From the IGN preview/review feature.

Things were bad in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, but not this bad. Why is Shepard therefore being asked to do fetch quests? If the Reapers win, everything is for naught, and the game would have felt a little more realistic and true to itself with more of a pinpoint focus on the Reapers only.

There are other concerns I have with side quests. One concern centers on the sheer amount of random side quests earned when running through places like the Citadel. Overhearing random characters speaking triggered side quests in past Mass Effect games, but in Mass Effect 3, this is brought to an almost absurd level. You can earn multiple side quests within a minute of each other by running through a new area of the Citadel, for instance, without having known to listen to the actual conversations for context. And the codex does a poor job of explaining your actual task. All of this comes off as a bit sloppy and unnecessary.

The other complaint pertains to side quest timing. I've failed several side quests because I didn't do them soon enough, but you're never given much of an explanation of timeliness, or given fair warning that time is even a threat. So take heed from my experience, and knock out side quests as soon as you earn them. Otherwise, you may eventually get cut off from them forever.

Even the reviewer didn't actually understand the system behind it.

For example I missed one about investigating a military death. I found it, went back to my ship had 1-2 cut-scenes but no travel then went back to the planet and the timer had already timed out. Even though there was no warning.

So he picked up the quest, left the planet and went back to the Normandy, and the quest expired because he changed zones. It doesn't sound like there was an actual timer counting the minutes. It sounds more like some of these sidequests will void if you leave the area you picked them up from. If there is an actual timer, I will be pissed.

This is a huge bummer. Honestly, that just sucks.

I'd rather move at my own pace and take my time- Naturally, I'm a patient gamer.

I was wondering the same thing. Is it changing zones (i.e., going to your ship, potentially considered to have left the planet), or a timer? Definitely something to be mindful of, though!

I'm hoping these so called "early access" people are just gently trolling every one and it isn't as bad as it seems.

That, however, is fine. Not ideal, but acceptable. Either way, its not very clear which is the case, guess we'll all find out soon. An actual timer while running around in a single location is ridiculous if true.

That sucks, major league.

I hope I don't have to sit with wiki page open on my PC and try to solve the quests that way. Because that'd be terrible.

So, it seems that most sidequests have a hidden timer. The game never tells you that. So, if you just accumulate them, you will end up failing most of them.

How do you feel about hidden timers and sidequests you can't control?

I think it's great. The only thing in the ME universe I should be able to control is Shepard's actions. And the universe should not pause and wait politely for Shepard to get around to doing everything he'd like to do.

Could be interesting and kind of annoying. Reminds me of that Mass Effect trailer where it makes it seem like you have to choose one mission over the other.

I like this idea. It simulates a sense of urgency. This will create some tension and force you to make a decision (i.e. do I take time from "saving the galaxy" to find a cat in the tree or not). I really like this idea.

Agreed.  I think this feature make the world seem more "alive" and less like a game.

It looks like getting the game two days late won't be enough to save playthroughs from disasters of any kind.

At this rate, I think I'll go wait for a guide over at GameFAQs or something - even though I'll be getting the game come March 8.

Realizing it is probably way too early for this, but has anyone been assembling a walkthrough/updating the Wiki page as they discover these?  I've got a plate of internet cookies for the kind soul that cares for their fellow gamer. :innocent:

Really depends on the implementation. I don't like actual timers. I don't mind a certain number of zone or planet changes before it expires.

I'm worried just because of that. I would actualy dislike this game very much if the main quest would be time-limited. I don't like to be rushing around.

Or you don't have to be OCC and miss some quest and take your time. Most of us will play this game 50 times. How great to have some things to do on another play through. I actually like the idea that you can't save everyone or do everything in one play through unless you do it with urgency. I'm not going to let the game force me to rush. If some people die because I'm taking my time so be it. I'll call it a casualty of war. If there is an achievement tied to being a completionist then I'll do an achievement playthrough. Otherwise I'm going to enjoy the game at my own place and not feel like I have to do every mission on one playthrough.
