It would be nice to have some way to communicate with teammates other than voice chat. Doesn't have to be text chat.

A dev response of a simple yes or no would be great, at least let us know if you plan to implement it.

When we asked about there being a keybind for text chat that did nothing, they told us it would be fixed in the full game

This is not the fix that we were hoping for..

I'm wondering what happened to the voice chat volume slider. Now I am forced to listen to ****y teenagers screaming "DAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMIT!!!!" when they die.

I can't even remember a multiplayer game that didn't have textchat?

I cant belive there is no chat, every multiplayer game has a chat! I mean there was the T key in the demo! Bioware any feedback on this? A chat is essential!!

Also there should be a way to ajust voice volumes (in and out...) for mic

I'm rather surprised at this. I do have a mic and use it quite a bit, but I know there are people that don't that would like to communicate.

This option needs to be in the game, both in-game and in the lobby. It's extremely frustrating for a lot of players.

You won't get one because like I said, this is PC specific and Bioware/EA doesn't really care about PC users.

It's not like a new feature, there was the option in the demo there should be in full game... now i am starting to feel a little deceived and frauded about this, especially since multiplayer is why i bought the game (i dont like the sp)

They care about their PC users as much as they care about any other paying customer. If we make it clear enough that a good many of us want it, I see nothing to suggest they won't listen.

Really? Where is the text chat? Something that is present in pratically every multiplayer game. Where are the high-res textures? Why are PC gamers getting stuck with a highly problematic 1 button for all when we have keyboards with over 100 different keys? Look at all the threads that have Bioware devs who gave input, and yet this one gets completely ignored, why? PC specific.

Text chat would be great for the lobby, less so in a match. I'd only want to see it available in a match if we have a way to disable it mid-game or if we're able to mute a specific player, also mid-game, (which would mute their mic and text chat) because it will just be a spamming disaster waiting to happen otherwise.

With the advent of gamepads not everyone on a PC is playing on a keyboard, nor does everyone WANT to play on a keyboard. Some people like a short range of buttons and simplicity. I'm not going to be so bold as to claim that because I like a wide range of buttons on my PC that EVERYONE does. Some people want the simplicity of a 'one button does everything'. I'd like the option, certainly, but it's hardly a decrying statement that BioWare hates me for using a PC. Is it hard to grasp some PC users might like that too?

As for a lack of Hi-Res textures? I'm glad for that. I'm tired of updating my graphics card every six months because some company wants to show off their graphics. I couldn't care less- not in Mass Effect. I'm not playing to look at the pretty pictures, and frankly? I think it looks fine as is, and that's on an HD monitor. Let them put more work into other things, like story and gameplay. I'm not noticing a lack there.

As a person gaming on a PC, I want my options too, yes. It's one of the reasons to bother gaming on it; however, a lack of super-pretty-graphics, them trying to make a convenient 'one button does all' (whether it worked or not, though it doesn't really) and- if I want to be painfully reasonable- a lack of text chat (especially when you have ten thousand plus 'gamers' kids, all using a PC, who just scream at you to buy/use a mic or complaining your text is covering their pretty pictures...) is hardly damning evidence that the company hates the PC.

But it's all point beside and rather off-topic. I think we can just all cut down to rather simple fact that those of us on the PC would like the widest range of communication possible and that we'd like the option, at least, for text chat on our platform. Simple enough, really, and they aren't the first company to forget it/remove it on launch, and if we all make it clear we want it, they won't be the only company to have patched it in at a later date.

P.S. If this thread IS being ignored, I'm still willing to bet money on the fact that it's not the only one and that there are still plenty on these forums, both console and PC oriented, that never receive answers from devs. But hey, considering their jobs, I'm surprised BioWare devs get around to answering as much as they do, nevermind at all.

Also, I'd like to point out that Origin's chat IS NOT A GOOD ALTERNATIVE. Especially when you're getting shot at constantly in MP :|

So, yeah, I need something that I can do in real-time without having to shift + f1 just to have to use the chat to talk to my boyfriend when I should be actually fighting.

I honestly cannot think of a recent MP PC game that does not have text chat.

Even Console-First games like Call of Duty and Gears had text chat!

Ditto. We need text chat. Origins chat is about as useful as tabbing out and sending an IM. Heck most IMs even have multi-party conferencing support.

They need more communication options in the lobby, because if everyone is ready and one isn't, you have no way of knowing if they are buying packs, changing a loadout, went to the bathroom or upgrading their powers.

The lack of Hi-Rez textures has nothing to do with Dev-choices, it has to do with the fact that the Big 2 Consoles Xbox 360 and the PS3, are running on aging hardware, hardware that was considered 'old' two years ago.  Most top-tier games release on the PC and Consoles nowadays, and therefore PC games are suffering since devs have to optimize the graphics for the consoles rather than the PC.

Truth is, when the conoles finally get updated, you are going to see PC games pushing the boundaries on graphics again the way they were 2-3 years ago.

For instance, do you honestly believe Bethesda wanted to release Skyrim with graphics that were virtually identicle to Fallout 3 graphics, a game released around 2 years prior?  Absolutely not!  But they had no choice because Skyrim was being released on Consoles as well as the PC.

On the other hand, look at PC-Exclusive game like Shogun Total War 2.  They are running battles with thousands of Soldiers rendered with Graphics and Animations that are comparable to -- if not better than -- most top-tier console action games.  How do they do it?  The Total War franchise is PC exclusive and is therefore free to use PC hardware at maximum potential.

Bottomeline, Consoles are running on archaic hardware right now.  PC games are suffering as a result because most top-tier games have to optimized for both Consoles and PC.

While I fall short of saying text chat is absolutely necessary, it would improve the game a great deal. Especially in terms of getting ready for a match in the lobby. I do hope this is added in soon after release.

I never said it was a dev choice or made any claims to what they wish they could have done or whatever else, don't care about Skyrim, don't care about Shogun. My point was I really just don't care how pretty the graphics are or aren't, so long as the game is solid, and it is; nor do I think them optimizing to sell to multiple platforms is any great evidence that they're playing favorites. I really don't care if they push the boundaries in that regard nor does my experience on gaming with my PC adversely suffers for it, nor does PC gaming suffer for it except in the most sheer technical view point that you're 'not pushing for new technology in games' (graphics should be the least of our concerns in how we want to see games advance, but that's purely an opinionated blot from my end, admittedly). It's repetition to say it again, but there you have it; I don't really care about the graphics. They're importance is pretty minimalistic on my gaming experience, sure it's there though and hey, better graphics is always a NICE thing, but screaming that BioWare hates me because I game on a PC and they didn't make me spend $300 for a top of the line video card (and that's a ridiculously cheap price for 'a really good one' these days) so I could see Shepard's pores? Kinda pretentious.

But it's all an off-subject moot point. Bottom line? We'd like our full range of communication. Text chat please.

This is something that really surprised me about the retail game, I was sure we'd get a text chat. Disappointing

To those still arguing whether or not a feature like that should be considered a definitive necessity:

Text chat is a definitive necessity for EVERY multiplayer title because of hearing impaired players.
Simple as that!

^-- This. The 90's sucked so hard when gaming companies were like "AWESOME, we can add voice acting to the games" nevermind forgetting the fact that not every gamers have sufficient hearing to be able to understand without subtitles ... it makes me cry ;_;

So, really, text chat should be a non-brainer. -_-
