In your opinions, are any of the Mass Effect novels worth reading? I think I know what I'd be getting with them, but are they consistant with the tone and content of the background presented in the games? I enjoy the fluff behind Mass Effect, but I wouldn't want to go around with some weird plot twist from the books ruining the story in the games for me.

all of Drew K. Mass Effect Novels are the best.

Certainly! I like them a lot, and I feel they add a lot to the background of the games.

I would advise avoiding Deception, obviously, and I'm not the hugest fan of some of the comics, but Drew K.'s novels are great, and if you're interested in some backstory, you probably would like the comic Redemption, about Liara recovering Shepard's body.

The 3 by Drew Karpyshyn are pretty good. I recommend them. The one by William C. Dietz (the most recent book) is not worth the paper it is printed on. Dietz's book ranks up there with the Star Wars novel "The Crystal Star" in terms of awfulness.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like I'll be picking up the first three books at some point. Now what is the problem with Deception? Is it just poorly written?

It has major lore and character errors. Just google search "Deception errors google doc" and you can read them. I listened to all 3 audio books this week to prepare for Mass Effect 3, and I am glad I did. After hearing some of the character and places added to 3, it made it worth while.

There are many videos showing people burning Deception, it was just that bad.
