I'm not as deep into game to fully judge that and I don't want to spread conspiracy theories but hidden timers resulting in missed quests are great way to make people play MP to rise War Assets.
I'd almost get that, but if that's the case why even add the side quest? So you miss out on content because you didn't play fast enough? That makes no sense.
If the side quest told you that you had say 10 minutes or a certain amount of time then cool, but no real time at all? I really don't understand that.

So, I get a quest on the citadel, go on the normandy to fly to the destination, but one of the characters onboard the normandy sends word to Kelly Mk.II(I just tend to forget the new ones name) that they need my attention now, resulting in another timed mission.
There is nothing to show me, which timed mission I can do first, without failing the other?
I really appreciated it, when I heard the war wouldn't be timed, but gave me all the time I want for doing side-missions.
I've got no problem with these missions running out, but not even a timer?
Not even a clue?

Well, in theory...
I would imagine the publisher might request the developer include some impediment that would push the gamer towards playing MP, so that I could theoretically make people who bought the game used pay me $10 so they can get the best ending.
The developer would then have to figure out a way to do it. Which might be putting hidden timers on sidequests with the expectation that most people would find out only after they'd picked up all of the quests, and already failed several of them, with no recourse but MP to get the optimal ending.
But that's just a theory, assuming the hidden timers thing is true.

seems like a bad idea all in all. im sure people like having the consequences of 'waiting' but nobody wants to miss out on parts of the game becasue they did X first instead of Y.
oh well, by playthrough #3 im pretty sure well all know the exact order of sidequests closing and waht not. actually makes me feel like the game is all the more linear tho....

so if the sidequests wont unlock unless i say one little line of dialogue to random NPC, then the answer is, DONT TALK TO ANYONE.
Problem is that I didn't talked to anyone. Just walked near some folks who started talking. It triggered quest and added it to journal. Even if You run away, once it is triggered You will get it. Not sure what will happen if You avoid it. Will it expire or You will be able to get it later.

great, so then the answer is dont play the game, if you want to play the game.
meh, id rather have sidequests open throughout the entire game, or there better be enough sidequests available late game that i wont care that i missed the first ones.

Hard to tell now.
I see no big problem in doing sidequests as soon as I get them (but still it is forced).
Problem is that I'm not sure if I can play now 'cause I'm not able to do that quest and I don't want to miss it.

So, it seems that most sidequests have a hidden timer. The game never tells you that. So, if you just accumulate them, you will end up failing most of them.
How do you feel about hidden timers and sidequests you can't control?
I think it's great. The only thing in the ME universe I should be able to control is Shepard's actions. And the universe should not pause and wait politely for Shepard to get around to doing everything he'd like to do.
Sometimes I agree with AlanC9, sometimes I don't. This time I do.

on to topic, This has got to be the worst mistake in any RPG game within atleast 11 years -.- Considering the pace you get those things. Go to citadel. walk to the end of noe corridor. go out and do a quest, come back walk to another corridor etc. this sounds like a shady way of devs trying to make the game last longer -.- so they can pat theirselves on the back and say they did a long immersive game, something tells me that without this mechanic the gameplay time might end up being less than me2 or 1. Thank science and logic for the local retail sellers for selling the pre order of this game for only 26€. I would have hated to pay 45 or more off the shelf, and hated myself for giving more money to people making things like this to an end of a trilogy that has a large loyal fan base. Definetly one of the last if not last BW game i am buying.

I'm so failing the sidequests. I get lost...easily! I can see "You failed because you turned right when you should have turned left!"

I wish I could say I am disappointed, but it seems so very often, almost to the point of expectation, that someone just has to implement a brilliant(foolish) idea which damages a games fun factor.

I disagree. If you want to make it an actual realistic timeline, then I should be able to just let the galaxy be destroyed by waiting around and stalling until the Reapers take over. Gametime is never the same as "real time." So I'm getting ready to be annoyed. : )

Although most people sound disturbed about this I love it. It has always irked me you could have a critical event happening but the way the game is designed it actually rewards you for messing about. Huge immersion breaker. This means that every decision you make is critical.

I get what you mean, but if you do this on the 3rd game, people who don't know it is timed and fail due to that would be pissed because previous games never did it.
I just hope the timed ones let you know they are so, because I want to take my time with a game I am spending over $100 on.

I can't see Bioware doing that with essntial side quests. Just, likely, quests that are random little Shepard helping out quests.
