No mineral collection at all. Instead, you scan for war assets, upgrades (I think...?) and fuel. This explains the mechanic.

Cool.  Thanks for the link.  Looks like a nice alteration and improvement.

You can pick em.
Though i must add that after the mars mission your team only consists of 2 squad mates, so you don't have much choice.

Wait, what? Why would one of your members leave...

The answer to that question likely falls into "spoiler" territory.

No spoilers here, please.

Just played an MP match and it is STILL BUGGY. I fell through the floor and got stuck on the 3rd wave.

Was your MP on a new map or did you happen upon one of the two that the Demo had?  I've never fallen through the floor but have gotten stuck on top of a wall and had an enemy go inside a wall.  Was quite hard to finish the wave with someone inside a wall.  We all surrounded the guy and moved all over the place while firing to find ANY position that would successfully damage the guy so we could end the wave.

I HAVE repeatedly entered a game with almost all of my character's powers being unavailable (a Krogan in one case with NO abilities except inferno.  No barrier, no ability to use/throw grenades, etc.  Have had that happen to other characters too.  Very difficult to survive a level with a nearly crippled character).

Are the dialogue options the same as well?

More specifically, is the fear people have of the great amount of auto-dialogue in ME3 correct? Or do you still have plenty of opportunities to pick what your Shepard is going to say?

Becomes better during the mars mission. I read that especially further into the game the choices might be fewer, but even random chat choices actually influence your story.

Correct. Just watched the IGN vid coverage, and they confirm that even further in the game there is no mineral collection. Like someone else stated, there is still some scanning, but it's toned down and you only scan for war assets.

In ME1 Ashley says that her father was so proud when she made Gunnery Chief the first thing hee did was salute.  You wuold not salute an NCO.  Gunnery Chief is probably more simmilar to a Chief Warrant Officer in the army.  They are above NCO's but below 2nd Lieutenant.  Also, much more than 2 years have elapsed since the end of ME 1.  At the start of ME2 it is stated that Sheppard had been scowering the galaxy for more geth and evidence of the Reapers.  We don't know how long that scowering took.  Ashley was likely promoted, perhaps to officer before the start of ME2.  I do not recall her rank in her brief cameo in ME2.  Sheppard was then dead for 2 years at the start of ME2.  I don't know how long in timeline the entirety of ME2 took, but it may have been over a year.  Also, if Ashley were recruited to become a SPECTRE, (I don't know if this is true, but as an example), she may have seen some fast promotions.

Not sure if this will help your issue with the lighting - whoever it was who played for a few hours and thought the Normandy was to dark. Skimmed the thread don't think anyone mentioned this yet but the main reason its changed is yes - The Alliance. Why?

Well 2 main reasons, first BioWare wanted to bring the Normandy 'feel' back to that of a 'stealthy submarine' like they had in ME1. And the second reason is more of a follow up to that, and its one reason pretty much all alliance ships are lit-that way. It has a lot to do with how are eyes work but being used to low-light conditions as a constant are ultimately a precaution thing.

Think about it this way - it can take your eyes a few seconds to adjust to day light if your currently used to low-light. It can be painful but your eyes WILL snap-adjust, even mine and I have a much higher white count so its REAL painful. But it can take up to 30 minutes!! to adjust to low light conditions (or darker).

So one way to think about it is, they have no idea if systems could go down, they may have to cut lights for whatever reason, lights could just go down. They may have a mission at night at any moment, they may have to board a station with no power. There's a multitude of situations where having your eyes adjusted to low-light from the get-go is instantly a benefit where the reverse ultimately isn't as true.

But ultimately it comes down to the 1st reason. BioWare wanted to give the Normandy a ME1/Stealth Submarine vibe again. Hopefully that lets you view it in a more favorable light so it doesn't detract from your experience when you play in full.

Confused about how the graphics can be an improvement over ME2 while at the same time the animations and textures are poor like the demo.

But there is also the fact that I am frequently confused. Just in general. For reasons that are confusing.

To address the lighting situation on the ship...If you look just to the right of the door there is a light switch... Alright, maybe not. It would be kinda hilarious though, like the bathroom in your quarters in ME2 that nobody knew about until stumbling upon it!

The texture work in the demo was better then ME2 was. Anyone who thinks over wise was probably modding ME2 on there PC's.

I don't get where this whole demo has ****ty textures thing is coming from. There is A LOT more attention to detail in ME3 demo overall. Hell Shepard gets bloodied up after that explosion - that kinda thing never happened in either of the past games. Other then a dude getting a blood nose anyways.

Seriously yall need to go do some comparisons. I literally had just finished 5 damn run throughs of ME2 when I went to the ME3 demo - it looks markedly better in detail in textures and just general room clutter.

I'm curious how many GB's the game is on the XBOX if you were to install it. I have an old, small HD Xbox, hence the question. Thanks.

Damned reapers destroyed all fuelling stations. Fuel is hard to come by, so that really limits exploration.

I was quoting the OP mentioning the textures of the demo as "poor", along with the animations which in fact blew right past "poor" to "comically abysmal". Actually...

My personal recollections of the demo have more to do with the character modeling and extreme difference between the face I modeled and the one that appears on the character. My Shepard looked in design pretty similar to the one I had in ME2. In the demo she looked like an extra from 28 Days Later.

I never actually tried to  modify the ME2 textures. I guess I was aware one could, but they were good enough to not have me hunting for overhauls. The background stuff in ME3  demo looked fine. It was the characters who sucked hard enough to cave in their skulls.

Sort of disappointing if that's going to be what we spend the game fighting as. Hobgoblins.

Just a nit.  Will enjoy the game just as I did ME1 and 2 so...

Yup. Although being a part of an elite squad that saves the world would be a viable exception to the usual rank grind, hehe. Kaidan goes from Lt. to outranking Shep, too. Major in the Alliance Navy is closer to Navy Cpt than Army Mjr.

Same here Stonbw1 - apparently its 10gigs on PC and It's often smaller then that for the 360 due to extra compression. Though with copied content that maybe on both DVD's it could end up being more but I'm hoping it's about the same.

I'm also curious when it decides to swap discs and, once it swaps, does it stay on disc 2 till the last on-rails segment like ME2 did?

-edit-
@MsKlaussen : Yeah, I can actually make a face look al ittle better in the demo but it takes a bit of getting used to. One of the difference is, supirinsgly, a difference in lighting (its not as 'stark' a contrasc) and more actual detail in all 3 'face'  texture options.

It's one of those things where less, ultimately is more I guess and it's kind of throwing people for a loop. ME2 had less overall detail, and had a heavy - heavy contrasc all over the place. Hell ME1 had that too, and ME2 was an improvement. I actually noticed more color variation on my shepards 'as white as i could make it' skin tone which kinda threw me off since I wasn't used to it. Feel like I need to use 1 skin-tone darker to get the same  effect from the last games.

Either way it's not a lack of detail, it's just rendering stuff a bit differently with more lighting.

Okay, ya I can see what you're talking about there. I usually model my characters after my own complexion and whatnot, and so since I'm pale, blue eyed and black haired, so too is my Shepard. So my whole thing about complaining that she looks like a corpse is I guess, made of fail, lol.

I see the same thing in Skyrim too actually. Before I added the post processing lighting mods, there was much less smoothness between light and dark areas, and so one second my character looks healthy and attractive and then the second she goes into shadow or night falls she looks like a meth freak. Same thing with my SecondLife character, come to think of it...

Am I the problem here?!?!

I've noticed that video games (& movies) treat promotions the same way as they would be in a corporation: you do good work, you get promoted.  I don't know anything about the armed forces, but something tells me it's not quite as simple as that!

Ash starts out a Gunnery Chief in ME, moves up to Operations Chief in ME2, and now is a Lt. Commander.  Kaidan is similarly promoted--in fact, he outranks Shep now.  I have no idea if that's even feasible IRL, so I guess this is one area where my ignorance of most things military will help me suspend disbelief!

@MsKlaussen : Haha ah, yeah I have that problem with Skyrim too. Nah we're not the problem it's just... I mean it's amazing, when you think about it, how much crap just comes down to lighting. I'm not a big chobot fan or anything but, just as another example of 'lighting, wtf' just look at SS of her, and then look at actual pictures/videos of her.

Seriously, wtf man. I get where people make the jorsey shore remarks even if it makes no sense in relation to her as a person (in looks and personality). But them screenshots just... lightings bad yo. But then that's also kinda how RL is, some lights just hate people. Pretty sure the suns out to deepfry me half the time.

-edit-
As per the whole 'rank' issue and how fast. While there's no real war time situation that caused it in ME timeline (as it happens before ME3) that kind of promotional jumps do get made but its usually in the field due to all kinds of crazy **** happening. You had guys in WW2 go from private to leading whole platoons with in a year just because they showed they had what it took to get the goddamn job done.

Those are special cases, and rare however. Ignoring Kaiden since his promotions just make more sense with out any real look at it. but with Ash, just being a spectre, if they really are, would be enough to warrent the Alliance to promote her to a rank that commands respect from Alliance personal as a whole. Commander rank would do that in general, yeah you can say being a Spectre in and of its self 'is good enough' but they would still do that for ehh... image reasons, lets say.

Also you can get people 'climbing the ladder' cause they know 'the right people' which is kinda a BS get a deskjob type stuff but meh. I bet you it'll be explained later into the game at least somewhat.

In my opening 3 hour impression on graphics (for PC), I felt that textures and animations were actually fairly decent and that lighting/art direction/effects were fantastic. Overall adding to a better graphical experience than most games over the past year (very much superior to MEII) but obviously not above games like the Battlefields' or Crysis'.

In terms of gameplay, i'm very much enjoying it. Only slight niggle is the continuation of having only two dialogue choices and alot of 'auto dialogue'.

Question: How are skill points allocated when you import?
