I hope it isn't.. Orlais.. bleh. Fake French accents? No ty.

As long as they're like Leliana's and not like Marjolaine's, I wouldn't mind a bit.

Not even like Leliana's. I mean, it's amazing how it's so easy to do a British accent and yet they can't pull off French. I look at Assassin's Creed 2 as a good example of voice-acting in a foreign accent while making it all believable and not stand out. This is why I like a qunari accent more than any other accent because it doesn't stand out(probably because it sounds so American(referring mainly to Armaas)). I'd rather hear them speak than listen to some over-exaggerated(or sometimes under-exaggerated) French/Orlesian accents, you know what I mean?

This. Maybe I'm just weird but I like the Orlesian's voice actors.

Also, to whoever said that Orlesian in Denerim Market was a tart...when did we start calling rape victims tarts?<_<

I would guess Orlais or the High Marches will be the next setting. Frankly, most of Ferelden is pretty boring, other than the history. The Frostbacks/Deep Roads are a neat setting, but to me the rest of Ferelden is like having an adventure in Nebraska. Woo hoo.

I've noticed a trend where people seem to think authentic accents are "fake."

I really Love the premise of this Thread. It's pretty damn thought pervoking. Also, the fact that BioWare basically *Hid* this little Gem in the Circle Tower Level gives weight to the idea that this could very well be a preview of the direction the Saga it set to go. Let's hope that the upcoming EA press event at E3 will feature, at the least, a Cinematic Trailer akin to Sacred Ashes for Dragon Age 2, if that little slip with got with Awakening was Truly for DA and not for something else entirely.

As to the point of the VA's, I can understand why people keep thinking Leliana's VA is *faking* an accent; because she just might be, to an extent. The VA is French Born, but grew up in England; as such, she has more of a British inflection in her accent while the French tenor is still there. It's usualy the case with men and women of Middle-Eastern, Indian, or other European decents who spent the majority of thier childhood in Great Britain. She may have been trying to vocus on her subdued French tones all the while trying to keep the British inflection out of her voice; however, sensitive ears can still hear the English tone, especially when she says something with an 'ver' at the close. A Great example would be the conversation she has with Shale:

"You're like my big Brother...or Sister...or Whatever!"

(Above) Anytime you hear her say anything that closes with 'ver' her British inflection natutally makes it sound like 'va' instead of the more Westernized 'ver'. So, aside from the VA for Isolde, I don't think we've really heard alot of Pure French accents in DA thus far. (Pause) Yikes. Me-thinks Isolde was a bad example. "Tegaaaaan!"

That sounds like a pun on Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species"

I kinda like this possibility

Forest Fall: Truth and Legend in the Search for Arlathan
-Survivors? poppycock!

This one is the most interesting to me because the Magi of Arlathan practiced Blood Magic and some worshipped the Old Dragon Gods. Once the nation crumbled and they lost the Blood Magic, all the sudden they started with the 'quickening' business. Coincidence? Meeebe, meeebe not.

 1) Lost Countenance: Ferelden to Orlesian Phrase Book
- "Must not offend the potential Landlords."

I would agree that this is most likely reference to Awakenings (only strengthened by using the word "potential" to signify that it may be an Orlesian or someone else [i.e. the Hero of Ferelden]), but I think ruling out that it may be a part of DA 2 is a bit rash. On the other hand, I'm really glad that people stopped the bantering back-and-forth about Orlais. Return to Ostagar seemed to hint that the two countries were coming close to peace, and if Fereldan allowed an Orlesian to become the Lord of one of the Arlings, I doubt it to be a possibility.

2) Raising Spirits: Offsprings and the Fade
- "Terrible two's indeed!"

The first thing that came to mind when I say this was the same Bhaalspa... I mean Darkspawn/Old God Morrigan child idea everyone else on the planet had, and I think that that is still a more likely explanation than the Mother/Architect connection. However, ran across something somewhat interesting when looking up some info on BioWare that is related to the prediction that the "terrible two's" note may mean a 2011 release (look at the last two titles in the games section and their assumed release dates).

3) Forest Fall: Truth and Legend in the Search for Arlathan
- "Survivors? poppycock!"

Now this one really interests me. I think that this isn't so much a reference to setting as it is to plot. The Codex Entry Arlathan: Part Two, which covers the fall of Arlathan, talks about the Elves say that "The Tevinter magisters used their great destructive power to force the very ground to swallow Arlathan whole..." as well as talking about the elves being abandoned by their "ancient gods." This brought three thoughts to my mind:

a) Hey! The word "ancient" and "old" have the same basic meaning! So does that mean the ancient gods of the elves that were supposedly trapped by Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf may somehow be connected to the Darkspawn's obsession with old gods and the Blight?

B) Arlathan seems to have "disappeared" according to this codex, and since we have seen and heard of the Tevinter's magical prowess in accessing the Fade, it may be possible that Arlathan was sent into the Fade, and if you really want to stretch it and throw out the teachings of the Chantry, it could even be the Black City, and all who were still in the city, Tevinter and elf alike, became the first of the Darkspawn.

c) The Arl's mention of "survivors" is no doubt connected to the city. If you go off the loose idea that Arlathan is the Black City, he could be talking about people that survived the moving of the city from Thedas to the Fade and then became the first Darkspawn, or it may even mean that some of the people who went into the Fade managed to avoid becoming Darkspawn. However, it could also mean that there may be elves that maintained their immortality, which is stated in Arlathan: Part One to have ended when the elves first made contact with humans.

To wrap up the enormous analysis above, I'm thinking that Dragon Age 2 will involve whoever these "survivors" are as a major element of the story, and perhaps the center of it if it's somehow connected to Morrigan's Bhaa...er, Darkspawn god child, which most people have implied will be at the base of it.

4) The Origin of Theses: Knowing more than Everyone without Looking Like a Jackass
- "Never get time to read this. Maybe there's a stage play?"

Part of this definitely has to be poking fun at all of us as we sit here trying to crack the code of the great prophet Foreshadow, but I think there's something a bit deeper here. I'm not saying it's anywhere as insightful as the other entries, but could it be be hinting that maybe there's a  play at some point in the game or other obscure reference to a little joke or gag they plan to include? However, for all we know it could hold the key to the entire game. Or the key to the meaning of life. Who knows? If we did, we'd probably be selling it to whichever game news company paid us the most instead of discussing it on a forum.

Does anyone think that Old Arl F's notes still apply to anything? What with the fact that we know DA2 takes place in the Free Marches and the quanri retconning and the like?

My money's on "we took/were forced into a new direction" but I'm curious to see what others think.

I know its been discussed before, but I cant seem to find any threads about it, so here we go.

In case you don't know, the notes of arl foreshadow are an easter egg you can find by performing all three rituals in the library of the circle tower together after you perform them individually. Arl Foreshadow appears and then goes away, but not before you can pickpocket him for this codex entry...

Raising spirits: Offspring and the Fade

Forest Fall: Truth and Legend in the Search for Arlathan
-Survivors? poppycock!

1. Seems pretty clear to me. Suggests that the next game will take place, at least in part, in Orlais. Any comments?

2. Seems as clear as the first, sounds awefully like Morrigan's kid. I suppose this only applies if you agree to sleep with her.

3. Arlathan is the capital of the original homeland of the elves. It is located somewhere in a great forest in or around the tevinter imperium. Does this mean the next game will take place there too? Or what? Anyone know anything more?

4. Not sure here. Unless its a jab at people trying to decipher these notes. Or. Idk. Hard to say. Any ideas?

Number 4 is clearly a reference to Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species."

Mass Effect 2 spoilers related to Collectors... Beware!

Valrac, as much as I love your ideas, and the thought you've put into them - that section above, I hope that's not true, as it seems too familiar to Mass Effect's story with the Protheans/Collectors.

Personally, I think it's all a joke - it might actually hint at future (only three months/ten weeks now until we can definitely confirm) developments (even if, as someone else said, they were just on the drawing board and since changed), but I think its main purpose was as an easter egg/reference to Baldur's Gate.

As much as I'd love to see Morrigan and/or her 'son' reapper, I'd like to think they save that for a third game - actually sorta how they did for Mass Effect and the Reapers (with the Collectors being the main concern in Mass Effect 2).
