What happened to being able to achieve everything just by playing the Single Player campaign?

It's not spoilery to talk about what the numbers mean in the abstract, right?

You Galactic Readiness level is locked at 50% unless you play Multiplayer or the Infiltrator iOS game.

I always play single player before doing MP, mainly because...well, it just seems wrong not do it.
Also, spoilers.

That's not the point.
I will also play the Multiplayer and I'll enjoy the hell out of it.
The point is that we were told that it wasn't necessary and everything could be achieved solely in the Single Player and this is obviously not true.

If this is true then Gatt9's gonna have another field day on BSN.NeecHMonkeY wrote...

It's just a way to get to the 'best' endings without doing the N7 missions.
Do the N7 missions, and you don't need multiplayer.

The best available ending can be achieved solely via single player. It means you clean house on the side missions. You can supplement that with multiplayer as much or as little as you like.
Or you can be OCD about it and do both to death.
