To each their own. Film grain was the first thing I turned off.

me too, but if it was not incuded because of consoles...well that's just sad. Don't punish people who do wish to play games on 8 year old crappy hardware.

Its very sad that this is missing along with holstering (to enjoy the surroundings hudless and from any angle) and the ability to kit out your squad.

Very sad

I just don't get that from ME1->ME2 they took away soo many things (mostly things that didn't work right but could have been fixed) and now from ME2->ME3 we apparently again lose some things (autodialogue instead of choosing yourself, no weapon holstering, film grain).
Granted I haven't played the third game yet, but Bioware seems to keep the trend of taking things away. I just don't get it. Give us the options for all those things and let us decide for ourselves if we want to use them. I personally really enjoyed the film grain in ME1 and ME2.

There won't even be film grain in films any more if they're all filmed in digital :(

Seriously, I didn't even noticed the absence of the film grain effect. But it's sad that it isn't in the full game either.

Someone involved with game design already explained this on another thread: film grain is a RAM-hungry post-processing that eats up a significant portion of the 'budget'. Basically it was either that or anti-aliasing as both would have made the framerate drops worse, so take your pick.

 MHahahahahahaahahahahahaha...

FilmGrain is a single bloody textures, that is layed over the entire image. Ive extracted it 100s of times. There even texmods outthere, that reduce or increase filmgrain.

Ram-Rungry..LOL

Antialiasing can still be forced from CP, even if game doesnt have said feature in options... That, and their AA suck and makes the image blury. Honestly. :P

Oh brother. Such Nonesence. That and even excepting this rediculous explanation, they still had that lower-gun animation. Could have just applied it to Shep + expand FOV, when out of combat, just like with the squad. No worriers, some modder will do it, give or take a few months.

Did you lose it 100s of times too? Or do you just want 100s of copies of a film grain texture?

I just got the game, and started the intro sequence. My computer is shiny-new, and still the game look a lot worse than ME2 did. It kind of destroys the whole game, when game nr. 3, two years later, looks like a step backwards in quality.

I wish I could go back to playing ME2, and get ME3 as DLC instead :) Or they could fix this in a patch ASAP :) cant be that hard.

the biggest difference is noticeable in the faces. In ME2 film grain effect helped mask all the plastic look that every unreal 3 engine game has. It made the characters look stunningly realistic. Now in ME3 all that cartooney and plastic feel is really hurting the game for me because it looks quite different and "alien" compared to the previous games.

I noticed the missing filmgrain in the demo and thought "oh, I guess they just didn't include it for performance sake but there's no way it's not in the full game" and now THIS??? I always play with filmgrain on, it gives the game a... I don't know, a raw feel...

In other words PUT FILMGRAIN BACK IN MASS EFFECT!!!

Holstering and film grain...right. Holstering even is in the game. Just come up to the wall and voila, animation's working. Filmgrain's also in the game, won't say where, but you'll see. So much video options were taken away from gamers that's just sad. Everything else seems to be okay. Ah, facial animations aka lip-sync...we have dismissed that claim also XD

The entire graphical presentation is a giant leap backwards from ME2, which was nicely polished and very well optimized graphically. It felt like a proper PC game.

But this.. this I didn't expect.

I work in the construction engineering and design field. If gaming companies are anything like the companies that I deal with then it's easy to explain to the incompleteness of games. Companies only devote resources to projects that are short on time. When there's lots of time left on a project, that project is not a priority and little gets done. So all projects are rushed. The invasion on the beaches of normandy happens when a project is running out of time.
