Considering you have to do every side quest (if you don't play multiplayer) to get the "best" ending, this is incredibly stupid.

Could be interesting and kind of annoying. Reminds me of that Mass Effect trailer where it makes it seem like you have to choose one mission over the other.

This one, right?

Yeah, that's what I wanted in ME1 and didn't get.

BG2 and fallout 1 had timed quests (hell FO1's main quest was timed) so im not so worried really

I'm worried just because of that. I would actualy dislike this game very much if the main quest would be time-limited. I don't like to be rushing around.

1)FO1s time limit is pretty long as in you have more than enough time to do all sidequests and grind your character to lv20(which takes forever) with time to spare

2) from what iv seen its only sidequests that are timed in this game

That's the main problem along with character progression. If you time out on a bunch of quests, you lose all that XP and who knows what else.

Ah, well good to hear that from FO1. I only played the second game at my friend's house. I heard about the time limit later.

And I hope it's only sidequests.

Well, Xoisite (guy with Space Edition who posted many spoilers in the BSN spoiler group) was able to 'easily' amass enough GAW points or whatever to get the best ending available. So it doesn't seem as though possibly failing a few sidequests is that much of an issue.

BG2 had very few timed quests, and for the few quests that were timed, you were clearly given a time when you should be somewhere or do something - you didn't have to guess.

IF it is true that ME3 has side quests that have "hidden" time limits, I believe that'll be a first in Bioware games. And not a good first either. :(

Hopefully ME3 is moddable, and some modder can make something to remove the time limits ASAP.

I'm actually amazed that Bio had the guts to do this. I thought MotB had scared everyone off of this sort of thing forever.

Going to have to make multiple saves then.

I don't personally mind the idea of timed quests BioWare, but at least let us know what quests are timed or not and how long we have to do them. That's all. ;)

More timed missions?

What the hell... I thought this was an RPG still.

I do this anyway. I had like 50 saves in my ME2 playthroughs.

Also, how do you know if you got enough points for the best possible ending? Does it tell you, "this is the best possible ending"?

RPG = the universe pauses while the player explores all the content at his leisure?

So, it seems that most sidequests have a hidden timer. The game never tells you that. So, if you just accumulate them, you will end up failing most of them.

How do you feel about hidden timers and sidequests you can't control?

I think it's great. The only thing in the ME universe I should be able to control is Shepard's actions. And the universe should not pause and wait politely for Shepard to get around to doing everything he'd like to do.

I can live with time limits AS LONG AS I get a warning that there's a time limit, and what that limit is. Realism in games is fine to an extent - it should not hamper the enjoyment of playing though.

True plus I have no idea how some Citadel civillians happiness can add to the war assets. I doubt the EXP gain is big either.

If you say so. I'm coming around to the idea that while I like Bioware games, I just might hate RPGs.

^Nah, there is still missable stuff in RPGs  just not in the same context as this.

I just realised the pointlessness of what I said.

If they're going to require you to complete side quests within a certain time period, they'd better not throw them at you half a dozen at a time and send you back and forth all over the place.

I might be ok with them, if they're done correctly. Of course, from the sound of it they're going to be more trouble then they're worth.

I'm ok with timed side missions, I'd just prefer to be more aware of the time limits. As much as I love having stuff to do on the side, I do oftentimes feel like it detracts from the importance of the main story when I can take my time doing other stuff. It makes a lot of sense that if a base is under attack or something, I should get there ASAP. I mean, I've had things come up in various games that are along the lines of "My child is held hostage, please help!" Somehow I doubt if the kidnappers are going to wait that long. Just look at Skyrim, investigating the return of the dragons and a civil war are supposed to be the main things going on, yet I've barely touched those, and about year has passed in-game since I started, so it makes those seem a bit unimportant.

So yeah, I like the idea, I'd just like to be made more aware of the consequences. Thanks to the OP for the heads up.
