I was looking forward to this game from the minute I finished ME2. AND THIS IS WHAT WE GET FOR OUR ANTICIPATION.

I hate to do this, I really do...but I just can't help myself (because I feel the pain, too).

"I know you feel this...
...you will know pain, Shepard!"

(also, shameless bump to keep this thread visible and alive)

I've had this problem with not only ME3 but also Battlefield 3 and Dragon Age 2 in the past. Every single instance had the problem where the release date check would pop up but freeze when I started it.

I've contacted EA support numerous times but they never offer anything even remotely useful. I even had one take 10 minutes to respond to my question with a "please restart Origin and try again" followed by a "contact your distributor for a refund".

In the past I've had to experiment with other methods (deleting temp log files for BF3 and downloading a certain patch for DA2) but I did finally find a fix that worked for ME3 and I hope it works for those of you still struggling as well.

There's a program called FlyVPN. Go to their website, download the client, set up the free trial and log in. It uses some free trial username and password that resets every 20 minutes, so just keep at it and you'll get in. Exit Origin and open Mass Effect 3 as an administrator. The release date check will pop up but it should run through fine. After that you can exit FlyVPN, open Origin, and play Mass Effect 3!

I both feel it and know pain beyond my darkest dreams.

Edit: Tried deleting the offlinecache file like Origin support advised. Didn't do crap. It's 99% there! WHat the hell is in that 1% that is preventing me from downloading it???!!?

I'm not even too embarrassed to admit this: I'm almost in tears because of this. I have been up for 4 HOURS STRAIGHT trying absolutely everything to get this download to finish, and NOTHING works. What the hell is wrong with Origin?

Wow. I have tried over seven times now to download this game. Nothing has worked. I am starting to think I wasted $80.

Well.. nine hours after release time I still can't clear the release date check in EST here. It still boggles my mind that a smaller company like Valve can release a digital distribution service like Steam that works flawlessly, while a giant conglomerate like EA can only provide us with the giant turd sandwich that is Origin. Hell they had to rename it from EA Download Manager after it was garnering 50 pages of results in google about how awful it was. Damn thing still won't let me clear the release date check, apparently it wasn't even coded to give you a failure message. Why the hell would you want to know what went wrong when you can hear a meaningless Beep and then crash to desktop!

Same here, I tried doing what everyone has said and none works, I don't want to uninstall and reinstall it, and I have a feeling that Origin Support is going to BS There way into not helping.

I shouldn't have to crack the game just to play a game I've bought. D:

So this issues doesn't even seem to be related to the release date check. At least for me. Last night I coaxed the game through the release date check by enabling xp compatibility mode and closing origin before launching me3. Worked fine.

This afternoon when I get back from work, same thing starts happening. The game just won't launch when origin is open it seems. Launching the game with origin closed opens origin, auto logs me in, and proceeds to open fine.

Gotta love origin, such a pile.

Same exact problem. I open Mass Effect 3 in Origin and the release date check comes up and when I accept it goes to 80% very quickly blinks and beeps a couple times and Mass Effect 3 never opens. I can't stand Origin.

Well, I tried everything that you guys tried, nothing happens for me. It doesn't even load up, no bar or anything. How long does it take to load and can anyone offer advice?

Well now we're at 19.5 hours past release time. Still won't pass the release date check. It would appear that due to EA's usual stellar reliability my options now appear to be limited to either VPNing to the opposite end of the planet, or pirating the damn game that I already pre-ordered. I just got home from working an entire day in IT, I shouldn't have to spend my downtime working around EA's terribly put together release candidates as well. This is ridiculous.

Ditto. Came home hoping this was a bug they would have resolved but I'm still stuck with the same update files, release date check, fail to load, redownload 40 mb exe and repeat. It wouldn't be so bad if it would at least give me an indication of what is happening but I'm totally in the dark.

This may or may not help, as I was having a similar issue with the release date check. I'm running Win7 x64. Here's my process:
1. Open the release date checker.
2. Go to Task Manager -> Processes
3. Right-click the Mass Effect 3 release date checker process (I've forgotten the name)
4. Click the Open File Location option (Mine was in C:\\Users\\USERNAME\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\mtka_tmp) and copy the path to the file
5. Go to Windows Firewall settings, click Allow a program...
6. Add the program (not MassEffect3.exe, but the release date checker program in the temp folder)
7. Click the "GO" button for the release date checker (or whatever it says... Next... OK... etc.)
8. TAKE EARTH BACK!

Tried it. No joy.

For me at least it seems like it's passing the release check just not doing whatever it needs to do to make the exe unlock.

OMG This worked!  I think I now owe you my life or my love.  Either way, you can have it when I am done playing.  Thanks again!  :o

Glad it helped! Now if I could only get my custom face to import properly without having to resort to 3rd party tools, I'd be able to play happily, as well!
