Turmoil2K1 actually makes a good point. I did not purchase mine from Amazon, but my experience should apply to any game pertaining to Origin.
It seems to me that the key to eliminating much of the download/install problems is to have access to your
product/registration code. The first time I tried to install ME3, I did it through Origin instead of using the actual discs.
The "gear" button at the top of the window in Origin allows you to "Redeem Product Code." As long as you have the product code on hand and redeem through Origin, Origin will pull the game and process the download/installation regardless of where you bought the game.
I had to do something similar when I bought the CE edition of ME2 in early February. I did not want to lug around the game disc all the time to play ME2 (for authentication), so the only way I was able to play both on my laptop and desktop was to
install the game through Origin. Based upon my experience with ME2, I did the same thing with ME3. It seemed to wok for the most part except for the Date Check which screwed everything up.
In short, save yourself a lot of headaches with the following:
(1) If you have the
product code, redeem the product code through Origin.
(2) Save your zip file from Amazon somewhere & basically treat it as your "physical disc copy" of the game.
Hopefully this helps and will alleviate many of your concerns.
