Why is there no manual? It does not cost that much just to actually put that in a game box. It is disappointing these days that manuals are not in paper format anymore and it does not give those of us who are into reading this about a game in the way it was meant to be a good perspective. What makes this even more sad is that in one of my college classes on technical writing, the subject of video game manuals was brought up for how companies choose to save money instead of giving what some customers like to have. There is my rant for today.

Edit: Forgot to mention I bought the 360 version.

Because with in game tutorials, online resources, its cheaper to not produce a manual.

Seriously...where have you BEEN? This has been going on in the gaming industry for YEARS. Welcome to the party.

I know a lot of people mock the disappointment in no manuals, but its part of what makes a copy of a game complete to some people. It's like the difference between having a normal copy of the game with the box art on the cover, and having some blank generic DVD case with "Mass Effect" written on it with a marker.

Yeah, I miss the old days where I put the disk into the reader, clicked on "install" and then passed the time until it was done with thoroughly working through the manual.

Not to mention how I miss the "good" old days where the installation progress was a sight to behold itself with vidoes playing and stuff (CnC) or when manuals were more of a roleplay thing than just a mere manual (Wing Commander).

It has only been going on in the more recent years, primarily with PC games where they will have a digital manual or when someone orders the game to be downloaded. I pay for a physical copy of my game along with that I do expect a manual. Now tutorials are all great but usually a manual includes some back story along with what you can expect to see in the game such as weapons, races; etc. Now I cannot even think of a single game off the top of my head that did not include some form of a manual recently when I bought it for Xbox 360.. though some did include those two to three piece paper brief manual but that was only useful for starting a fire.

again, this is an industry standard...pretty much EVERY developer are stingy with the manuals these days. It has nothing to do with BW or EA, its simply following industry trends.

Disagree. I have a STACK of Xbox 360 games...probably 50+ going back 5, 6 years...and alot of them have little in the way of a manual. Many simply have the 2 or 3 piece of paper you diescribe.

You must have purchased a lot of either preowned or low quality games. I only had about 5 or 6 of the 30 or 40 games I purchased in the past few years that have had that type of manual. So from my own experience and point of view this is not industry standard.

I used to love the first time you installed a C&C and you'd get all the back history then the first thing you here when you boot up the game was.

"Welcome back Commander"

Followed by me doing a little geeky Squee.

But yea lack of Manuals is getting annoying... New Game manuals were my Prime toilet reading material through my teens.

Also, I played X-COM on the Playstation, and I wouldn't have got far without that doorwedge of a manual. Not that i'm implying that, that will be the same with ME3 lol but more of a "I <3 Manuals"

Just looked at the top boxes...some of the last games i bought:

Skyrim - manual and map
BF3 - no manual
Forza 4 - no manual
Mortal Kombat - no manual
COD Black Ops - no manual

Wow that brings me back. I still have Claw Mark, I think. Must be older than some users on this forum. Lol.

its irritating me as well, i ADORE reading the manuals first hand, but not all developers are doing this mind you, Final Fantasy 13-2 had a Manual that was good, and my god is Devil Survivor 2's massive (DS game that came out on the 28th last month), 88 freaking pages (granted only half is english, the other half is French).

I for one think it's lame there is not manual... one less reason to buy a physical copy. Weak Bioware, weak! Hopefully the game still kicks ass like ME1.

Am I the only one who love games moving to digital manuals? Truth be told KOA:R was my first with completely without and I adore the system.

Paper manuals are a stupid waste, plain and simple. There is nothing a physical manual can do that can not be done more efficiently in game.

Manuals are for wimps. Real men go in and let whatever happens, happen. Just like sex.
