I've been trying to get my game to work
for six solid hours now, and that's after the 2 hours I put in last
night after I patiently waited at the midnight release to finally get my
hands on this game. I'd like to think someone is working on the
problem.

I'm pretty sure I saw you in another thread about the same issue. Just in case you didn't notice:

Thanks Sterlo - I am going to add this info to our investigation.

I'm skeptical that they're actually going to have anything useful to say
about the problem but I'd advise you to just try and wait for a while
and see if they have anything to say about it.

http://social.biowar...4/index/9654490 [Thread I was referring to.]

I talked to EA support and they basically had me do everything that everybody mentioned, and still nothing. The guy that I talked to said that this has become a major problem for them, and it sounds like they arent even sure what is going on. Its always funny and sad to hear a customer support tech say "well this is awkard." when after about the fifth time the game hasnt started. I am just gonna wait now, and accept the fact that I can't play ME3 for the time being and see if they finally figure out what the problem is. It is really the only thing I can do at the moment.

Amen.

I do not know if mine plays yet(at work and finally got it to the menu thru remote desktop/vpn). As long as they are working on win7 64bit fix, I am ok. I can wait a few more days.

Finally fixed it. I dug through my event viewer, then went back through every post I could find on any site that had even a shred of information. Turns out that when the game first starts up after installation, the ME3 exe goes straight to an activation exe to determine your date vs. the activation date of the game.

My AVG Anti-Virus decided that this was a threat and was blocking every single attempt without notifying me. I set AVG to ignore the anti-virus condition long enough to try to run the game again, and voila! I went straight to the date activation screen, passed it, and got a 40M update from Origin to my game. Then I had to start ME3 one more time, the date activation passed, and the game opened for me.

I sure hope this helps someone out there so they don't end up spending all the time that I spent trying to track down this problem. Good luck to everyone.

Uh I have AVG, and even though it is turned off at the moment I am gonna try this and see what happens. Hopefully it works. But even if it doesnt thanks for the info. I might just reinstall the game again and see if that will fix it if AVG is deactivated.

P.S Never thought I would miss steam.

I just went back and uninstalled AVG then did a double check to make sure my firewall wasn't doing anything to block it to no avail. This is the only game I've ever bought on the PC to have this problem.

I've been able to get the game to launch by closing origin and enabling xp compatibility mode for me3. For whatever reason, the game won't launch with origin already running.

I've tried everything suggested and still nothing like many others. =| I'm pretty sure that it has to do with the stupid activation.exe not working correctly.

I'm getting this same problem. No matter whether I start ME3 in Origin or with Origin closed, it just fails to start properly. Shutting off antivirus programs doesn't seem to do anything, either.

I really hope this issue gets looked at soon.

I am having similar problems.  I am running Windows Vista 64-bit.  I cannot get the game to launch.  It shows the "launch" screen, then nothing.  It just disappears.  I have tried to run the game from origin, from the shortcut and from the .exe.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the origin client and game twice.  I have repaired the game multiple times.  When i update the game, it actually allows to update multiple times as if it doesn't take.  When I launch from the .exe file I get to the release time verification screen and click agree, but that just gets me to the launch window and then nothing.  I can revisit the release time verification screen multiple times as well.  Any suggestions?

I never even make it to the verification screen myself. Mouse pointer goes "busy" for about 10sec. after launch then nothing happens. Same result when launched with origin, .exe, and .exe without orgin running. It never shows up in tasks, and it will show up for about 2sec. in processes before going away. I've uninstalled origin 6 times at this point, and uninstalled/re-installed 3 times, and repaired/updated multiple times. Update tells me "is up to date". Admin mode and compatiablity modes also been used with every instance. (Tried several versions of windows with compatablity modes.)

This is unacceptable! All skeptics called it when they said Origin was going to be a piece of siht. I've had nothing but trouble with it. I can't even install DirectX with my razor mouse installed.

Someone tech savvy has to figure this out. I've tried everything about and still get the same results as everyone else.

Reks, this is going to sound all sorts of silly, but humor me, here: when you try to launch ME3 (either through Origin or sans-Origin) after repairing the installation, does the screen go dark and a Windows Security pop-up asking you "yes" or "no" to allow the program to be run? If this screen shows up, have you tried clicking on "no," navigating to the install folder, and running the executable at that time? I only ask because for some very strange reason, this is the only chain of events that actually led to me being able to run the game.

I read your reply in another thread about that and was going to try when I cooled off a little. Right now I'm on the verge of breaking something. Haha. I will see after a calming shower. I'm only angry cause I took this day off just for this...and my next day off is a week from Saturday. =|

EDIT: Attempted it with and without Origin, no luck.

Well, doesn't that just beat the drums.

I've tried *everything* this past day; and when I finally decided I had nothing to lose by humouring you; I tried this, and.. it worked.

Anyone else having endless problems should try this; and post here if it also works for you -

Just to make it clear; I:
1) re-applied the 40 mb update;
2) made sure that origin was NOT running as administrator
3) Ran ME3 from within origin
4) When the windows security prompt poppod up, I answered 'NO'
5) Exited orgin.
6) Navigated to the ME3 install directory/binaries/win32/
7) Ran the 'MassEffect3.exe' file from within this directory
8) said 'YES' this time the windows security prompt came up; and...

The date check appeared (first time), activated, origin started up, and ME3 ran successfully.

Prior to this; I'd tried all the different compatibility modes; admin modes; uninstall/reinstall origin (3 times), repaired the ME3 installation; applied update ME3 patch (countless times), updated gfx drivers; restarted windows - And none of these helped.

As weird as this situation sounds, running ME3 for activation without origin seemed to do the trick

Huge thanks Ein!

Good job for finding a solution, unfortunately for me it didn't work. Hate it when others find a solution and it doesn't work on your end...

That didn't work for me either. BioWare/Origin have to get there siht together and fix this on their end.

Tried doing the pattern again after a fresh reinstall. Still no luck. I guess we're just going to have to wait for a real solution. EA has done a decent job of devouring Bioware it seems. Back to steam games and bargain bin items for me.

Hobbes, definitely agree with you. It seems like there are a slew of different issues that are causing this error. Some people got away with just reinstalling Origin, others just had to check for an update. From the sounds of things, there is no Magic Bullet to fixing the error. If there's one thing the webcomic The Trenches has taught me, though, is that I would love to see the QA tester logs and the responses to them. Might make for an interesting read.

Sounds like I have the same problem as everyone else. This might put a bullet in the head for PC gaming for me, headaches like this should not happen.

I've been watching this thread since 1 am and I still can't find a god damned solution, this is just pathetic.

Click to play ME3 in origin, cursor says busy, Origin says Playing Mass Effect 3... for 4 seconds and then cursor and origin goes back to normal. Nothing happens! At all, not a damned thing, un-/re-installed Origin at east 5 times now and un-/re-installed ME3 itself twice.

Anyone had any similar shenanigans?

Game stopped working for me. Worked fine last night, but today it reliably crashes at the beginning of the animation with the omni tool. Then, if i check /repair the game, it downloads the 40.1mb patch. Starting it up again after this brings of the release date verifier again. It passes, the game just starts, and crash at the omni tool again. Repeat ad infinitum.

Win7 64 bit, i72600k, 16gb ram, gtx580, latest drivers. Ran a good 3-4 hours last night no probs.

I've pretty much tried everything suggested or anything I could find that could possibly fix this problem, but sadly nothing seems to be working. Uninstalled and reinstalled Origin/ME3 a few times, tested every compatability mode and running in admin. Same problem though, I hit launch, and I get either on problem or the other. The first problem I get, Origin says my game launched but nothing happens at all. If that doesn't happen, I will try to launch the game and it automatically says it has stopped working. I guess it was too much to ask for when I asked for a game that worked on launch day.

I've just tired all the most recent recommendations and still made no progress. I spent 80 dollars of my hard earned money for the "Digital Deluxe" edition of the game with the intention of playing it on the specified release date not a week later or whenever the support team decides to wake up and do their job. I don't really see any good excuse for this problem this is the exact reason why products should be thoroughly tested before they're released to the public.

I don't mean to come across as ignorant but I'm just upset that I'm having this many problems with a game that I've already paid for in full with no hope of a refund. /rant. Yes I feel better now.

I'm a tech savvy software engineer, have done everything suggested in all the posts and still can't get the freakin game to run.  It starts ME3, I hear about 1.5 seconds of music, screen goes black, then the game crashes, with Win 7 64-bit trying to find a problem.

This is unbelievable, I never had an issue with ME1 or 2 and now after waiting since Friday, I can't getthe dang game to run.

I just read on gamepur.com that Origin is telling people they can't play the game because the release date is March 8th. Well then, please explain why I was able to go to EBgames in person in store, and BUY the fcuking game!
This is an example them releasing a bad product such as Origin and coming up with lies and excuses.
