I took the advice from the person I was chatting with from EA support and tried the following:
Sudheer: (1)Clear cache of your web browser.
Sudheer: (2)Delete temporary files from the PC
Sudheer: by run "%temp%"
Sudheer: (3)
Sudheer: Please try running your system using the Windows clean boot option. That way you would be able to locate any program that might be interfering with the game. The instructions for clean booting your operating system can be found at the below given link: - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Sudheer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Sudheer: Please try running the game using admin access. For this please right click on your game’s shortcut available on your desktop and choose the “Run as Administrator” option.

Big surprise.... didn't work. I'm done with this. I just dedicated almost my entire day to resolving this issue I've done it all of this:
- Made sure my firewall wasn't blocking it.
- Made sure my anti-virus stuff was all off.
- Reinstalled the game.
- Repaired the game and ran it as admin.
- Tried the PhysX update
- Looked under applications in event viewer and wasn't able to find anything notable relating to Mass Effect 3
- Sat around and thought about how bad I was just ****ed out of my 80 USD.
- Didn't even bother to study for my AP Chem exam due to pure anger and determination to get this to work.

Meanwhile at EA and Bioware.............

Did you try the Physx driver update?

I gave up and uninstalled ME3, and redownloading overnight... Hopefully it will work tomorrow.

Goodnight to all my fellow broken heart fans who haven't even seen the loading screen yet.

Also after some talking with a former EA employee who shall not go named, he mentioned that AVG anti virus can really screw up the installation process WITHOUT telling you. Seeing how I already had microsoft security essentials, I uninstalled AVG and the clicked repair install on my mass effect 3. The repair has not finished yet, which is a VERY promising sign. Every other time I repaired install when I had AVG still on the repair only took 10 minutes or so, now it has been around 25 minutes and the repair is only at 72 percent complete. I will keep you all informed on this, personally I hope for the best but expect the worse. But as I have said very promising.

And it didn't work! Seriously EA get your sh!t together and fix this, please.:crying:

I just resolved an issue where the game would crash at startup, and repair kept downloading the 40mb file, just to crash again at startup.

Uninstalling/reinstalling did not help, until i also manually removed the leftover mass effect 3 folder (in the my documents/bioware/mass effect 3 area) that still sits there with the save data. Then reinstalled and problem is gone. Sheesh.

This is a problem with origin that spans several games, and has no clear cause, because I know of people with similar hardware/software builds as I have that run into no problem whatsoever.

I am running Windows Vista and if you want to read the probs I was having, I posted them on page 2 of this post. Last night I disabled User Access Controls through the control panel and was able to start and play the game. SO far so good. Hope this can help some people.

THIS. 32/64 bit systems, Vista / Win 7, high end / mid range computers, laptops, PCs. I've done extensive work in trying to get my copy of Fifa to work, there isn't one thing I can narrow it down to. My legal Origin Fifa 12 refuses to work and has never even reached the splash screen. My pirated copy? Works perfectly. Same issue with ME3, I'm sure if I pirated ME3 it would work. I've reinstalled Windows and neither game works. I'm at an absolutely loss. The EA/Origin support staff have stopped responding to me regarding Fifa, maybe the ME community will have more luck in forcing an answer from Bioware/Origin.

I know this won't be convenient and I begin by saying that it's an outrage that I had to go this far to get this game working but hey, it worked so I'll post it just in case someone else has the resources I had. I met multiple hurdles while trying to get ME3 to install prior to the release date. The original Amazon double download thing was taxing on my bandwidth but I got over it (the fact that you download 10 gigs of data then run the installer just to have origin tell you to download all that data again is insane). Then the normal hiccups that everyone is experiencing led to me having to trick origin into thinking ME3 was installed and doing a repair which got me to the release date check and happy until launch time. At launch I was faced with an "invalid key (Chinese characters) dll missing" error that no amount of uninstalling/reinstalling of origin or the game data was able to fix. After combing the bioware forums and seeing a patern with reference to origin I did the following.
1) removed CD drive and replaced it with a 5th hard drive
2) installed Windows 7 Ultimate x32 on new HDD
3) Installed the most recent video drivers (I did notice that on my x64 setup some of the components of the drivers weren't installing correctly and directx was acting up, possibly causing the problem)
4) installed origin
5) copied game files from old windows drive
6) installed game from origin (did nothing but after a while gave me an EA screen saying I'd need to restart for changes to take effect)
7) rebooted and prayed
8) started the game and played for about 6 hours
this machine exists in it's present state of no malware protection and no updates as it will until I finish this game. This is completely insane that it took all this to get to play a game I actually went through the trouble of paying for.

I've tried a few new things now with still no success.
- Made sure ALL my drivers were up to date.
- Disabled UAC to make sure it wouldn't get in the way of anything.
- Looked for patches and ran another repair.

I'm honestly appalled by how little they seem to care about this issue. It's been over 24 hours now and still no official word from EA or Bioware regarding this problem. I'm just going to have to come to terms with the fact that I just wasted my money on something I'll probably never be able to play due to the ignorance of both EA and Bioware. Hopefully that doesn't count as an "attack" on the staff but it's just simply how I feel about them now.

If it is an attack, they deserve it.

You bought a product that you are unable to use because it has either been intentionally or inadvertently crippled. Sounds like possible fraud to me.

For people getting the ''not compatable with your version of windows'' screen when launching the game, try opening Origin in Admin mod! Worked for me.

I wish I was getting an error message at all. I am not.

If I had an error message, I could at least start looking in a partifular direction for a sollution. As it is, the game just simply doesn't initialize. MassEffect3.exe briefly pops up (about 2-3 seconds) in the Processes list in Task Manager becore simply disappearing with no error message.

Since I have a few errands to run I'm going to reinstall the game once more and make some attempts to get it running. If I can't I'm going to contact EA support one more time and give them a list of everything I've done so far to try and correct this. I'm amazed that the only problems getting any real attention are the day one DLC related ones despite the fact that there are people who still can't even manage to get past their desktop to even run the game. I'm not trying to say that one problem is more significant than the other but what I am saying is that we at least deserve a statement acknowledging the issue.

Well I let them know on twitter, was originally linked to help.ea.com, but when they still couldn't help me there, I tweeted them again, and got talking with them. Linked them this forum thread, so they at least know that something's going on.

Still no word even acknowledging the problem from EA/Bioware? Ugg... I hope these issues with origin soils their rep even more. Glad the pirates at least get to enjoy the game.

Add me to the list! Now I remember why I had boycotted EA. (...but obviously too spineless to stick to that boycott!)

I bought ME3 through Origin and now I feel so stupid. People warned me not to use Origin but I didn't listen. Now I know why.

Anyway, does anyone get "MassEffect3_activation.exe has encountered a problem and need to close. Sorry for the inconvenience" and then the message asked you whether you want to send the error to microsoft or not (send/ don't send). This has persisted even after
                                            - reinstallin ME3
                                            - Reinstalling ME 3
                                             - firewall & antivirus.
                                            - updates

And the problem is still there. I can't believe this.

Nope I don't get anything relating to the activation.exe.

"Thank You! An EA Advisor will contact you shortly."

Never got a call back.

Here's my workaround (at least for the 64bit problem). Still worth trying, eh?
