I never had a problem with Alistair. Keeping in mind that he is sterotypical white knight and base your decisions on that isn't too hard to figure out his responses. Then again I play with a fairly good/merciful viewpiont. Tho the few times I did just kill someone outright he didn't have an issue with, which considering the two in question, he might have said something if I *had* let them live.
Consider Alistair the "angel*" on one shoulder, Morrigan the "devil**" on the other. With the others ranged on a greyscale to some degree between them.
*"angel" stereotyping for merciful, self sacrificing, honourable and pursuit of justice.
*"devil" stereotyping as brutally practical, pursuit of personal power over welfare of others, ends justify the means mentality ect...
I second all this. My views are the same as Inakhia.
I think Alistair is a wellmade character; after all every rpg needs its shiny goodygoody companion just as it needs its evil treacherous counterpart. So, kudos to Bioware for actually filling up the role of the shiny goodygoody companion with someone who is actually a funny guy, who has a sense of humour and is also made fun of by pretty much all of the other companions. Also, I don't find Alistair to be that whiny; he's just childish and kind of simpleminded, but he at last aknowledges that, himself. And don't forget that there's always the option for hilarious sarcastic answers, if he really is pissing you off.
....As a romance option, however, he totally fails. Meh. :/
