Does a combo from overload only trigger while the target is stunned?

1: It can be done but not on single target. e.g You stasis a group of soldiers with stasis bubble. After cooldown you warp one of them. If specced correctly that guy would die after warp triggers the biotic explosion. That biotic explosion will also effect nearby targets with warp effect. You pick another guy that was hit by previous explosion and put throw on it. If throw hits it will trigger another biotic explosion. Since throw can't set up but only detonate/trigger biotic explosion that will be the last of the chain.

2: yes noticed it in last game. Was using incendiary ammo on M8 Avenger X on my Asari Adept. Putting up few rounds in a soldier or unshielded enemy then finishing them off with throw. It will trigger fire explosion most of the time.

I warped a centurian. Kept him busy and drained shields with avenger while waiting for throw to become available. Centurian was on fire before i cast a throw on it. I heard two sounds one of biotic explosion and other of fire explosion when that centurian was killed. Do note that in order to trigger fire explosion/cryo explosions. Targets must be on fire/frozen and have low HP.

Don't know about the third one. Hopefully someone else will answer it.

Recharge may not be fast enough. I think Overload bursts can only be triggered while the target is spasming. That's your window.
