I think this type of thing takes a lot of the replayability of the game.

Because now, everytime we start a new a game, we will always have play the quests on the same order so they don't expire.

I don't like this...

Replayability is doing every mission in slightly different orders? You're still going to do all of them.

Also, the game doesn't appear to care what side missions you do first. So you're still free to vary those up. Just don't expect to blitz through the main story and then finish all the side quests just before the final battle.

That's your personal preference.  If a game is designed to offer different experiences during consecutive playthroughs why shouldn't missions be available / unavailable based on choices.

Hello? The Virmire Survivor changes gameplay based on choice.  You can't save Ash and then Kaiden because you will it to happen.  Different choices yield different gameplay paths.

What i meant is that we will always have some quests that we don't like.
In ME2 we could choose to do it at any time, so i always left then to do for last. For example, i hate Jacob quest or Overlod and Firewalker DLC, so i always leave them for last.
I haven't played ME3 yet, but for what i'm hearing, liking or not you will have to do it now or it's gone for you.

It gives a sense of "this is the path you have to take if wanna get to end" rather then "hey, your destination is that one, but you can choose how to get there".

I don't know if explained myself properly.

The Galaxy is at War! If you advance the main plot, so does the enemy. There is a chance that some side quests would make no sense then. For example, how could we find something somewhere if we advanced the plot and now that somewhere is destroyed? Get it? So try do all side quests before advancing too much the main quest, if you are a completionist and hate failed quests.

It is a choice. Choose wisely.

PS: this is not addressed to anyone in particular.

If you don't like them, why do them at all?

This is one of the worst systems i've ever seen in a game.

We don't have an active timer that shuts off missions if you've been playing X amount of hours before completing them. There are, however, a few missions that will expire if you don't complete them before advancing the main plot/if you complete less urgent missions instead.

So you are tell us, basiclly, to do every side mission as soon as we get it so it doesn't get locked out?

If you want to play it that way to be safe, you can. There's not a lot of missions that get locked off, and we only did it when there was a good story reason for them to expire if you let time pass by doing other missions.

Then these quests should be clearly marked somehow. Or on the story quests that would lock them out there should be something like "WARNING: You will be unable to complete some sidequests by doing this mission.". To just add them in and not give a heads up is poor design. This is 2012 not the 90's.

An artificial way of prolonging the game. We are forced to back track and wander about endlessly because if we get a sidequest that tells us to trek to the other end of the citadel, you better ****ing do it.

I hate those quests! I don't enjoy playing anymore because you are forced to think about those expiring tasks instead of the other major plot lines.

Fix it Bioware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lol do Bioware actually sit around planning to wind up their fans? I mean who on the team actually thought this was a good idea and would go over well?

They must listen to me more than I thought. I've been lobbying for timed quests for years.

They aren't actually timed, in that they fail after a set period of time. Usually, they would fail after a certain plot mission, often because what the sidequest involves really wouldn't make sense after that mission, I don't think any of them are actually based on time.

I'm stressed out because I'm scared if I don't finish sidequests, they'll go away, but if I DO, then people will die in the priority missions. Do emails telling you to meet someone expire the way side quests do?

I don't mind the idea of them but they really need to give you a heads up that you need to do this ASAP or if you do this mission you won't be able to do these quests afterwards etc. Rather poor design to not alert the player that they're about to fail some content.

Either they need warnings, or they need clear dialogue that tells you. If you don't pick it up from that dialogue, well, your fault. Some people would like the immersion, while others would rage like normal :P.

Don't fret. You can ignore Priority Missions while you clear out subquests. Once you perform a Priority Mission, since that advances the story, you might lose subquests, possibly never gaining access to them again (and even losing people you might otherwise been reunited with).
The bottom line is, priority missions should be your lowest priority

I came across this in another forum and it sounds like pretty good advice:
  • Play the game doing Priority Missions till you get access to the Tuchanka Missions.
  • Do all side-missions before doing the last Tuchanka priority mission
  • After completing the side-missions available to that point, continue the Priority missions.
  • I'd recommend getting your last squad mate first (you should be able to guess who and where),
  • Than proceed to do the rest of the side-missions.
  • Finish remaining Priority missions, doing the side-missions first as they pop up.

I'll never understand the citadel side quests in 3. Almost everything is just overheard dialogue that leads to planet scanning. 1 and 2 both had interesting conversation/diplomacy side quests on the Citadel, as well as actual missions that took place there. Aside from the Cerberus invasion, there was nothing to do on the Citadel except go to the firing range. Really I think it would've benefited from much less side quests instead of numerous ones made cheaply. Side missions in 2 were great, and some even chained together like the rogue VI that took over the robotics plant. That stuff was awesome. In 1 side exploration missions were also good, they just seemed repetitive from the building layouts and how much ground had to be covered in the Mako. Truthfully, I missed the Mako, it made more sense than everything just suddenly being within walking distance, though I suppose with the shuttle, being dropped off near the mission is more achievable.
