Me! I can't get past this. As the communication from Hackett comes in, the game freezes with an appcrash.

I'm running:
amd phenom 2 x3
Gigabyte GA-MA785G-UD3H
Gigabyte 3gb radeon hd7950 with 12.2 driver

I don't know how much any of that helps, but yaknow.

It seems that the game is riddled with crash-points, That result in the "MassEffect3.exe has stopped working" error.

There is the 'From Ashes' DLC crash
There is a newly discovered crash in the Horizon: Sanctuary mission

And im sure these are not all.

The Horizon mission crash is a game-breaker, Because, Unlike the DLC crash, There is no way 'around' the crash.

At least in 'From Ashes' if you get the OTHER video first, BEFORE getting the signal video, It wont crash, But there is absolutely NO way around the Horizon crash.

Well, All I can say is that Chris Buzon and I have PM'd about this issue, And I have provided him with as much description and detail about the crashes that I have encountered, As I possibly can, And the dev team are investigating the issues, So, HOPEFULLY, We'll have some news soon, Since these crashes are absolute game breakers.

Also, Just out of curiosity, Have you been playing using an imported save from ME2, Or did you start a new character?

I had this exact same issue with Mass Effect 2 recently when I tried to finish up my old save games in order to be able to use them for Mass Effect 3, and now I am having it with Mass Effect 3 as well.

When I first ran Mass Effect 2 on my PC, I was running Windows Vista, and everything worked fine. I have since changed to Windows 7 (a complete re-install, not an upgrade). Nothing has changed on my PC hardware wise other than the NIC, which should have no effect on how the game runs. When I first had the issue with Mass Effect 2, I updated all my drivers, paying special attention to my graphics card (Nvidia Geforce 9600). When that didn't work, I dug around on Google until I could find the EA/Bioware tech support number, and spent about 2 hours working with one of their people trying every fix they could come up with. Nothing worked. The only thing I did not try was completely re-installing Windows, which I did not bother doing since I got the game working on my laptop and was able to transfer over my save files and work on finishing them up there. I figured Bioware and EA would fix the issue in the new game. Unfortunately not. I downloaded the game, installed it through Origin, and got the following:

I was able to load the game, start a new save file using an ME2 save, and begin playing. Initially, my problem was Origin would stop working during the opening sequence, generally during the meeting with the Security Council. I removed the in-game interface, and added Origin as a trusted program on Windows Firewall, and that fixed that. The game ran smooth for about 20-30 minutes. Then I started getting the "Mass Effect 3 has stopped working" error, exactly as I had in Mass Effect 2. There seems to be no one thing causing this. It happens during talking segments, it happens when the game is just left sitting there, there seems to be no one single factor in this. I see only two possible fixes left at this point:

1. Completely re-install Windows 7 and hope that whatever the problem was is somehow corrected.
2. Start a new Mass Effect 2 save from scratch and see if for some reason the old save files are the issue (doubtful, since they run just fine on my laptop, which is also running Windows 7).

If anyone has any suggestions about anything I have not tried, I would greatly appreciate it. I am sure anyone else having this issue has similar feelings, but it is extremely frustrating that Bioware/EA did not fix whatever is causing this before releasing a sequel. If it was something I did, I could understand. I would download the new driver, buy the new hardware, whatever was needed. But it is difficult to keep faith with a company that not only can not fix an issue with their product, but releases a new product with the same exact problem.

If it helps I used to have these issues with ME2 and ME3 demo. I discovered after days and days of troubleshooting that it was down to anti-virus in my case. There was no error to suggest this was the case but if I turn off real time protection the crashes stop.

I also upgraded my video drivers to the latest beta and the combination has seen no crashes in 20-30 hours of game time on ME2, ME3 demo and ME3 full game.

I am not sure if it is down to particular anti-virus products but I was using Microsoft Security Essentials.

I got it fixed. I had to restart and use the "repair install" function in Origin, then I downloaded the 40 mb patch, then it stopped crashing here.

Hope this helps someone.

Mine kept crashing after the first Mars mission...

I see the cutscene showing Normandy flying away, and then a Mars loading screen, and then crash to desktop.

Windows 7 64-bit
Intel i5-750
8GB RAM
Asus Radeon HD 6970 2GB DirectCU II

I used the "repair install" function, ran a full virus scan on my computer to be sure there was nothing wrong, still had the problem. I can try disabling the real time protection and see if that helps, but after this many problems, I am not going to hold my breath. I am also looking for this Patch that I keep seing mentioned, but can not find it online. Is it here on the Bioware site? Is it automatically downloaded through Origin? If not, can someone please link it?

Found this on another forum, figured I'd share it here:

"So if anyone gets the "stopped working" error here's the fix.

go to /Binaries/Win32/ and remove or rename the "atiags.dll" file

if the game still crashes, disable the Origin overlay in the settings for Origin.

Ah such a great game. I want to play more, but will not have time till late Tues or Wed.

Also, support for Eyefinity is non-existent. The game loads and all, but the menus are unusable. I feel so confined gaming on 1 monitor. I had to change this using the actual config.exe in the Binaries folder since I could not read the menus in game."

Credit goes to ultraman7k on HardwareCanucks

More fixes found elsewhere. Not sure if these will even help me, but if any of you are trying to help me, I feel like I should do the same:

22# Mass Effect 3 Has Stopped Working – Crash and Freeze
This may have something to do with the performance fix as mentioned above. If your system is using integrated graphics chips, Mass Effect 3 will freeze followed by crash to desktop. To fix this – Go on your Nvidia parameters > 3D parameters > Globalparameters then check your favorite graphic process and choose’high high-performancermance NvidiaProcessor’.

12# Mass Effect 3 Crash To Desktop, Low Frame Rate, Freezing Fix
If you come across any of these issues, first thing you should check is if your video card is using the high end graphics driver. If it isn’t, you should force it to use these. How To[/i]Search for “Nvidia Setting”, it should have come with your computer. Open the programGo to 3D setting, Select the “Manage 3D Settings”Now click the “Program Settings” TabClick the “Add” ButtonNavigate to “File Path..\\Origin\\Mass Effect 3 Demo\\Binaries\\Win32″ and click on the “MassEffect3.exe”Now you’re free to decide how the graphic cards handle the program.Underneath the above option, you should find the “Select the preferred graphics processors for this computer”.Tell it to choose “High Performance NVIDIA processor” it may vary, but the idea is the same.Don’t forget to look at the bottom left and click the “Apply” button.Restart the game and Origin to make it WORK![/list]

Tried all of these fixes upon arriving home and still crashing. Thanks so much EA/Bioware. Real confidence booster when I can't even play my brand new game from the first day. How about you give us all our money back until you can make this !@#$%^&* work?

I went through the Moon, Mars Earth. No crashes (Have Zero DLC installed besides the reckoner knight and chakram launcher which are not classed as DLC items)

Nvidia 290.53 driver, Physx 9.11.1107, Imported ME2 save file. My game never crashed. I think the DLC is causing crash bugs. Do you guys have prothy in your squad when the crash happens?

My crash happens much further into the game, Specifically, The Priority: Sanctuary mission, On Horizon.

I am running the latest Nvidia driver: 295.73, With an imported save file. I do not have the prothean in my squad, Although, I do have the DLC installed.

I haven't considered playing the game without the DLC. Might try that once I've performed my reformat (Going to test the game under the Windows 8 Consumer Preview!)

Point of Interest:
I had MASSIVE problems with DLC in ME2, Where if I had ANY DLC installed, The entire story order of the game screwed up e.g. Recruit the first 3 squad mates, Then 2 loyalty missions, THEN the Horizon mission would trigger, Then one more loyalty mission, Which in turn, Triggered the Collector's Invasion of the Normandy.

This problem, Also caused other problems, Such as characters disappearing in cutscenes, And, More importantly, I could never complete Tali's loyalty mission, As I could never get the verdict part of the trial to trigger.

kinda offtopic but while the game company fixes their multiple screwups..... about the recruiting app on facebook, does it have any bearing on the game NOW or was it limited to MP Demo? and will it possibly be abused be people to recruit other people? i'll stop there when asking that, its just been bothering me the whole dang week! >_<

Yes, It has a bearing on the full game...For every person you recruit using that app, That links their origin account, And completes/completed the Single Player part of the demo, You get a "Recruit Pack" in Multiplayer...Or, At least, Thats what I read, In the FB app.

Back on topic:
I've got about 10 mins left to download the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, From Microsoft.

My intention is to reinstall ME3, WITHOUT the 'From Ashes' DLC, And play through again, From scratch, With the latest Nvidia Drivers (295.73), Using an imported ME2 save (That WASNT corrupted by my DLC issues lol).

Will report back, After determining whether the "Stopped Working" "MassEffect3.exe has stopped responding" issue still exists, Or if something I've done, Has eliminated the problem/s.

You're welcome. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I did a full hard drive reformat and Windows re-install last night. Updated my Nvidia driver again, re-installed Avast! antivirus, and left the game installing when I left this morning. If a full OS re-install does not fix this issue, I am going to be quite angry.

One possible fix I had considered because of this same problem occurring with Mass Effect 2 was either starting a new Mass Effect 2 file and finishing/using it for this game, or just starting a new Mass Effect 3 game without porting in a Mass Effect 2 save. The theory here was that the Mass Effect 2 saves might be the problem. However, I installed Mass Effect 2 on my laptop, which also runs Windows 7, transferred the save files, and it worked just fine on there. So some people might have corrupted old save games, but I doubt that is my issue here. I will let you all know what happens tonight after I get home.
