 My girlfriend got a new laptop and installed the game on it through Steam and also left it on her desktop. But when she logged onto her desktop to play later all of her charachters were gone and her DLC said it needed to be downloaded. 

Any ideas as to why this would have happened?

Also she had a couple of (cosmetic) mods that she deleted a while ago, I doubt this would have done anything since it worked fine after that but I thought I would throw that in.
