We’re aware of an ongoing issue impacting users who purchased a PC digital download copy of Mass Effect 3 through Amazon.com that is causing some users to experience failed downloads when trying to activate and install the game through Origin. In some cases this error will cause Origin to crash.

If you’ve experienced this problem, just restart Origin and press the “Download” button under Mass Effect 3 in you’re my Games tab. If this fails to resolve your issue, please contact Origin Help.

I am really having trouble with Amazon. I am so upset because I preloaded last night and downloaded 10 gb, but the file ended up not working. I had to rebuy from Origin and now am currently downloading 10Gb again. Amazon is the world's largest marketplace, and someone has to take responsibility for not ensuring it works 100%. Eitherway, I am still not able to play M3 as I wanted and that makes me sad. I have a 9.8GB zip file from Amazon and no way of using it.

For what it's worth, I had to do some jiggering to get my Amazon download working with Origin. This is what I had to do to get my Amazon install working. Note that this is does NOT address authentication issues or anything else. This is just to get Origin to recognize the Amazon download. Your mileage may vary.

After downloading it from Amazon, I ran the installer. This ONLY installed Origin. It did not install the game.

In the directory the Amazon downloader put everything in, there's a huge .zip file containing the actual game.

In Origin's settings menu, one of the options you can set is where Origin installs its stuff. I don't remember the default path, but it's somewhere on the C: drive. Unlike Steam, it does not try and put everything in the Origin folder unless you tell it to.

Once you know where Origin is looking for its installed games (either the default location or the one you set), you know where to put the Mass Effect 3 install.

Unzip the huge zip file from Amazon into a directory named "Mass Effect 3" in the location Origin is expecting. For example, if Origin is looking in C:\\Program Files\\Origin\\Games, you want to create the Mass Effect 3 folder in the Games subdirectory and unzip the zip file there (C:\\Program Files\\Origin\\Games\\Mass Effect 3).

Once you have the files in the right spot, fire up Origin and try to download Mass Effect 3. The download will be "Preparing" for quite a long time. Eventually it will start "Downloading," but the downloading phase will go in huge chunks and finish quickly. It's not actually downloading the game at this point--it's just checking the files that are already in the install directory.

Once Origin has finished "downloading," ME3 should be ready to play. DLC will have to be downloaded and installed separately, but that didn't take me too long.

This obviously won't solve all the issues going on with the Amazon download, but it will hopefully save some headaches for the people who can successfully activate and are just having issues installing.

So far Emerald's suggestion seems to be working for me - although its "downloading" @ roughly 2MB/s...so I'm not sure if that's as quick as the poster suggested. Do make sure that Origin shows the game as ready to 'Download' after you've made sure the files are in the correct installer directory - it didn't work when it showed as ready to 'Install' in Origin.

Pretty dissappointed overall. I know Origin is the new kid on the block, but between my failed pre-load attempts yesterday and my attempts today, I would say that I've downloaded around 40gb and wasted 4 hrs. It would be nice to see both parties be proactive and communicate this issue to their loyal customers.

I honestly didn't notice the download speed numbers. I only know it went far faster than when I was initially kicking off the Origin download from scratch before I figured out how to get Origin to recognize the Amazon pre-load.

I'd really like to see either Amazon or EA provide instructions as to how to get the 10+ GB Amazon download working. As near as I can tell there are no instructions anywhere, which renders the Amazon download effectively useless to (it would seem) a good chunk of the userbase. Even though I got it working, nothing about the process is terribly self-explanatory.

Heck, the "install" process even requires the user to create a directory that they would normally have no way of knowing about. I discovered that little tidbit on accident when I looked at where the Origin download was going before I figured out this solution,

I had purchased my digital deluxe edition from Amazon and had no problems with it on Origin. I didn't download it through Amazon though.

On Friday when it became available for preload I noticed that Amazon showed the keys. I just went into Origin and put the keys into the Redeem Product Code box and it added them to Origin. I started the download through Origin and it took just a little over an hour to complete.

It activated without any problem or additional downloading just after midnight on 03/06.

Turmoil2K1 actually makes a good point.  I did not purchase mine from Amazon, but my experience should apply to any game pertaining to Origin.

It seems to me that the key to eliminating much of the download/install problems is to have access to your product/registration code.   The first time I tried to install ME3, I did it through Origin instead of using the actual discs.

The "gear" button at the top of the window in Origin allows you to "Redeem Product Code."  As long as you have the product code on hand and redeem through Origin, Origin will pull the game and process the download/installation regardless of where you bought the game.

I had to do something similar when I bought the CE edition of ME2 in early February.  I did not want to lug around the game disc all the time to play ME2 (for authentication), so the only way I was able to play both on my laptop and desktop was to install the game through Origin.  Based upon my experience with ME2, I did the same thing with ME3.  It seemed to wok for the most part except for the Date Check which screwed everything up.

In short, save yourself a lot of headaches with the following:
(1) If you have the product code, redeem the product code through Origin.
(2) Save your zip file from Amazon somewhere & basically treat it as your "physical disc copy" of the game.

Hopefully this helps and will alleviate many of your concerns.
