I'm playing an Engineer and I'm wondering if I should respec for ME3.

Overload- 4;Heavy
Incinerate- 4;Heavy
AI Hacking- 0
Cryo Blast- 1
Combat Drone: 4;(forget, wasn't Exploding)
Engineer- 4;Mechanic
Warp Ammo-2 or 3

I'm playing on Veteran in ME2 and have found that I'm ripping everything to shreds with my powers and Locust; I've got a shotgun (Geth Plasma Shotty) for the bonus weapon but it seems I should have just picked Assault Rifles because I usually am curving my powers and often take people out long before I get to them before I even get to them (including those periods where I rush them). GPS seems relatively useless for my playstyle at times; I just don't see the use of shotties at all.

What difficulty are you playing on? That can affect what powers are most useful.

Cryo Blast is my favorite power in ME2. The freeze effect kills Husks even at full health. Frozen enemies take double damage (and also can't shoot back). Cryo only got better for ME3. In ME3, Cryo Blast will slow protected enemies and weaken armor. That means you don't have to remove shields or armor to get use out of Cryo in ME3, yay!

I can't seem to edit my last post, but I wanted to add more specifically that cryo (both ammo and blast) is most effective against unshielded, unarmored enemies, as it can freeze them. On the other hand, Warp Ammo (if that's your alternate option) is effective against both barriers and armor. So it really comes down to what's more important to you--stripping away barriers or directly affecting health? If the former, then focus on other powers. If the latter, Cryo Blast might be a better choice.

Or take a third option and put a point in AI Hacking! You've already got synthetics covered with Overload, though.

Are you not at level 30 yet? Your powers don't come out to 51 pts.

At any rate, Full Cryo Blast is one of the best powers in ME2. It remains to be seen how it balances in ME3.

I do not like Warp Ammo with the exception of maybe on a Biotic or a Widow Infiltrator. Even then it is so you don't have to take another active power.

For an Engineer at Level 30 I like something like this:

Area Overload
Incineration Blast
Explosive Drone
Full Cryo Blast
Mechanic
Neural Shock 1 (completely redundant really, but a good power that is Tech, so no mismatched character)

Or you can forgo the bonus and put 1pt in AI Hacking for random mechs. Not necessary though because Cryo Blast on unprotected Mechs takes them out of the fight.

If you are going against synthetics mainly respec to

Area Overload
Incinerate 1
Explosive Drone
Full Cryo Blast
Improved AI Hacking
Mechanic

Of course you can actually use the second one for the majority of the game and not respec.

There are many ways to play the game, but this one is decent. Another thing I have done is use Area Energy Drain, which is ok. You won't be using Cryo as much with that build though. Engineer is one of the most versatile classes really so you could do anything you wanted :)

in ME2 you can freeze anything once you strip away their defenses. This destroys krogan, husks, and even immobilizes geth. AI hacking only works on synthetics: only geth and mechs. However for AI Hacking to work, enemy defenses must be stripped which is why it provides a shield. Generally, hacked synthetics don't really do much carnage before reverting due to previous state. Also once armor and/or shields are stripped, synthetics don't have much health, so it's generally faster to shoot, lift+warp, cryo-blast, or re-overload them. Lastly, nothing is quite as fun as watching a corpse shatter from snap-freezing. Summarily, I'd recommend one point in cryo-blast since AI-hacking doesn't become immensely useful unless you can evolve it and consistently find hordes of robots to kill.

edit: remember most of mass effect 1 was geth slaughtering. most of mass effect 2 is mercenary & collector slaughtering.

I like having Full Cryo nearly all the time though :)

I agree with killing speed and Hacking, although Improved Hacking is pretty decent for taking fire off of you.
