yes, this is quite a problem. Hopefully they will patch it soon as this makes parts of the game unplayable.

yeah Same issue ... Cant scan.. I tried to reset my controls and it still didnt fix it.. im like 12 hours in ... i really dont want to have to restart to get the scan to work. I use different keys....pfffft i smell console port? BF3 had the same issues in the campaign... game would get stuck if you didnt use the default keys for SCRIPTED events.

I tried setting key bindings to default and restarting the game as suggested and the scan works. But we should be able to map any keys we want.

yes... The work around i am doing is i change the config to default ... save.. go to main menu... then resume my game and it seems to save it without exiting the game. ... go do my scans... then change my config back to the way i want and do some missions then go back to scanning after i switch to default and go back to the man menu then resume again.... Kinda sucks but beats exiting the whole game..... (Still shouldnt have to do that as you said!)

I really hope this bug gets some attention. It may not be the showstopper that some of the crashes other people are getting, but this one severely warps the experience of playing the game -- even if you're employing the workaround.
BTW, there are already two other topics on this:
social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/344/index/9663164/
and
social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/344/index/9657425/
As long as BioWare is willing to assign some kind of priority to this issue, I'm fairly confidant they could clear it up nearly instantaneously. Seems like somone just forgot that last elseif statement somewhere, or possibly it's even down to a config file variable.
EDIT: better linkies
Also, how many here are using the right mouse button as forward movement when they customize to their own preference?

Oh, my. A cross-platform bug? Can you even change your control scheme on the Xbox? If not, shouldn't every single Xbox player have the same problem?

You can change the controls to southpaw (à la 'Halo' options), but that still leaves 'Scan' on left trigger. I should note that I play on the default.
Perhaps the advent of multiple discs is part of the issue? Although how that could possibly affect PC is unclear.
I heart the game so far, I do. But I like things PERFECT in my ME games, so I hope this matter is cleared up soonish. We're pretty much missing a big chunk of the galaxy.

I may be having a similar issue as I can scan but I can't launch any probes. Resetting the keybindings doesn't fix it though.

Same issue here.
Other functions work though -
for example, Atlas uses RMB to launch rockets. Whatever I bound to zoom button (bound to RMB by default) does work for that action.

Yeah same goes for alignment options, I can use LMB or RMB without an issue in those situations.

Nice to know it isn't just me. I thought I had not been granted the ability to scan yet...until I started finding a lot of other bugs in the game.

A temporary fix -
1) Rebind "aim" to RMB
2) F9, quit to main menu
3) Resume
4) Do your scanning
5) Rebind your keys back.

I am experiencing the same problem. Keyboard is remapped, and I can't scan from the galaxy map using any of them.
Two major bugs and I'm not even 4 hours in yet. :\\
