Mass Effect 3 cannot successfully determine the custom face code used by this imported save game.

Hur? What? Is there a way to correct this? I tiried looking at my squad load out in ME2, but it didn't show me any digits and when I tried to start a new ME2 game with my old ME1 face but it didn't show me the codes either. Halp?

[Edit] Spelling is hard.

So yeah apparently ME1 face codes do not work in ME3

It wouldn't import my face, so I booted up ME2 and copied the face code down. When I pasted the code into ME3, it looked almost nothing like my ME2 shepherd.

Currently alt-tabbing between ME2 and ME3 to try and recreate my shepherd as close as possible but it's looking like they removed a lot of face options.

This is a MAJOR disappointment... hope they fix this soon. Anyone else having this issue or have a fix for it?

Fffffffuuuuuuuuu.... I wish I had read this sooner... I JUST remade my she in ME2 and took the code from there because I thought it would work that way and had the same issue. What gives!?

Someone is an idiot at Bioware and thought it would be a good idea to REMOVE character customization features and thereby break character importing, I guess...

REALLLLLLLLLLLLLY hope they fix this... doesn't feel like my shepherd anymore now that he looks a bit off :(

I had lost all my PC ME2 saves but had the same character on the X360 so I spent hours last week getting my xbox 360 save converted back to PC with the face working... didn't care so much about the decisions since I could just download a save that had the same decisions/stats as me. What I cared about was having the same face, and that feature is apparently busted :(

So, in poking around with ME3 it looks like they BLOCK using the anything default. For example, I kept the hair and color that default femshep used, but tweaked some of the other stuff. Most of the tweaked some moved over, the default stuff didn't. Also, if you look at the default hair style and color neither of those options are actually available for player to customize. I want exactly the default hair color, but it isn't an option. Come on BioWare, what's going on here?

I don't get a facecode in ME2 when using my ME1 imported character. Nor is it in the save game editor.

Looks like I'll have to re-create it by hand. This is amazingly lame, Bioware. You allow us to import 1000 plot points, but not the faces?

honestly, the one simply thing you can't **** up, and they **** it up. they should have made it where you old code works, and all the new feature should have used character designations not used in the old code

The amount of incompetence demonstrated here is absolutely dizzying. I am trying to imagine how something like this could've gotten through given *any amount* of play testing, and I can't. Did they really expect that nobody who played with a custom face would want to import it? This is like opening up a novel, and finding that every word on the first page is misspelled. Un. Believable.

I really am shocked by this. I guess it's good they have multi-player on this so I can do something else until my Shepard's face can look right.

I swear though, it looks like it has something to do with certain customization options being locked out unless you go with the default faces...

I'm having the same issue; I tweaked my FemShep slightly from the default in ME1, but kept the original hair and hair color. No face code in the squad info, and it won't import from ME2 to ME3. Not acceptable.

There was a facecode generator for ME1 characters. I've found just one link, but it's dead now ( Anyone kept it?

Agree with all. I played some mulitplayer really quick, but then decided I wanted to the campaign instead. I pick the save and looks good and BAMB! it won't import the face. HOW LAME!!!!!! I mean I've only wasted a few hundred hours looking at the same Shepard for a long while! and it's just not right making a new looking Shepard!!...or for what some say a close to looking alike from their Shepard. Make a whole new Shepard takes away from the whole game I'm sorry.

This is a BIG NO! NO! They better be fixing this soon and quick because I AM NOT! and I repeat I AM NOT PLAYING THE CAMPAIGN TILL THIS GETS FIXED!!!

I tryed all the things everyone sounds liek has tried. Load up ME2 quick to get the code but nope! not there and wasent about to boot up ME1...THUS A BIG DOWNER FOR ME FOR THE START OF ME3! a BIG LET DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having the same issues as everyone else here. My choices seem to import (at least according to the screen, I haven't actually played the SP yet...) but I get this error:
Posted Image

Extremely disheartening to put so much time into a series and spend $80 no less, (yes, I purchased the N7 CE) to not get what I was promised, I was told I could finish this series with MY Shepard, not a close approximation, not the default but MY Shepard. You know, the one that's been riding this roller coaster of outrage and air quotes wih me since 2007.

I really hope this issue is fixed soon. I didn't spend all this time and effort on the last two games not to mention my hard earned money to be let down in the 11th hour.

I spent at least an hour at the start of Mass Effect 1 crafting an attractive and interesting face for both my paragon femShep and my renegade manShep. I spent an extremely enjoyable couple of hundreds of hours of my life exploring the galaxy with those individual faces. Then I imported those faces into Mass Effect 2, and continued the story with the same characters I had grown to care about, spending a further couple of hundred hours between them. Now I finally fire up ME3, a game I've been waiting literally YEARS to get my hands on and play, and I CAN'T IMPORT THE FACES FROM MY SAVED GAMES!!! WHISKY TANGO FOXTROT?!?!?!?!?! ARRRRRRGH!!!! If there isn't a patch or workaround to fix this brokenness in the next 72 hours, I want my money back, BioWare. I am not going to play Mass Effect 3 without my old Shepards, period.

Hey people, I also ran into the same problem. From what I can tell, the reason that most faces won't load is due to one of the numerical code (the third last one, if I'm not wrong) having a jump factor of 3 (i.e. 0 -> 3). Therefore, if your face code happens to be anything other than a factor of 3, the game would unfortunately be unable to read it, and thus provides you with the default Shepard.

On the facial I.D code disappearing from the profile interface of ME2, from what I gather, it would seem that on the first playthrough, the I.D. code is there. However, if you went ahead and and replayed your same Shepard and carried over onto a new playthrough and accepted the same face, the facial I.D disappears from the profile readout. The only workaround I can offer is yo reload the very FIRST creation of that particular Shepard.

There's an official response, but it doesn't actually address the issue of missing color/facial features... so yeah...

I'm speechless, utterly speechless . Bioware why? Why?! Why do this to us? You have given us a game that people have literally fallen in love with. Seriously, from the bottom of my heart, I feel deeply connected emotionally and personally to Shepard and my crew. And the complete product is as close to perfect regarding plot, depth, character development, writing, atmosphere, music, and overall detail in every way.

An then this? Its totally confusing as to why you would allow people to lose their Shepard! It doesn't matter that all the detail is carried over if there is a different Shepard. It totally ruins the experience, an experience that YOU allowed us to have! You allowed us to create a character so rich in detail with the power to take them with us over to each new game, but then FORCE us to change the face.

And if anyone says just 'copy it the best you can its not a game breaker' I think I'm going to give up all hope that good, single player campaign games will be here to stay. Its a huge game breaker! If even one little facial detail is different from the original, its not the same game!
Kind regards,

Quigonquinn - A truly shocked, heartbroken and dedicated fan.  :crying:

EDIT: I would just like to say that I now know that Bioware didn't mean for this to happen and therefore my comment is null and void and my faith in Bioware is restore fully 100%!!
