This worked for me!

//
To import a Mass Effect 2 save file from an old computer to the one in which Mass Effect 3 is currently installed, copy your old career folders to: <My Documents>\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\
//

I didn't edit the .ini file or anything else.
You just have to create the *\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\* folder if you dont have it.

This will work as long as you follow it properly:

Where NAME = the unique name of the user you're logged in with.

Go to:

C:UsersNAMEDocumentsBioWareMass Effect 3BIOGameConfig

and open gamersettings.ini

Copy and paste the folder address for your ME 2 save next to

[SaveGames]
Location=

So:

[SaveGames]
Location=C:UsersNAMEDocumentsBioWareMass Effect 2Save

This worked for me, only I made the edit to the Gamersettings.ini file in the Mass Effect 2 folder, not Mass Effect 3.  To be on the safe side, I set the Gamersettings.ini file in the Mass Effect 3 folder to point to it's own save folder, not ME2's.  :mellow:  Hope that makes sense.

Be sure you have a folder with this name, or similar inside the Save folder:
John_31_Engineer_260110

So, inside this: Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\John_31_Engineer_260110
you should have all of your saves.

Right now, do you see something when you select Import ME2 character on the New Menu?

 I was having the issue of seeing my character but not being able to import for me this worked.

I had put my saved games in to Mydocuments/Bioware/Masseffect3/saves

However I followed the instructions of others on here and instead of having it there i created a new directory.

inside the mydocuments/bioware make a new folder Mass effect 2 inside that make a folder called saves inside that put your saves. That worked for me and I am now playing the game with my dood.

Hopefully this helps a few out.

Gee, I don't know then. I only had one career with a lot of save games.

Well what worked for me was to make a folder called John_31_Engineer_260110 in the save, like brainwins said and

[SaveGames]
Location=C: \\Users\\your user name here\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\

and it worked and region united states

Alright, last checklist before I go to sleep.

*Delete any edits you did to the GamerSettings.ini

*Go to \\Documents\\BioWare\\
In there you should have a folder called Mass Effect 3.

* In that location (\\Documents\\BioWare\\)  Create one folder called Mass Effect 2

*Inside that one you should paste the contents of your ME2 Save folder.
So you should have something like this: \\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\John_31_Engineer_260110
And all your save files there.

*Open ME3, go to New Game, and Import ME2 character. You should see your old career there.

Hope that helps.

OMG! Brainwin's solution worked.

1. I deleted all edits I did
2. I already had a Mass Effect 2\\Save folder, but all my .pcsave were in the root.
3. So I created a folder WITHIN the Save\\ folder called John_30_Vanguard_260110
4. Moved all my .pcsav in that \\Save\\John_30_Vanguard_260110\\ folder
5. Launched ME3 and imported character

I think without the folder "John_30_Vanguard_260110" the game sees no careers.

Me as well. Is this affecting everyone that imported from ME1 to ME2?

If so, that's amazingly lame.

i see the careers but when i press import nothing happens,

Alright this is only for the people that DO see the careers in the import but for some reason it doesnt let them import the career, do this.

then make a Mass effect 2 folder inside the Bioware folder, then inside the masseffect 2 folder make a Saves folder and paste the saves there

it should look like this X:User/Documents/Bioware/Mass Effect 2/Save

i transfered my documents folder to another HDD so that seems to have been the prob

anyone interested , download the folder

http://sachinsachani...dept_170212.zip

paste it in your ME2 saves ,

also make sure ur ME3 gamersettings.ini points to your ME2 saves directory

I am a freelance Web/UI designer , need anything done lemme knw

Somehow related, where can you see the character face code? Creating appearence from scratch is a pain and mine can't be imported for some reason.

 On my part, I tried to fix this thing for 2 hours and it never worked. This game needs a fix on the importation. This fix posted here doesn't work for everyone after all.

After my import , i noticed that the game only gives you a head start with some bonus points & experiences level , you don't get your previously unlocked weapons / Armour etc . you have to pick these as you play in the game ,

I think its better to start ME3 fresh with all the choices open rather then suffer consequences of previously made choices

Why has there been no response yet? I cannot for the life of me get my save game import to work, despite trying all of the "solutions" in this thread. Things I've noticed wrong thus far:

No Save Game location variable already set in the GamerSettings.ini config file.
My old save game folder was labeled DD/MM/YY instead of the proposed MM/DD/YY.

When I go to import character, everything seems fine until I double-click/select my character, then the Time Played and Last Played variables are blank and when I hit import, it does a ding.

Edit: Every time I launch the game and exit, I can download a 40.1 MB patch. This patch re-enables the Release Date Check. Additionally, after launch it checks for DLC twice with a pause in between each check.

You are a savior, that actually worked. Don't know how I managed to miss this proposed fix. It seems as though we need to have our old Save folder in its default location. It read my completed saves just fine.
