Everybody say Skyrim is good and even say the best game ever created...i have watched on You Tube Skyrim gameplay, reading FAQs and guides, reading Skyrim-wiki...i still don't know what to say, because i don't play it yet.

But what i see by far is a guy/girl walking around, meet monster then fight it, walking around again, meet one or two bandit and fight it, then walking around again, then meet a wolf, kill it, walking around again...sometimes try to catch a fish....

The game is tempting because of the graphic, but i use old computer, even if i buy it sure i will not experience like what i see on You Tube, but graphic is not the main issue, the issue is, is Skyrim is so good as everybody claim? It seems to me like the best way to waste my time...

What do you guys think?

If you like games with open worlds, you'd probably like Skyrim but if you like games with good story-telling, choices and consequences in the plot and good memorable characters, you probably won't like Skyrim or any other TES game for that matter. Skyrim is also filled with tons of bugs and many are game killing, though you could probably find some patch which fixes the worst bugs.

It all comes down to preference. I'm personally never touching anything from Bethesda again. Their games look all good when they first come out but their beautiful music, open worlds and the graphics are just disguises for (IMO) trash.

Combat in all TES games suck. The only thing TES has going for it is exploration and frankly, exploring boring caves with nothing unique in isn't my idea of fun and discovery. Morrowind was okay with exploration as caves and ruins had different treasure in and you didn't know what to expect but it all went to hell with Oblivion.

It's down to preference I guess. Some people enjoy Skyrim, some people don't. Don't buy it simply because of the graphics and if your machine is old, it probably wouldn't run it.

No.  It's far better.   It's the kind of game that will make you lose sleep, and work, and friends.  It's the kind of game  that you'll start at 7pm, then look up  a few minutes later and realize it's tomorrow already and you just lost 10 hours of your life somehow.

But it's not for everyone.  Go into it seeking  Bioware-level over-arching storytelling, cinematics and  fleshed-out  NPCs and you'll hate it  for what its not.  Although, contrary to popular myth, there's some rather *GOOD* story-telling to be found in Skyrim.  Just not the main plot.    I'd put the Dark Brotherhood questline up against any story bioware's written in the last 5 years.

The game is about limitless freedom.  There's not a rail to found in the entire thing.  Sit down one day and decide that you want to play as a wanderer who goes from town to town solving the common-folk's problems and you know what?  The game will cater to your whim so perfectly, that you'll swear that's what the entire plot was really about.

Likewise, go into the game with the mindset of an explorer who wants to do nothing but delve into ancient crypts and  hidden caves to try and discover something the world has long forgotten... and again, the game wil cater to this mindset so well you'll think its the intended plot.    Or go into the game with the intention of playing a hero who saves the world from a growing menace that threatens it... and... voila,  the game caters to this story in your head.  You'll, again, swear it's the plot.

Or say:  F**k it.  I'm gonna play as a menace to society myself.  I'll go everywhere, steal  things from people, kill people, pick fights, cause a ruckas, sow chaos, and pretty much make the world a nasty place to live in.  And the game will let you succeed.  You'll swear that the game was specifically designed to be played the way you just played it.

But the game is more than that.  A lot more.  There's a 750+ page thread on this forum about it.  Some of the discussion will give you a pretty good Idea of what the game has to offer.  I personally rank it up  there with DA:O and the BG series as  among the best games I've ever played.

Good game but nothing spectacular. Don't know why but i got bored of it very very fast, maybe because of very shallow character system, boring environments (mountains and ice/snow is all you will see) and the story ... well I don't like nordic mythology/viking stories etc.

If you like this kind of gameplay (as described Yrkoon's post) I'll say go for TES4 Oblivion.
It has more colorful and veried surroundings, much deeper and complex character system and imo better story .

+ Oblivion will be much more "friendly" to your old rig ;)

Oblivion does not have more varied environments. It's a good game, but Skyrim is better. They put a lot of variety in the landscape considering that it all had to be Nordic inspired. You have salt marshes, tundra, birch forest and pine forest, high mountains and more pastoral stuff like in Oblivion, and all of the dungeons are hand drawn rather than copy pasted.

A lot of the storytelling is just not as obvious as splashy cutscenes. It's in small details and in the in-game books. Some people don't like this more subtle method of storytelling. Doesn't mean it isn't there.

As for specs, you just need to look up the minimum and recommended requirements and see if your rig matches up. You might not be able to get the ultra high settings or use the high res pack, but the game is beautiful even at medium graphics that the consoles can handle.

It's a decent game. It has a large world to explore and you don't have to follow the main storyline. You can just do sidequests, hunt dragons, explore, work on a specific skill, etc.

Try it.

It's a good game but if you've played Oblivion or even Morrowind don't expect much innovation on it. I have to be honest; for all it's good exploration and content it just felt like an updated Oblivion to me, there was very little new to the game to enjoy. I think Bethesda have relied a bit too much on the gaming community and mods to improve the game for Skyrim, everything I did on console got a bit tiring and stale after around 20 hrs of gameplay.

If your computer can run it then sure give it a shot, maybe download a mod you might be interested in.

I've spent over 100 hours playing this game and guess what? I'm still not getting tired of it. The good thing about Skyrim is that wherever you go or whatever you do, you'll always be surprised at the things you encounter. I swear that Dragon Age: Origins' world felt SO incredibly small after having played Skyrim...There's lots of things to do: quests (both minor and main ones), beating dragons, collecting Shouts, exploring dungeons, work on your skills, upgrading your armour, etc...Or you can settle down in one of the houses in the major cities and take it easy. You can just as well go on the bad path and rob every house, kill every commoner, cause chaos in villages with spells, flee from the guards afterwards, etc... I assure you, every euro I spent on this game was well worth it. It's one of the best games I've played thus far. I felt so free when playing Skyrim too. I can be a badass heavy armoured dual wielding mage just fine. Give it a chance, OP. :)

I think it is the first game where I actually felt like I was playing an adventurer instead of a tourist. You can get on the game's rails and go sightseeing in terms of plots or locales. Or you can go wander off and see what kind of things you get yourself into.

I've got about 160 hrs logged on my first character, and I'm still not done with the game.

It's pretty awesome. I played for over 100 hours and still haven't gotten tired of it. As soon as ME3 is done with I shall be returning to Skyrim.

It is a great game for character creation and freedom of play. The mechanics for eating, cooking, resting, and crafting are all included; all optional. I cannot recall ever selecting a perk to make potions, while others have entire Dragonborn characters based on Alchemy.

The writing is not up to the Bioware standards, IMO. That said, there are some great storylines; not always the best dialogue. There are some great characters, but the dialogue may not always be plentiful.

While I do not think it is perfect, it is my first sandbox game to have occupied 800+ hrs of my time. And that is the best sort of recommendation I can offer someone as far as entertainment. Only a couple of other games have had this kind of longevity, and I still play all of them.

P.S. Archery and Stealth (ie; Sneak) rock my sandbox world! Image IPB

Wow, after reading all the comments, it is hard to make a decision lols

I think my computer can run it, i plan to upgrade RAM, i just install the latest upgrade for my graphic card driver, even though i think it just for low or maybe medium setting, my computer is an ancient Rakatan computer from KotOR you know lols, but it can run DA:O fairly

But for me graphic is not primary concern, it is the game play, reading all comments, and watching on you Tube, i still don't get what the game is all about...a quest of hunting dragons and fighting a great dragon in the end? Kill as many monsters like Diablo? It is acceptable if it is like Diablo

i like the concept, where we can escape reality and get into the game, building our own character, skills, talents, and live like we live in the real world, sleeping, eating, cooking, socialize with pixel peoples, get married, buying house, ect ect ect...but i don't know what the game is about.

all i hear is "the game is good..."

Edit : I played The Sims before, if it is like The Sims, i am sure will get bored for the never ending story and no conclusion....

The game has several storylines; the Main quest is presented at the origin of your PC, but you only follow it if you wish. This is much the same as the other faction quets; persuing them is all optional.

The Main tale concerns the return of Dragons to Skyrim, and the foreboding nature of what this means in Nordic prophecy.

@OP: Here's a summary of the game I copied from Wikipedia...Maybe that'll give you a clearer view on what the game's all about. :)

"The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an action role-playing open world video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls action role-playing video game series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Skyrim was released on November 11, 2011 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Skyrim's main story revolves around the player character's efforts to defeat Alduin, a Dragon god who is prophesied to destroy the world. Set two hundred years after Oblivion, the game takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim, upon the continent of Tamriel, and the planet of Nirn. The open world gameplay of the Elder Scrolls series returns in Skyrim; the player can explore the land at will and ignore or postpone the main quest indefinitely. Skyrim has received universal acclaim from critics and was a commercial success as well, shipping over 7 million copies to retailers within the first week of release."

There's currently a war going on in Skyrim mainly caused by the Thalmor (from what I know, they're a particular race of Elves) who refuse to believe that Talos is actually a god. They think he was merely a mortal man seen as a hero in the eyes of the public and refuse to see him as a god, while the Nords (natives of Skyrim) believe Talos was a man who actually descended on godhood because of all his noble deeds. Thus, a war breaks out between the Imperials (Nords on the side of the Thalmor) and the Stormcloaks (a rebel faction who supports the traditional values of Skyrim). Your character is the Dragonborn, a person who is able to learn the ancient language of the dragons who inhabit Skyrim. The Dragonborn stands neutral in this war, but he/she can choose for him/herself which side to join. This is just a short summary of what the main storyline of the game is about and it's far from perfect. If someone wants to add something or correct me, then feel free to do so. :)

it's a fairly decent game. It's made by bothesda so it's riddled with bugs and there's really nothing to do after the main quests. Overall it's a pretty fun game. If you didn't like fallout 3 or Oblivion then you probably won't like this game.

It's a horrible game when you look at all features separately. It's quite astonishing that it's still fun to play though. It's a complete mystery why it gets such high praise. The AI would have looked bad 20 years ago, UI is a complete mess, bugs all over the place, poor controls, awful balance, crappy leveling system and so on. The world, however, asks to be explored all the way. I guess that's what most people like about it and they're willing to overlook the rest.

Edit: Mine

Say what?!

While one may feel that there is nothing to do, this is hardly the case. There are hundreds of quests, and oodles of independent missions to explore. One may feel that there there is nothing to match that achievement, but there is tons of things to undertake.
