 Where would one buy this? Towards the end of the game and I want to upgrade my engines, but I have no idea where I buy this on the Citiadal.

I've bought a thermal pipe at the Elkoss Combines kiosk on the commons in the 'bank' near Barla Von. Upon returning to the ship, Adams said thanks and they were installing it now. My journal entry still says I need to find it though. *shrug*

When did the quest open for you because I have yet to find it.

At some point Traynor tells you that Adams wants to speak with you.

If you talk to him again after he installs it, it will clear and be completed.

I'm having a similar problem. They've installed it and tell me to talk to Adams but he isn't in the engineering deck. He's in the crew quarters chatting with Dr Chakwas. I go to talk to him and he just says hi and that's it. Not end of side quest....

Run another Priority mission and he'll head back to Engineering.

My memory might be off, but when I bought a thermal pipe it was NOT called a GX12. But when I talked to Adams again the quest was complete.

You can buy it through the Spectre Requisitions terminal too.

It's actually called "E-Gel Thermal Conduit", not "GX12 Thermal Pipe" as the mission name suggests.
