1)
Lost Countenance: Ferelden to Orlesian Phrase Book
- "Must not offend the potential Landlords."
I would agree that this is most likely reference to
Awakenings (only strengthened by using the word "potential" to signify that it may be an Orlesian or someone else [i.e. the Hero of Ferelden]), but I think ruling out that it may be a part of DA 2 is a bit rash. On the other hand, I'm really glad that people stopped the bantering back-and-forth about Orlais.
Return to Ostagar seemed to hint that the two countries were
coming close to peace, and if Fereldan allowed an Orlesian to become the Lord of one of the Arlings, I doubt it to be a possibility.
2) Raising Spirits: Offsprings and the Fade
- "Terrible two's indeed!"
The first thing that came to mind when I say this was the same Bhaalspa... I mean Darkspawn/Old God Morrigan child idea everyone else on the planet had, and I think that that is still a more likely explanation than the Mother/Architect connection. However, ran across something somewhat interesting when looking up some info on BioWare that is related to the prediction that the "terrible two's" note may mean a
2011 release (look at the last two titles in the games section and their assumed release dates).
3) Forest Fall: Truth and Legend in the Search for Arlathan
- "Survivors? poppycock!"
Now this one really interests me. I think that this isn't so much a reference to setting as it is to plot. The Codex Entry
Arlathan: Part Two, which covers the fall of Arlathan, talks about the Elves say that "The Tevinter magisters used their great destructive power to force the very ground to swallow Arlathan whole..." as well as talking about the elves being abandoned by their "ancient gods." This brought three thoughts to my mind:
a) Hey! The word "ancient" and "old" have the same basic meaning! So does that mean the ancient gods of the elves that were supposedly trapped by Fen'Harel, the Dread Wolf may somehow be connected to the Darkspawn's obsession with old gods and the Blight?

Arlathan seems to have "disappeared" according to this codex, and since we have seen and heard of the Tevinter's magical prowess in accessing the Fade, it may be possible that Arlathan was sent into the Fade, and if you really want to stretch it and throw out the teachings of the Chantry, it could even be the Black City, and all who were still in the city, Tevinter and elf alike, became the first of the Darkspawn.
c) The Arl's mention of "survivors" is no doubt connected to the city. If you go off the loose idea that Arlathan is the Black City, he could be talking about people that survived the moving of the city from Thedas to the Fade and then became the first Darkspawn, or it may even mean that some of the people who went into the Fade managed to avoid becoming Darkspawn. However, it could also mean that there may be elves that maintained their immortality, which is stated in
Arlathan: Part One to have ended when the elves first made contact with humans.
To wrap up the enormous analysis above, I'm thinking that Dragon Age 2 will involve whoever these "survivors" are as a major element of the story, and perhaps the center of it if it's somehow connected to Morrigan's Bhaa...er, Darkspawn god child, which most people have implied will be at the base of it.
4) The Origin of Theses: Knowing more than Everyone without Looking Like a Jackass
- "Never get time to read this. Maybe there's a stage play?"
Part of this definitely has to be poking fun at all of us as we sit here trying to crack the code of the great prophet Foreshadow, but I think there's something a bit deeper here. I'm not saying it's anywhere as insightful as the other entries, but could it be be hinting that maybe there's a play at some point in the game or other obscure reference to a little joke or gag they plan to include? However, for all we know it could hold the key to the entire game. Or the key to the meaning of life. Who knows? If we did, we'd probably be selling it to whichever game news company paid us the most instead of discussing it on a forum.
