Nothing like buying the collectors edition for a game you will never play again because the endings sucked.

However, I think there is still some room for a "happy" ending if you can call it that.

The best possible ending that people would like, and make sense, is you and your LI getting stranded/dying together with everything else being the same as the other endings. Which still may be an ending, since I haven't gotten to/watched all of them yet.

My LI dying is not happy by any means. I'd rather have him/her live on and move on, eventually. But I want an option for the relays to be preserved, and a hint that Shepard might survive the Synthesis.

Too late now, bioware cant fix this.

But at least i want to know why last 5 minutes kills 25 awesome hours of game and 5+ years of polishing game universe.

They could fix it with downloadable content. The way they ended the game made everything that came before it seem pointless. They basically give you the illusion of choice even though in the end you always end up with the same ending. That's why so many of us are pushing for downloadable content endings.

I can understand you. Today I could activate my DDE. Finally! The day I'm waiting for a long time. But I want play it not anymore. Not with the knowing of this crappy ending. Thanks, BioWare.

Even more people are upset now, and someone even started a new poll asking whether you'd ever buy another Bioware game.

There are almost 600 pages worth of people getting angry on another thread. When the Europeans finally beat the game, it may jump to 1,000; you never know. It's just really depressing.

Polls are useless because the people giving their opinions are overcome with emotion and are therefore, irrational.

I have never been so horrified with an ending in my life. To build up a romance for 3 games, something unheard of in video games today, and then to shatter everything in 5 minutes of the worst kick in the balls i could ever imagine... i just can't believe bioware would do this.

I hope maybe this crappy CE i have will have an ending that isn't utterly atrocious and will let me live out the rest of my shepards life with Liara like i always thought they would.

If not bioware has to do something for DL content because i'm just so appalled by this slap in the face that i'm not sure i could ever play another bioware game for fear they are not going to learn and just do this again. I really don't even feel like playing ToR anymore.

Bioware made me fall in love and then stabbed me in the heart...

Don't leave us hanging bioware, fix this please

TBH after seeing the "shepard breathing in the rubble" ending, my hope is kind of rekindled.

I'd be happy if we could at least get a "shepard survives" (breathing in the rubble) ending with any choice but the red one.

Then at least you have hope for the future, not just a bleak depressing ending.

BioWare's cm announced recently that we have to wait a little time until more players have finished the game, then BioWare will explain us, why the ending is great though and we all are wrong. I'm full of pleasant anticipation.

"Oh, ya know, i was like: Hey John, ya wanna make ME4? yeah, me neither. Lets screw it up, like, kill everyone in the end or something like that. Why and how? Uh. Well, i'll figure something out when i'll be driving home today".

The game was amazing until the ending. I'm depressed because I have invested so much time and emotions into this franchise since the start just to see it all wasted in the last 5 minutes of the game. I was planning to replay ME3 right away, but now I dont feel like touching the game again. Whats the point when in the end everything I do doesnt matter at all?

So disappointed. Lost my faith in Bioware.

Honest, I am okay with TWO options.

If they say "Hey, we didn't realize, our bad, more is coming."

OR

"We left it up to you, AND WILL NOT BE RETCONNING YOUR PERSONAL ENDING YOU HAVE HEADCANNON/ATTRIBUTED EVER."

Eithrt way, Ill be happy with he first, begrudginly content with the other.

I will most likely be set on fire for this but I liked the ending I picked. It was the "synthesis" option. It was a good closure to the Shepard part of the series and opens up the possibility for new beginnings within the Mass Effect universe. Everything starts over with the cycle permanentally broken and Joker finally got a break. I could go on for a few pages on my thoughts on this, but since this is a forum... I'll keep it short.

Well, I heard the outrage over the endings a few days prior to playing the game. However, not wishing to spoil myself, I played through the game first without reading any of that. I had largely enjoyed this rendition of the game as a whole-- it was streamlined and much of the deep role playing is gone, but the story was still good. There were several moments that genuinely tugged at my hearstrings, and some of the best moments I have had in the ME series was in this game. However, we are not discussing the game as a whole. We are discussing the ending, and on that, I do not hold as high an opinion. This ending might even have been acceptable in some standard, but the way it was presented was quite disappointing.

For fans who have invested time into playing all three games, a large number of personal choices were made over the course of 100+ hours of gameplay. This sort of thing really invests the fans in the characters and the universe. That makes the "choose your ending" a jarring discourse from the immersion that this game provides, particularly since it seems that all of the choices you've made up to the final five minutes have absolutely no effect on the conclusion of the series. It would have seemed more appropriate to be forced into an ending based on all of the choices you made.

Likewise, many players will become attached to their love interests and the other members of the party. The completely vague philosophical endings are a great message to send to players, but they are not the messages that players want to hear after such a large amount of time and interest is put into this game. I understand the urge for the authors to include a message that they want to convey to all their players if this is the last game of the trilogy, but there are subtler ways of doing it (in that regard, I am also slightly critical of the use of a child to represent the people Shepard can't save in that it thrusts a unknown character into the story that the player cannot relate to and essentially tells us 'Here. Feel sorry for this child. It's a metaphor for everyone left behind.')..

I think my biggest issue is the lack of closure. It is fine for an ending to have some sort of ambiguity, as it opens up the world for discussion and expansion. However, I feel that it was taken a bit too far here. I wasn't ever expecting a saccharine ending to all of these events, but I was expecting to at least be able to find out what had become of the individuals I had spent so much time with and seeing the more immediate overall outcomes of the actions, rather than (after the credits) a pair discussing possible travel to the stars (once again removing players from the immersion into the mass effect universe where travel among space is completely expected-- not to mention other technicalities that I feel have been discussed already) and noting that everything I have done for the past three games have by and large been forgotten. The player forges a bond with the character they are playing, and then we are told (completely out of the player's control) that the everything goes ****** up, you die (or possibly survive alone on a station), and the status of all of your friends is completely unknown. I have not been this disappointed in quite some time.

Finally, the largest issue is how it introduces far too much far too quickly. "Here is the catalyst. It controls the Reapers. It looks like the child in your dreams. All synthetics eventually revolt. I can't decide on my own. Make your choice." I had always remembered all the choices I made in these three series, and had genuinely emotional reactions to each of the consequences of each, such as the extreme elation of seeing the full fleets show up at the conclusion. Yet this sort of rapid revelation that comes from left-field with no buildup (or more importantly, background) is so jarring that it completely disconnect you from the experience. At the end when the credits begin scrolling, you don't even remember the events of the ME universe and the things you did. You just remember the last 5 minutes because of how strange and disconnected from the rest of the events in the game it was.

If I could use a metaphor myself, my experience with the ME series is like finding a fantastic vista looking over a lake to the mountains. The area is perfect, and I begin to build a wooden log cabin. It has flaws here and there, but it is my log cabin built the way I want it, and it fits in with the surrounding area. As I am nearly done building the log cabin, the roof builds itself, metallic and coated in a bright neon color. I get to choose which neon color I want to paint the metal roof with from yellow, lime green, or bright pink, but I have to use one of those colors and get no say in the material used to build it, even though it doesn't fit in with the rest of the cabin or the vista. I have sinced move out of the cabin to another house, and now every time I think ahout the cabin, I will see the roof.

However, when remembering the Mass Effect series, I will choose to remember the characters and their development, the lore of the universe, and all of the witty dialogue and charming moments throughout each game. This is still something that I truly enjoyed-- the cherry ending at the top just happened to be spoiled.

I would have bought ME3 to play regardless of the situation simply because of my investment into ME1 and ME2. However,I will have to wait for more reviews before I pre-order things again. I'm not quite fond of paying so much to come out disappointed at the end. The ending is what sticks with me on all things I experience, and it's going to take a while to get the taste of this one out of my mouth.

TL;DR --
1. It feels like it does not take into account all the choices you made before in the previous series, or even within this individual game.
2. It is extremely ambiguous about the fate of any character in the series you remotely care about, and even about the fate of the galaxy as a whole.
3. It is extremely philosophical in nature, and does away with the lore and fantastic diversity of the series.
4. Melancholy is the word to describe the ending. You will not come out feeling happy, or more importantly, that you have earned whatever ending it is you chose.

I would recommend renting the game or, failing that, waiting a while until the game drops in price. I honestly can say I enjoyed it, but I have no vested interest to continue playing to see the alternative paths in the story knowing where it will culminate (I had planned to immediately do a second playthrough, but that motivation is gone). As of such, I cannot justify to myself paying such a large amount of money for this experience.

[EDIT] -- On an not-quite-related note, what happened with the business about Dark Energy and how it was causing rapid deterioration of stars in ME2? It was mentioned by several characters throughout the course of the entire game, so I thought all of that was foreshadowing how important of a role it would play in ME3. However, it s consipicuously missing.

With the given rage I assumed I would need an aspestos suit. I can understand peoples rage because they wanted to see Shepard go on, but it was time for this story arc to end it appears is what Bioware was going after. Either way all three endings set up what could be anything from a new trilogy to a *gasp* mmorpg with having to hinge upon Shepard story arc, its just a matter of what ending they choose to follow when or if they add more to the Mass Effect universe.

Some people are quite upset, and I am pretty upset too to be honest. But it doesn't bother me that people are happy. It only bothers me if they think we're in the wrong for being upset about it. Lol. And I have no problem with this being Shepard's last game, I just would have preferred a happier ending to his story. Mass Effect 4 would be awesome if it took place a few hundred years later, and it mentions Shepard or something. But again, for now I just want a happy ending.

I'm afraid they'll go like most devs:
"We are very happy with the endings." and then justify them, without getting into details that would please us.
