I know people who've met spouses in an online medium. Not universally happily from that point.

I think that, online or off, the success of a relationship depends on:

1. Honest communication. Deceit, whether with good intentions or bad ones, erodes trust between two people, and you shouldn't love somebody you can't also trust. (Or assume that you can change them.)

2. Similar expectations about what kind of a relationship it is, and how committed and (quite often) how exclusive it will be. If you're looking for a love that will last the ages and he/she is looking for a quick roll in the hay, it's not gonna work no matter how hard either of you tries.

A lot of people fault online romance for breeding dishonesty, but that's not entirely fair. People will lie to get their way in the world o' flesh, as well, and much, much more than many would admit.

Gather round, My Brethren. I shall speak of the tale of the time Thanatos met Bios and the inseparable love they now share. Once upon a time, in the Year of Strife, in a land far away, there was only Chronos. Now, Chronos was a wise being who lived in harmony with the Digital Realms of Internet, but he knew that something was missing, for there were no Digital beings who believed that love could exist within the Digital Realms, and that the Mundus was the proper place for courtship. So He called forth his faithful daughter Bios, and Said to her: "though the works of man and Digital be great indeed, I fear that something must change for the Realms to be truly free".

Bios replied: "What would you change, Father? For Man has brought much glory to the Realms, and Knowledge flows freely like a swift-running current in the Internet." Chronos answered: "I would search for a worthy champion, one who is mighty and wise. I would choose he who might teach the world the meaning of Love".

It is a waste of time. It'll more likely leave you on ice as these "romances" don't last long. Iknow a few people here who got hooked on this and later failed miserably.

So, I'm curious: Is the data provided by a service regarding the compatibility of an online relationship accurate in your opinion?

Surely it's as accurate as the information that the two people being matched up voluntarily provided about themselves in order to attract a mate.

Which is to say, anywhere from complete honesty to total out-and-out lies.

Sometimes my friends and I go through Match.com making fun of people's pages. Is that wrong?

it depends on whether you are being brutally honest with those people. if you aren't, then shame on you, My Lord, for terrorizing those helpless romantics.Image IPB

Some need a taste of terror to shake their illusions and complacency.

I think Warheadz left and KenKen is probably somewhere crying about feminists being mean to him. :o

I don't really understand the dating sites, it seems really weird to me.

I wouldn't bother with a dating site if I'm being honest. Just be friends with people on here or in RL and just wait for someone to come around. If you go searching, you're guaranteed to find some rapist murderer person. I'm a very shy and nervous person myself so I feel your pain.

I've met a few people from online dating sites. Some of them I'm still friends with, so they're great in that sense, but every single one of them has had fairly apparent psychological issues that explain why they're resorting to such measures as robot dating.

It's just a shame real people don't have clickable profiles that instantly display whether their favourite hobby is "having fun LOL".
