It was good for nothing. Putting a military man in a political position is never a good idea. They aren't qualified for the job.

It would be interesting if there were consequences for choosing Anderson or Udina like it affecting your readiness meter somehow (or some other thing/obstacle); otherwise, it was kind of pointless to have an option in the first place.

It's not a bug, if Anderson was councillor, he steps down in one of the books for one reason or another, and Udina replaces him regardless.

It was for his girlfriend. >.>

A bit of hyperbole there, but you really can sum up his stepping down being caused by Kahlee. The details are fuzzy, but in the books anderson attacks cerberus (not authorized to do so) using turians to essentially demolish cerberus (which is why so many of us are confused as to why cerberus has an army now.) I can't remember the direct reason, but kahlee asked anderson to do it.

So in the face of the reaper invasion anderson throws away everything shep fought for, leaving the citadel in the hands of a politician, and destroyed (or tried apparently) the only organization that had been actively preparing for the reaper invasion.

All for some tail. Thanks anderson.

Guys, seriously. I am a big Mass Effect fan but I haven't read the books (yet). I got so much other books I have been wanting to read so there was no time for it.

There is liteterally no explanation at all in ME3. You play ME2, Anderson is councilor. You play ME3, suddenly Udina is councilor. Yes, in ME2 Anderson said he doesnt really like it, but then again, he doesnt like being Udina's Advisor either. Hates that even more, actually. You just have no idea wtf is going on.
There are other leaps of logic. A lot of them, actually. :/

Why can't it be like Mass Effect 2, where everything made at least sense? I don't even say they should have had added a way to keep Anderson a councilor, but maybe explain it at least? (I mean, maybe Anderson will later, but I posted this after I met Udina).

It's just pretty lame and not Bioware's standard.

Do they seriously not explain this in the game?

I agree it sucks. Big time. The thing you can do however is read the wiki. :(

Idk. Anderson didn't say anything in the beginning.
And I don't know if he will later.

I didn't get the whole beginning tbh. (the demo mission is the first mission if anyone wonders)

Normandy SR-2 was Shep's ship.

Suddenly ME3 starts, Normandy is an Alliance ship again. Wut?

Or to quote Hackett in ME2 Arrival: "I hope you can fill in the leap of logic between these two events" :?

There should be a codex entry, at least according to this

Starts about 3:09
Oh, and watch out for potential spoilers. I can't remember if there are any, but I'd rather cover my bases now than have someone quote me later and go "Dude! Spoiler alert!"

That's barely acceptable. Next we're going to figure out that the Rachni Queen died of the flu on Noveria and the Destiny Ascension crashed into an asteroid with the Council on board.

Yes, and the Roman Empire's standard procedure in chosing a new emperor was to have a bunch of ambitious generals duke it out in a free for all civil war. I think citadel space is better off whitout its own crisis of the third century.

If you think about it, it makes a lot of sense.Given the imminent Reaper invasion and Anderson restlessness when he was councilor. I am ok with all this, it makes sense and it doesn't nullify your choice imo, instead it is quite realistic.

The whole point of having a military man as a counciler was because he wasn't a politician, and thus could get the galaxy ready for imminent war.

But alas, no.

In one of the books (which one escapes me) Anderson resigns as the counciller.

A major choice retroactively made pointless by BioWare railroading the plot? THIS IS UNPRECEDENTED

This, pretty much. They're railroading the plot by retroactively making decisions pointless (because the outcome is the same in the next game and/or two).

You know... the rest of the universe does have their own decision making ability.   Just because you 'recommended' him initially, doesn't mean he was forced to continue to follow that decision.

Exactly. You control Shepard, not everyone else. :)

Actually, it does nullify your choice. It doesn't matter if it makes sense or not, the ending of ME1 was just nullified.

Whether or not you agree with it, you can't deny that.

It isn't goosbumps chooce your adventure. It was "cannon" for Anderson to step down and Udina to take his palce. THe books which I didn't read make that 100% true no matter what you say.
