I have the orginal Complete ME1 and ME2 bioware folders in the default location for character/save data..

However launched the ME3 configuration utility, doesn't give the option to import saved data...

Plus ME3 is still locked until March 5th 23:00.... so how are you guys even attempting this and knowing it'll work until it's unlocked?

I tried every solution listed above still didnt solve the problem, hope Bioware can come up with an official solution

--Problem solved, not sure if it work for other people, but I replayed the suicide mission and after credit rolls, instead of back to main menu, I click on continue and make another save inside Normandy, and I can finally enjoy my Shepard in ME3

This will work as long as you follow it properly:

Where NAME = the unique name of the user you're logged in with.

Go to:

C:\\Users\\NAME\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 3\\BIOGame\\Config

and open gamersettings.ini

Copy and paste the folder address for your ME 2 save next to

[SaveGames]
Location=

So:

[SaveGames]
Location=C:\\Users\\NAME\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\

Do you have to have ME2 installed on the machine to import your character from that game?

it doesnt recognize my face from ME2 T.T help plz

You can change your face/Skills/class.

but but you dont understand i want my ME2 face not a new one:(

They did say that some people would have to create a new face after ME 2. See below:

"Will I be able to make changes to my Shepard when I import?
You
will be given the option to alter the appearance of Shepard, and you
will be able to change class (i.e. Soldier to Adept) as well.
NOTE:
Some ME2 saves will not be able to import the face-file of your Shepard.
You will need to re-create the appearance when importing the file."

Unfortunately this nor any of the other fixes mentioned before it has worked for me. I do see two but they are both for soldier characters. Not my main Vanguard character. This is very frustrating.

I too tried all fixes.

I am now reinstalling ME2 (20GB of wasted bandwidth) so try and re-open my ME2 save again, then save a fresh one aboard the Normandy.

Ive been told this fixes the issue for many.

I still have ME2 installed and can go in and play my old save with no problems and switch careers. For whatever reason though it only lets me select my soldier career in ME3 and the Vanguard career was always my "primary" playthrough character.

Did you try saving again aboard the Normandy, then erasing all older saves? (back em up first)

I'm just completely lost. I went to the "gamersettings.ini", and there was absolutely nothing that said "Savegames Location=" or anything similar. I also have no idea what this configuration utility is, or how to launch it. Anyone mind cluing me in?

Config utility is in Start -> All Programs -> Mass Effect 3 -> Configuration (Win7)
However, unlike ME2, the devs decided NOT to add an import utility for saves for their newest game.
The config utility is useless.

EA also made it impossible to access through Origin. Another example of their incompetence and inferiority.

I tried adding the save location manually in gamersettings.inibut the problem is persisting.

Ah, I see. Would you also happen to know why I don't see the relevant fields to alter in the gamersettings.ini? Is there something I need to do first?

I can see my ME2 character from the import menu. But I can't start a game with him. What am I missing here?

I'll have to try all these suggestions tomorrow. I started up my game after waiting patiently until midnight only to be crushed by my inability to import my hard earned characters... Way to go BioWare, the second time I've been severely disappointed in one of my favorite developers. The other was Id software with their disastrous pc launch of Rage.

None of these fixes worked for me. I created the directory, and put the save there. I also tried using a subdirectory (Kyle_30_Adept_200212) within the save directory and put the save file there. ME 3 can't see it. This is broken.

If i have to have ME 2 installed, support/BW should tell us and tell us soon. This should have been corrected in the readme and in the faq.

Frustrated.

Generally Bioware's support has always been slow.....

Downloaded ME2 to try and reload my save since nothing else allowed me to import character.
I try to resume, "Cannot load, missing DLC"

I download another 5GB of DLC (I'm capped at 250GB a month)

I load, I re-save.

Still doesn't work.

So now I am going to bed angry and frustrated instead of happy and content. I've been trying to import my character for one hour and a half. Bioware has landed no assistance.

This is do disappointing...

I gave up and started playing. The only thing possibly more frustrating than this are the running animations in the game.... I feel like I was just trasported back to 2001 hahaha, they are TERRIBLE! I don't know how no one missed the import feature or the running. I'm hoping these will be my only two frustrations!

I am with you on that one friend. I am about to start playing without my imported save :( So annoyed!

Really sad. I have this problem and have done everything posted. No Dice.
I wont play the game until Bio gets this fixed. Its plain stupid to launch with this as a touted feature and it doesnt even work correctly.

Bioware you guys should be ashamed.
