Mine started back with Baldur's Gate (1998). I remember I tried it out at a friends house, and fell in love immediately. The immersion, the graphics, the storytelling. It was like playing your own fantasy/adventure book. It was pure extacy.

Never bought the expansion pack though. So I have never played it, and I actually missed the release of BGII. I did not follow games on the net back then.

I bought BGII at random. I was in a computer store and saw it on the shelf, and I thought... what the hell? BGII? Bought it, played it, fell in love again, a few months later than everyone else :)
Did get a chance to try the expansion pack for it a couple of years later, but it felt old at the time I played it. So I didn't gave it much of chance back then. Maybe I will give it ago again in the future.

A couple of years later I got to play Neverwinter Nights at a LAN party. We played co-op, and I guess I found it pretty fun at the time, but I never bought it. It didn't wow me like the past games, and I kinda disliked the 3D-engine. The  storyline did not interest me. It didn't feel as "epic" as the BG games. So I have never finished NWN or it's expansions, and I don't think I ever will.

Then came Mass Effect. A friend showed me some youtube clips from it, and it looked damn impressive. I'm a fantasy/sci-fi nerd so I was in heaven when I read and saw interviews with the two docs, explaining the dialouge, the action and so on. It looked amazing. It was the sole reason I bought an Xbox. Then it came with the mail, played it, and it was a beauty of a game. I rememeber when I finished it, I immediately started a second playthrough :)

Dragon Age Origins. I heard about it, and saw some clips from it on E3. I remember reading it was the spiritual successor to the BG games. I didn't really believe it at the time, but I bought it still. Not on the release date though, it took a couple of months. Anyway, loved it. The story, the characters. It was grand adventure.

For some reason the Mass Effect 2 hype never got to me. I didn't follow the forums that much, and the trailers didn't look that impressive for some reasons. I bought it though, 2 months or something after release. I liked it, but it didn't really hit home like the first game. Still good though.

Then I found Kotor. For some unknown reason I have missed that game completly. Played it, and it was a great experiece. It was interesting as well. To see how much stuff BioWare used from Kotor in the Mass Effect games. The engine felt a bit old though, but the story and gameplay made up for it.

And here we are. Mass Effect 3. The hype has gotten to me this time on my old age hehe. The game looks good and all, but there is a nagging feeling that ME3 might be bad. I really hope it's not though, because I want to finish my Shepard story.

How it will end? I do not know. I love RPGs, but it feels like BioWare has downplayed the RPG part in the last couple of games they have released. ME3 might be the last, because I'm not that intrested in the RTS game they have in the making, or Dragon Age III. I guess we will have to see.

So, how is your story? Love to read it :)

Tbh I only read your last paragraph because somehow when I read the topic title I thought ah well a badly disguised whine thread. And see, I was right. Long time fan disappointed, preorder cancelled, etc. etc.

What? It's not a whine at all, and I have not stated anywhere that I'm going to cancel my pre-order. I have it reserved on thursday, and I'm going to buy it. Would be better if you read the whole part instead of calling me a whiner. This was supposed to be a light-hearted thread to pass the time.

About the last part in my text. It's only about a concern I have, and from what I have read about BioWare's future releases and projects, they really don't interest me that much.

Started with Baldur's Gate, then I played BG2. I wasn't particulary kiddy about the games, as I wanted to be in charge of one character like I am on PnP games, because I don't like real time strategy games that much. But good games still, even when they were RTS/RPG hybrids to me. It felt too much like being a invisible man on the cloud dictating 6 people's actions. Didn't felt "connected" to the character I was suposed to play because of that.

Then I played some KOTOR, even when I was pretty much in charge with character combat again, I felt combat was less annoying, thanks to having only a party of 3. I loved the story and the dialogue, not to mention the fact that I could RP my character pretty well in this game and choices actualy mattered.

Then I moved on to Mass Effect 1, played it and loved it. It was something really awesome RPG game I always wanted. Where I could basicaly get into the shoes of a character and decide how they are going to act in certain sittulations. This is what RPG's are about for me, roleplaying. Also, I like how it wasn't RTS anymore and I just gave my squads commands and they would carry them out while I am in direct control of my character. That was a smart move. But again, combat could have been bit better.

Then DA:Origins. I didn't care for combat in this one, mostly thanks to playing on console and I couldn't order the guys to move to certain spot. So I just switched to "easy" and played trough it. I did enjoy this game very much too, even when combat wasn't that great.

Then came ME2. Now this game was pretty awesome, even when the main story felt like "sidestory" for the Reaper threat. I loved the dialogue and characters. Combat was pretty good at this game and I could risk lifting the difficulty to the max, because I was in control and I could actualy do what I was going to do. Also RPG elements were solid in this one too, so it was win/win! One of my favourite things in this game was the customization thou, creating your own armor is awesome.

DA2 came out then. I did feel that the game was bit rushed, the levels were similar and there wasn't a lot of detail on the game. And combat still didn't feel good enough and you could control your companions again, which took away from immersion from me (good thing you had "move here" command this time, so I didn't have to control them). But still, I actualy enjoyed the writing, dialogue and story, the plot wasn't bad imo. Even the first DLC was pretty good.

And here we are now... I actualy started playing IceWind Dale, seems like Baldur's gate, with more combat. Still a ok game.

Never tried DA2 except for the demo. Didn't impress me, but I love a good story..
Might have to see if I can find DA2 cheap somewhere :)

My history with Bioware is a very short one. I bought a SW:KotOR on steam christmas holliday sale in 2010 for 2.5 € based on recomendation from some of my steam friends. I totally fell in love with that game and decided that i want more space RPG goodness so i bought ME1 in summer sale and ME2 during the latest steam christmass sale. ME3 is first BioWare game that i will buy for full price on release day.

I can safely say that if it were not for steam sales i would not play any BioWare game ever.

Started with Mass Effect 1.

Will end with Mass Effect 3... unless Bioware creates more sci-fi games, that are not RTS or MMO.

I also started with Baldur's Gate I & II. I then pursued other interests and when I was ready to get back in RPGs, I couldn't find one I liked that resembled BG. Then I heard about DAO and I was hooked again. Still playing it actually :)

I'd switched over to a PS3 by now and heard about ME2 coming out on the PS3 so I tried it and loved it. I loved it so much I wanted to try out the original ME and after watching the story on YT, I bought myself and new PC and played ME.

Now, I'm counting down the hours until ME3, although I really should be in bed resting up because tomorrow is going to be a full day :)

ETA: I guess it's already technically "tomorrow" so today will be a full day

Started with Mass Effect 2 and was hooked, went back to Mass Effect 1 and again was hooked.

Then to Dragon Age Origins and Awakenings which took me a while to get into but I did end up liking it, then on to Dragon Age 2 which while not as good as DA:O I still liked it and now onto Mass Effect 3, which I'm sure I'll like just as much as the first two.

Started with KOTOR retroactively went to Baldurs Gate, MDK/Shattered steel etc.

Rented DA2,avoided TORTANIC like the plague, will rent ME3.

DA2 put Bioware on the "approach with caution" list and ME3 has done nothing to take them off it.

Mine started with Knights of the old republic, went to Jade Empire, then to Mass Effect (please note that I have the second as well, and will have the third :P), then to Dragon Age (and the second one as well...)....

Yeah, get it when it's cheap. Less dissapointment if you do not enjoy it. :)

It's not the "Gotta save the world" plot, but I actualy enjoyed it.

Started with BG II, then bought BG I afterwards.
After that: NWN + all the expansions (mainly because of the PW servers); KotOR, KotOR II, NWN 2 (at a discount); ME 1 (Steam Deal); ME2 (Steam Pre-Order); DA:O (Steam Pre-order), DA: O - Awakening (Steam Daily Deal), DA II and now ME3 (Regular edition pre-order)

I'm not playing TOR, because I'm not a fan of MMO's.

started with BG, it will end when I deem Bioware's game are no longer fun or enjoyable or their DRM is too restrictive and goes against my beliefs, whichever comes first

Started with DA:O

Then got ME1+ME2 at the same time. I much prefer the squad style of ME vs. the party style of DA.

Played through DA2 once. Gameplay wise, I like it better than DA:O, but everything else about it was worse than DA:O (re-used environments, unfulfilling story).

Got up to Ilum on a republic character and an empire character in TOR a few weeks ago. It was OK, not great. I feel like I would have enjoyed a non-mmo kotor game more.

Getting ME3 tomorrow. Hype meter is off the charts for it.

When will it end? Cannot say at the present time.

Started with Jade Empire, love the story and characters but thought gameplay was just okay. Then KotOR. I had strong mixed feeling about it. I think its combat is terrible but this game does have extensive role playing aspects.

Then I searched some old games from bioware. Neverwinter Nights is a really bad game for me and I think I will never beat it. Baldur's Gate 1 is good but a little pointless plot-wise and kinda too hard at the beginning. Baldur's Gate 2 with ToB is a blast and wish I played this game earlier. I was amazed how they can come up with such a terrific game with so many diverse characters, so many back stories and a major story line just suck you in from the beginning. Dragon Age Origins is another milestone rpg from bioware that give me feelings similar to what I got from Baldur's Gate 2 but shame it did not get a proper sequel.

I got into Mass Effect a bit late. Played mass effect 1 and 2 while I need a break from DAO. Mass effect gives me the same feeling as Jade Empire. I liked the story and characters but pity the gameplay is clearly not designed for me. Mass Effect 2 is much better, at least I can play it properly. as mass effect 3, I liked what I have seen in the demo, and still looking forward to play it tomorrow.

Started with MDK2 lol. Then KOTOR and Jade Empire on Xbox. I played Baldgur's Gate after these, and started BG2 but it just couldn't hold my attention. I know, that's my great gaming shame. I've played everything they've released on the current gen (on PC).

Drats, forgot Jade Empire, that game was fun, but maybe little too simple for my tastes.

Started with Baldur's Gate 2 and played it for a while (I was like 10).

Then went onto Baldur's Gate 1. But that was impossible.

Then I played KoTOR, managed to finish that. It was great.

Then moved onto Neverwinter Nights. Had hours of fun making my own modules there.

Went back to BG2 and managed to finish it finally, and did half of Throne of Bhaal.

Had a big break from Bioware games until Dragon Age: Origins which got me back into RPG games. Moved onto ME1 and 2 from that. I don't like the look and what I've heard of DA2 at all so I'm not wasting my money on that.

I'm ready for ME3 on Friday. After that, I don't know. If Bioware draws more from DA:O for DA3 I will purchase it, otherwise, ME3 might be my last.

I'm going to sound like a huge fanboy, but whatever.

I first played Knights of the Old Republic II from Obsidian. I was amazed. It was my first RPG, and I just loved it. I poured 50 hours into my first game. Of course, the backstory baffled me - so I went back and played the first.

Best decision ever (besides play KotOR II in the first place!).

I was amazed by the game, the story, everything. The backstory clicked, it all made sense. I would play those games over and over again throughout my late childhood.

In 2007, I was at the local Gamestop, and the guy was like, "Hey, if you like KotOR, you should buy Mass Effect! It's like Gears of War meets KotOR" I was cautious, but I said what the hell, sounds like fun. I will never forget Noveria, the Citadel, Eden Prime, Feros... the ending makes me happy to this day. When I realized killing the Council as a Paragon was different from killing them as a Renegade, I was hooked. You know I bought Pinnacle Station and Bring Down the Sky!

SW:TOR was announced in 2008 - finally! And the next year, I bought Dragon Age: Origins. The sheer scope of the game astounded me. There was so much to do and explore - the amount of choice was mind boggling. I would go on to get the expansions and DLC as well.

Then, I got Mass Effect 2. One of the best gaming and story experiences of my life. The number of different environments and locations and the feeling of seeing all of these different sides of the Mass Effect universe made it for me. The ending remains something that I replay just to get that same adrenaline rush and anxiety that I had the first time I played. Getting out alive still is such a great feeling.

I bought SW:TOR as well, and love it. I cannot express how much I do. It just feels great. I love playing with my friends, and the amount of content is massive. The different storylines just make it such a great experience. It just amazes me to play a BioWare game in an online setting, and in my favorite franchise.

I even bought Dragon Age II a week ago (was short on money, so I had to wait... it also gave time to finish a 'perfect' DA import!). A quarter of the way through, so I can't say much!

Excited for ME3.

Started with Kotor, I think at 2003? Just because I'm not a PC gamer. But I just bought Never Winter Nights and gonna try it after ME3 :) Then went for the Jade Empire (first game I bought because it was made by BioWare, Kotor was 'cause of Star Wars). Read about upcoming Mass Effect (first CE I've ever bought) was super exited, but when I started playing I didn't like it... Until I first saw the Citadel and fell in love with a game. Dragon Age wasn't my cup of tea at first but now I have played trough it 11 times :D

ME2 came along, just playing it right now, 14th time. Liked DA2 and waiting for DA3. Wait for ME3 is almost over but I have mixed feelings about it because of the spoilers.

When will it stop? Well, If they start to just make shooters, RTS or MMO's that's it for me. Not a fan of any of those genres. Sorry for the grammar errors, english isn't my native tongue and I can hardly think straight even in finnish 'cause I have hell of a hangover xD

Started with Mass Effect*. It will end when I do not like any games they make. So probably never.

I bought these BioWare games:
Mass Effect
Dragon Age: Origins
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age 2
Mass Effect 3 (did not play this one yet though...just a few more days)

With the exception of Dragon Age 2 (which blows), I loved them all.

I remember when Baldur's Gate came out, but I didn't buy it then, I think I watched a friend play it. But for some reason I bought Baldur's Gate 2 and got really hooked, played the expansion Throne of Bhaal. I loved the story and the attempt to stick to some DnD rules. I then got a cheap copy of Baldur's Gate and played it. It felt a little more crude than BG2, but that was to be expected. Off and on I played Baldurs Gate 2 and for a while there was a pretty robust mod community that helped keep things fresh.

Then I think I bought Neverwinter Nights and finished the main campaign in like, no time, and I was pretty disappointed.

I never played Knights of the Old Republic or Jade Empire. Not sure why, maybe I just didn't hear of 'em or whatever. Not big on Star Wars stuff that's not, you know, the original three movies.

Then there was a big push for the Mass Effect title and I was thinking - Bioware in space? Really? I didn't really buy into the hype. I remember my nephew got it and I kept asking him how he liked it. Couple months after he got it I went and bought a copy and got instantly hooked. It was the Reapers, it was the huge massive threat behind the obvious Saren that hooked me. I loved the idea of this giant galactic mouse trap and here comes humanity stumbling right into it with the rest of the races.

I didn't know about a sequel, so I didn't follow ME2. There was a lot of stuff going on, so I got ME2 like a year after it came out and again I was hooked. It was different from ME1, but it had a Seven Samurai vibe going for it and it still tied into the Reapers and I was also really interested in the idea of decisions I made in ME1 migrated over to ME2.

So now here comes ME3 and I'm totally into the story and characters and I wanna see how it all pans out. Can't wait until I get my grubby hands on it tomorrow night.

*Forgot to add, I didn't hear about Dragon Age either, until I started reading this forum. I bought DA Origins and thought it was pretty good so I bought DA2 and again I thought it was pretty good as well. Both have their strengths and weaknesses and both have interesting stories.
