Although most people sound disturbed about this I love it. It has always irked me you could have a critical event happening but the way the game is designed it actually rewards you for messing about. Huge immersion breaker. This means that every decision you make is critical.

Edit: Also means there will be more variety between different play throughs.

I get what you mean, but if you do this on the 3rd game, people who don't know it is timed and fail due to that would be pissed because previous games never did it.

I just hope the timed ones let you know they are so, because I want to take my time with a game I am spending over $100 on.

I'm hoping it is evident in the way they are presented to you rather than being explicity told. ie if you get a distress call about reapers attacking a space station then taht is probably pretty urgent.

My recomendation is to just immerse yourself in it. If you miss a piece of content don't worry about it. Enjoy the less predictable nature of the game.

Is it story progression that can lock quests out? Or just delaying?

Are the majority of these side quests actually timed, or are they 'timed' like ME2's SM where you could only mess around with other quests for so long before something bad happened?

it much fun to do the side quest first anyway once you get them before the main story quest

The way it's being explained, it seems like it's actually timed. Like, you know that part in the IGN video about the Citadel where Shepard walks up to 2 people having an argument and you can choose to support one or the other? Apparently if you were to leave or walk off for too long, you'd fail that quest.

Complete bull.

That is something I could live with, and you're right. It would be very immersive, as long as in my 1st playthrough I feel I get my moneys worth, I will be happy. I loved the previous two, so I'm sure I should like this. Would take something major to not end up happy with it.

If this is true, then I am dissapointed. I thought that after 2 games of illusory tension, they'd stick with what works. Instead, I have to micromanage my quests and do them one at a time in order to experience the content.

Bad design is bad.

Great ... So as I sit there trying to play with my toddler in the background, I can fail quests simply because I decide to put parenting before the game? I guess I better become an obsessive saver and fast.

To be clear, if you impose a real-time limit on me, that's fine, but I'd better see the frikkin' timer.

Sweet mother of **** you people can ***** about anything.

I guess you would totally hate both Baldur's Gate games where if you take too long, your companions will leave you for good?

I don't think it's so much that it's timed, but that it makes no mention of it, nor is there a timer. For stuff like responding to a distress beacon, sure, hidden timer makes sense because it sounds urgent, but hidden timer for getting item to person with no true urgency (a family heirloom or something) is kind of a dick move is all.

I'm not noticing any "timed" quests and I just did Palaven (bumped into an old friend there).

Maybe if you leave outstanding side quests in systems days/hours away from being overrun and focus just on the primary missions then yeah they do get killed off by the Reapers.

So do a main quest, finish any side quests you get from it, then do another main quest, repeat as necessary. It makes perfect sense because the Reapers are just knifing through everybody as fast as they can. Galaxy's getting brutally, brutally curbstomped. I can't stress that enough, the Reapers are really cleaning house. And fast.

This is the best advice ever, will take it on board and use it when the Reapers reach NZ.

The only thing this crap will do is encourage metagaming among a fair number of players.

I have no problem with how side quests were handled in ME1 and 2. In ME1 you had to get/do some quests at certain times in the main missions. Or side quests had to be completed before Ilos. In ME2, you also had the post IFF fiasco urgency to save the crew (if you were unprepared in terms of material, upgrades, or loyalty).

An "internal clock" on most (or all) side quests is unnecessary. Games like this are supposed to be FUN, not realistic or rushed.

but in me2 it gave CLEAR warning that the suicide mission was it. get your stuff done before you make the jump

agreed :S the game doesnt arrive here till 9th. But already it sounds like the development suffered an acute increase in arrows to the knee. not so sure if i will recommend this game to any friends who keep asking is this game gonna be good. atm with all the control problems, soddy ending and now these hidden timer sidequests this game is looking like barely a 5.5/10 :S when 2 months ago i was ready to rate it 9/10 when it comes out.

In relation to the endings its not like it makes any difference. I leave it upto the individual to determine whether that is good or bad.

Hopefully they are not timed, I'd rather pace myself with the sidequest

Heh, reminds me of Baldur's Gate when your companions would flip out and leave if you ignored their sidequest.

You had a lot of time, though.   It was an 'eventually.'   Not an "Oh, hi, I'm Minsc and if we don't do this right this second I'm gonna fail you..."
