@ Rikbarla - if I recall correctly, did you not just crash into a collector ship? Im not 100% sure of the exact time-line between the very end of ME2 and Start of ME3, but I doubt they had THAT much time seeing as the split second you left the Collectors "Space" it flashed the Reapers coming... I suppose I could load up my ME2 and see, but anyhow, I think its dark and cables everywhere because of the fact the game takes place damn quick after ME2 ended.

EDIT - In response to one of your "Cables everywhere and dark, bad lighting" that you disliked. Also I did just google the very ending of ME2, the Reapers are already entering the galaxy when the screen flashes them very quickly. Thus I can almost guarentee there was VERY LITTLE to NO, time to repair the ship fully, as they bearly repaired it to begin with during the final battle/suicide mission.

OK now, I've gotta step in with a nothing nit here.  Ashley, in ME1 and 2, was ENLISTED.  A SSgt, I think.  In ME3 she is a Lt Commander!  There is NO WAY to jump from mid-range enlisted to mid-level officer in a mere few weeks or months.  Can't happen.  Hell's bells!  Continuity distortion field in effect!

Sorry, just had to mention that cuz I noticed (how could one not...she's hot) Ash in the demo and she was an Lt Cmdr as I seem to recall.  Staff Sgt to Lt Commander (same as a Major in the AF, Army, Marines) in a mere few months.  C'MON!!  That would take YEARS.  It takes YEARS to go from butter bar to major rank.

OK, I got that out there and can now go back and look forward to playing the game.

Uhh... Sheppard was dead for 2 years, remember? In that time, she/ or Kaiden got Spectre status.

Gunnery Chief, I think.

I assume you were replying to me?  OK, Gunny is up there in the Master Sgt range (top enlisted ranks) so the distance to LtCdr is not QUITE as far but it is still years of gulf.

Just a nit.  Will enjoy the game just as I did ME1 and 2 so...

Yup. Although being a part of an elite squad that saves the world would be a viable exception to the usual rank grind, hehe. Kaidan goes from Lt. to outranking Shep, too. Major in the Alliance Navy is closer to Navy Cpt than Army Mjr.

I've noticed that video games (& movies) treat promotions the same way as they would be in a corporation: you do good work, you get promoted.  I don't know anything about the armed forces, but something tells me it's not quite as simple as that!

Ash starts out a Gunnery Chief in ME, moves up to Operations Chief in ME2, and now is a Lt. Commander.  Kaidan is similarly promoted--in fact, he outranks Shep now.  I have no idea if that's even feasible IRL, so I guess this is one area where my ignorance of most things military will help me suspend disbelief!

Well, then since you don't know about things military and can suspend disbelief...let me fix that for you .  It cannot happen in RL.  Not now.  You would see stuff like that in WWII because attrition could be high, perhaps a LITTLE bit in Vietnam, but not since.  You may have seen that again if we'd ever actually gotten into WWIII with the Soviets, in a ground war ("seen" is kinda funny here as there wouldn't have been a lot of people around during and after to actually "see" it) the attrition would have been REALLY high so..."You!  Sgt!  You are now in command of what's left of your unit! Congratulations Major!"

There is so much a spoiler i could tell you around VS Spectres status, but i wont Image IPB

Also re imported sheps that have been altered by the save editor. They should still import. All my femsheps have Neff's hairstyle from ME2. All that happens is the hairstyle defaults back to the original style that would have been assigned by import face code. Gibbs doesnt change the original facecode just the look.

Rather not know that, if true (SPECTRE status) - spoiler.  In any case, it is STILL not done.  You do not skip the intervening ranks.  There is training, experience, and TIME requirements.  A major is going to be in his/her late 30s, early 40s.  A butter bar (2Lt) is 21 to 23-ish depending on when s/he enters officer training.  The only people who skip the early ranks are non-combatants: medical doctors, and thus their rank is fairly meaningless in the larger military (they cannot command combatant troops...ever).

Ground war??? We have dismissed that claim... The US will never involve themselves in a non-guerrilla/urban ground war ever again, unless someone invades the States, lol. I agree about rank progression during normal circumstances , but if I'm Msgt and me and 4 other guys save the whole planet, they could make me Lt. Gen and no one would bat an eyelid.

OK...played a few more MP missions.  This time, on a map from the Demo.  All was well and I leveled up my Vanguard to 7.  I made wave 9 the first match and War Readiness went up 4%.  Made wave 10 the second match and I am at 58%.  Not sure what will happen if you complete a match successfully.  It seems like it just complements the main game and gives you more time to complete missions.  Hard to explain but you will see it.  As it stands...it isn't very hard to increase readiness with MP...only played an hour and it went up 8%.

On SP, I am finally on the Normandy and poking around.  It is darker but feels like ME1 Normandy.  You can tell the interior design of the Alliance is different than Cerberus, for sure.  The end of the Mars mission was emotional, to say the least, and the game now has opened up to explore...The area after Mars kind of ends the opening intro to the game.  LOVE how they are handling dialog with old squadmates.  You can tell they know each other real well and speak more with glances and looks.

Animation and facial expressions are still on par with ME2, in my estimate.  When I say the graphic presentation is better, I am referring to ambience, lighting effects, gunfire, Biotics, art design, etc.  Textures for armor are on par with the Demo and ME2, and those I consider poor by today's gaming standards.  Game looks great, overall, and I am not distracted by anything graphically.

Couple bugs I found so far.  When I talked to Joker the first time in the cockpit of the Normandy, I got stuck and couldn't move.  I saved, reloaded and was still stuck...had to revert to a save a few minutes back.  Also, first convo with Liara in her office on the Normandy (Miranda's old office) Shep's head looked to the left the whole conversation and his eyes were rolling around.  A broken animation for sure.

SO, moral of story, SAVE!  There are a few bugs here and there.    Image IPB

EDIT:  I have the DDE/ CE edition and I got an email about the dog but haven't seen him walking around yet.  I do have all the N7 gear and the Reckoning armor/gun.  No word on the Protheon but not sure when he comes into the picture.

Are there a fair number of MP maps available at launch? Don't need exact numbers, if that would be considered a spoiler, but just curious.

If I have to play the two maps from the demo anytime soon again I think I'll cry.

LOL...I hear you.  Yes there are.  I got dumped in a new map fighting Geth and was totally thrown off!

I didn't count but there are about 8ish?  Not sure if you unlock more.  I didn't realize you fight Geth, too.  Nice change.

Ahh, I see!  Nicely done, sir.  Unfortunately, I only have a Mac laptop so this is a no-go for me.  I've heard that some people also get to play the game via Origins at 11PM instead of having to wait until midnight.  I'm gonna wait until tomorrow and REFUSE to look at the forum until I start playing as well. :D

I think it ramps up properly and it still feels balanced. Why gimp a veteran player and strip your powers?

You didn't answer the question. =P

Because I love building my chars from scratch? Even if I can and want to import the decisions made in the previous games. I don't know, I could play only a few NG+ on ME2 because it felt weird. Most of my runs, and I had a lot of them, I'd just import my ME1 chars again and even the level 5 start bothered me but not so much.

I will still play with my Sheps if they're level 30. I'm just asking if there is an option to import the decisions but not the level. =)

No. Don't worry, it's balanced well.
