Dimensio is there not a solution for people who have all their choices carried over, just not their face?! I can't believe they didn't sort this :( I just loaded up ME2 and took a pic of my shep, going to try and replicate as much as I can but I can't see it being hopeful.

Cheers for quick reply

Let's see:

I obtained a imported Mass Effect character to Mass Effect 2 code by starting new game importing the ME2 Character after finishing the game:

Complete ME1
Import ME1 Character to ME2
Complete ME2 with the same character
Import ME2 Completed game character to a new game

I obtained a face code and tried it in ME3.

The fun thing is that in hair color, there is missing numbers that cannot use. I think that is the reson to give problems importing.

In addition, the code makes diferences between ME2 and ME3 character, in hair color, for example.

This is the "Face import bug".

There is another bug (it seems) in the importing game decisions, but that's not my case.

Hope this helps. :)

I did not get a code, did you finish the first ME2 mission ? i check right after i could control shepard and there was no code.

My method is only for retrieving save data not detected by the Mass Effect 3 import (assuming the save data still exists anywhere on the storage device).  It does not address errors in reading the data contained within the specific save file, meaning that it cannot fix problems with plot choices (though a save editor may be useful for that) nor can it fix the known face import problem (a save editor cannot fix that).

I plan, this weekend, to put a few save files to a hex editor in what is likely a futile attempt to possibly sort out the face issue, but I am not optimistic about succeeding.

So, Dimensio, what method is that?

If you import an ME1 save to ME2 and alter it slightly, say color of eyes, will that import to ME3 with correct codes?

It involves extracting the individual post-suicide mission save files and injecting them into a newly constructed save.  I am still fully establishing the appropriate means of constructing this save, though I do not believe the process to be difficult.

Unless I'm missing something, I don't think you have the option to edit your Shep once imported into ME2.  Just booted it up and tried to do just that, but wasn't given the option.

Seems all we can do is wait for a patch and play multiplayer in the meantime.

I don't know if BioWare realises the proportion or scale of this issue. Their attitude towards us fans is as if we are talking about just another brush off your shoulder glitch, not a good way to start off. Drove 3 hours away to get the Collectors Edition and now all I am actually willing to play is the multiplayer.... come on BioWare.

kinda stinks since the importer only recognized 5 of 15 playthrus. Really disappointed since the one I really wanted to play in ME3 first had been with all the DLC content and the one that I did end up using recognized that I did all the DLC content except Shadow Broker DLC ( which I did play on that playthru )but thankfully still had my choices for Overlord and surprisingly the DLC from the ME1 anyone else having problems were everything is not importing in a file correctly?

There is a major problem that needs to be fixed here. i have completed bolth ME1 and ME2, with only 1 playthrough (or save file) on each game. the importer worked on ME2 just fine for me, but not for ME3... the game seems to think i dont have a character to import. so i checked my 360 ME2 saves, thinking maybe i deleted him. but of course i didnt, especially since i had done that last mission in ME2. i was so proud of getting my crew through that unharmed, there was no way i would delete that character save.

i want to see what happens to MY version of Shepard, with all of the alliances and friends he should still have. i just hate the Default Shep. as i play i am constantly let down by the story and choices that come to me.

i just want to be able to import my ME2 guy into ME3, i dont care if i have to redo his face...

Have you attempted the method at  http://www.gamefaqs....fect-3/62162976
or do you require instruction for players who no longer have access to Mass Effect 2?

For the record I also couldn't import my face from the hard drive. I actually assumed it was intentional and they just wanted an excuse to let you recustomize. I guess not! I just rolled with default Shep, as all my other data seems to have come over.

I'm going to have to create a dummy ME2 save to help people in your position, because I can't find any easy way to manually create one.  Which I won't be able to do until this evening.  Send me a PM to be on the list of people who get a link to download it.

In the meantime, you should still be able to go through steps 1 through 12 as detailed in the link that I already provided.  Doing that will allow you to verify the game completion status in the Gibbed save editor.

March 12th and no patch implemented yet to correct facial imports. I guess we have to wait even longer. I thought this was gonna get patched on Monday morning. I guess I was wrong. This is obviously not a simple problem with a simple patch. I have a strong feeling this might not be corrected for some time. But if there is a Bioware moderator reading this technical support forum I humbly ask for some kind of update in thus issue however how small on the current state of this fix or lack there of; is this going to be corrected and if at all possible can we have a speculation as to how long it will take. Thank you very much

Oh, ok. Anyway, my xbox ME3 wasn't even recognizing the save. Didn't show any info when I tryed to import. But I finaly got it to work and managed to import. This is what I did:
1.Launched ME2, and loaded the last save I had, right before the final batle against the human reaper.
2.-From inside the game, made a new save and replayed the final moments of ME2 until the end.
3.-Went to my console Storage settings and erased the ME2 Importer File.(Not the save I wanted to import, that one is inside the ME2 File. The importer is on a separate file)
4.- I launched ME2 again, and started a new game, chosing to import my ME1 save again( I did it with the same save I imported originally) and saved the new game as soon as possible, and got out. This forced the game to redownload the importer.
5.- After that, I went to ME3 and the importer was working and able to recognize my save. Alas, the custom face problem remains.

There are two issues here:
1) Some ME2 completed saves aren't recognized. Reloading the last good save as some have suggested above and completing the final battle seems to be the only option. Not great, but it's something.
2) The faces aren't recognized correctly. This is a problem with faces imported from ME1 to ME2 to ME3. How this never got sorted out before release is astonishingly sloppy. Keep in mind that your ME1 and ME2 face will be rendered differently in ME3. Even the faces that I had that were recognized needed pretty significant updates to look right. If you have the face code from ME1 or ME2, you can plug it into ME3. This gives you mostly what you would get with a straight import. But as you'll see, the face-rendering looks different enough that you'll probably want to update all your faces anyway. My recommendation is just to re-customize your face in ME3 to your liking.

I was trying to hold off from playing Mass Effect 3 until my charater's facial features were able to be imported.
I emailed EA's customer support and got the the following reply

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Customer Support regarding Mass Effect 3.I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing those problems with your EA game.
Unfortunately, the face of your character from Mass Effect 2 does not transfer to Mass Effect 3 - you have to recreate it again.
We apologise for any inconveniences caused.
Should you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Does this mean they don't see this as an issue/bug or they are not going to fix it or something else?

It sounds like they may not fix it.... That's a bummer.

But I still recommend recreating the face in ME3. Many of the facial structures, like the eye, lip, nose, and mouth shapes have changed enough from ME2 that your character will probably look unfamiliar anyway. I had a couple import fine, but the head mesh in ME3 is different from the previous games. In my case, I had my femshep eyes at the lowest position. In ME2, this looks roughly correct. In ME3, putting the eyes so low looks really bizarre.

Edit: Also notice that the body forms are totally different. The necks and chins of all femshep faces look much fuller in ME3.

I received this from EA support

"Hello,

Thank you for writing to Electronic Arts again.

Please note that some ME2 saves will not be able to import the face-file of your Shepard. You will need to re-create the appearance when importing the file.

Further by now we do not have such any update on the same however I passed this information to our game developers.

Further I request you to please post this feedback in game official forums, these forums are regularly reviewed by our game developers and they would look into it.

Official forums for "Mass Effect 3" can be located at the below given link: -

http://social.biowar...1/subindex/102"

This, for me, does not mean they are not going to fix it.

However, in the meantime, I chose to recreate my fem Shep and started the game with a look like Shepard. I did not buy the game to keep it on the shelf. After 2 hrs of gameplay, I did not feel it painful to play with her.

The game is mind blowingly entertaining, it is a sin to leave it on the shelf. Once BW fixes the import issue, I will replay with MY Shep as well.

For individuals still unable to import a previous save at all, I have devised a method that does not require a copy of Mass Effect 2 to generate a new save game. The method may also be used to import a converted PC save such as one downloaded from http://www.masseffect2saves.com/

The process is complicated but I have tested and confirmed its legitimacy. Send me a PM with an email address (it can be a throwaway free account if you are concerned for privacy) if you are interested and I will send instructions.

Note that the method that I have devised is used ONLY to fix the problem of Mass Effect 3 seeing no Mass Effect 2 files to import. It is NOT a fix for the face import issue, nor will it fix problems with incorrect plot flags being shown on import.

If only they make some "upgrade" option in the game so we could start with the wrong face to fix it when they get a solution. We could start a game if they make a mid game import face system like the reset abilities in ME2.
