Mass Effect used to be one of my favorite games, and when I heard they were announcing Mass Effect 2, I thought they'd started an RPG series for the ages, to stand alongside the likes of Baldur's Gate, oh boy, I was wrong. They'd gutted everything to make room for worse writing, a terrible story, awful new characters, and horribly dumbed-down gameplay, and it's only gotten worse from there. ME3 is a wretched mess of a game that serves to kill any surviving positivity left over from the brutal mutilation Mass Effect 2 suffered to dumb it down for a wider audience. Even worse writing gameplay about, mixed with terrible robotic cutscenes and terrible graphics. Please, don't buy this game. Rent it, beat it in a day, and return it. You will have missed nothing."

I find it a bit disturbing about the Metcritic score. Even if only a half of hate has some merit, it'll surely impact my next apporach to Bioware games.
I've spent really a lot of money on deluxe editions and pre-ordered games coupled with quite an amount of DLCs.
THe first game with no DLC was DA2... I've found it lacking and after two playthroughs (which second took a lot of time and felt a bit forced, but I wanted to check other gender and other line of plot) that game had no replay value and in fact I'm strongly opposed to what was done to that franchise and game genre...
I'm a bit disturbed by the fact that it seems that the game went into the direction of more shooter, less well refined story and continuance. I'll wait with my judgement till the game itself.
I liked CoD:MW series and "Cpt. Price's story" and CoD experience, but in Bioware games I liked the idea of "interactive good books" with a tactical approach to combat, and building my characters to do the combat for me. IMO Bioware should stick to the type of games in which they were Giants - especially when it involved Black Isle/Obsidian team in the mix.
If I want competitive RTS, I go to Blizzard.
If I want a great RTT I go to Relic/THQ
If I want a good overall strategy game, I have a Total War series (Creative Assembly)
If I want an FPS, I take up CoD or CS. (Haven't tried BF yet)
If I want a casual bloodbath/TPS I have Relic's Space Marine.
If I want Hack'n'Slash I yet again go to Blizzard
If I wanted a well made RPG with predefined character, I had The Witcher.
And I've used to reach out to Bioware for their great cRPG where you had great companions, great writting and good story, ability to build your own story and define Your Own character and live up with consequences of your choices nice MP client for RPG experience (god forbid the litteration of MP exeprience like in ME3).
I do not like MMORPGs or Sandbox experience games. I've tried with Morrowind, later with Fallout 3 (god knows how awful was that), but I've gave it another try with Fallout:NV. While it was better, I didn't force myself to complete it.
All in all, It seems that Bioware is trying hard to branch out into areas in which they were not present, but at the same forgetting the core of what made them great.
I will miss the experience that they were able to provide, because to be honest, there is no other company, maybe aside of Obsidian, that would be able to deliver the same kind of entertainment experience.
I'm not against Bioware's branching up. It's a natural development of a company, if they want to expand the business, and get more profits. They should however not drop on their core fanbase, because the market that they are trying to reach is already filled with many companies, and the company may land hard on their bottom line, if they'll lose once loyal customers and will not get enough of new ones.
Let's be honest. RPG fans are more often loyal than TPS/FPS fans. It's easier to recreate a shooter than deliver a good RP experience.
Regarding ME3 I can only hope, that it is a troll rage at the metacritic boards. I guess I'll see that myself in 3 days.

Everything in that review is either incorrect or gives no examples to even attempt to make a salient point. That was a horrible review and actually a very good example of why user reviews should be ignored.StarflameLT wrote...
If you actually looked at what people wrote in the comments with 0s, 1s and such.. You can see that they have some valid points. While perhaps giving a 0 is not the best option, from what I read if ME2 was upwards of 90, ME3 (optimistically) could only be considered as just above 80 at best, so people find ways to express their dissatisfaction...

I'm not sure what the terms and conditions are in metacritic, but I'm sure not everyone would appreciate spoilers. And to be honest I'd like to see a thread where all of those points are denied with examples, as i've only seen the opposite... to my great distress

Honestly, from what I've seen, Mass Effect 3 isn't a 0 game. The game goes into the console/pc and WORKS. 0's are really only games that are literally unplayable. However, those giving Mass Effect 3 10s without explanation should also be seen as unreasonable, I've heard enough evidence that ME3 isn't a "perfect" game.
All in all, I would highly recommend taking user scores with a grain of salt. Most gamers are unable to review games in non polarizing terms; a few errors separating the game from their sky-high expectations is apparently worth a 0. For most, games either are the epitome of failure or the greatest game of all time.
OT: I'm happy to see the game getting good professional reviews, and I'm getting my copy tomorrow

Destroctoid gave it 8.5. Another pro site gave it an 8/10. Those reviewers found problems with the game that they couldn't reconcile, and so they docked marks from the score. But those reviewers were also able to properly and thoughtfully look at the rest of the game and what it did right, and also took that into consideration. That's why they gave the marks they gave.
Someone who gives a game a 0 score, or a 1,2,3,4,or 10s, what have you, aren't serious. They're not weighing the good and the bad. They're just trolling. That's why Metacritic User scores have lost their credibility, and lost it a long time ago.
Learn to tell the difference between someone being serious with their review scores and a troll, please. It's not that hard to tell.

You sound like you've never read an actual review; it's very possible to go into some detail about a games shortcomings without spoiling anything. That user "review" was just some child spamming "this sucks, that sucks, this sucks too, that suck, that sucks" with nothing behind it.StarflameLT wrote...

I've honestly yet to see a real problem weighted against this game. Just that some people had to recreate their characters face (travesty) some people didn't like the ending (outrage!) and the day 1 DLC wasn't free (those monsters!). Are you going to be the first to make a real point and back it up. I'd love to hear it before I get out of work and buy the game.

Yea, I don't blame them for disregarding most of it. The trolls critiquiing this game have earned the lack of respect their opinions are getting.

Make up your own damn mind, you don't have to buy the game, base your opinions on the demo and then if you like it buy the game and see whether you enjoy it. I didn't enjoy the demo, so I didn't buy the game. Simples.

maybe it isn't just trolling and people are genuinely pissed about how the game turned out... just because people over react in a review doesn't mean they are trolling

Posté 06 mars 2012 - 09:47
Trolling and overreacting aren't too different in that they're both pretty much useless as feedback. If you're going to try to oversell your opinions with a completely inane score you're going to get ignored. If people think they have valid complaints they need to be smarter about it.maybe it isn't just trolling and people are genuinely pissed about how the game turned out... just because people over react in a review doesn't mean they are trolling
