Sorry but this has to be the worst idea I've seen in awhile

Bolting on a silly Left 4 Dead type game to an RPG is not interesting, not fun, and not at all what I want. If I want to go play a multiplayer shootie, I'll fire up Battlefield 3. For Mass Effect 3, I want to play single player. The reason I buy Bioware RPGs (every Bioware RPG ever made so far for Windows) is for the great single player story experience. I buy other games for multiplayer of various types (like BF3).

Now what makes this such a bad idea is the influence on the single player game. I am not interested in the MP aspect. I fired it up to give it a quick try, and I hate it. No surprise, I hated Left 4 Dead. This would be fine but I'm not at all interested in having or participate in something totally outside of the regular game experience.

So, we'll see how things go. If I find that indeed the single player can stand on its own, you can win the war all in there, then I'm a happy camper, though I still maintain it is a bad idea. If I find out that isn't the case I'm going to be real pissed off and this will likely be my last Bioware RPG purchase.

People have different kinds of games they like and don't like and it is a real bad idea to try and force one game type on another.

So my advice would be in a future patch decouple the multi-player from the single player entirely. You've spent the resources on it, so no point in getting rid of it or anything, but basically acknowledge that you've made two games: A (hopefully) epic SP RPG and a mediocre L4D clone. Let people play whichever they like and don't have one influence the other.

Thank god Bioware doesn't just make games for you then.

And the multiplayer only affects the single player if you want it to, you don't have to play it at all.

Actually this was a fantastic idea. Multiplayer is loads of fun and far better than I ever expected it to be.

im preeeeeetty sure they made singleplayer separate to multiplayer, and then added the readiness bar to reward multiplayer players. It doesn't actually change the way they implement singleplayer. They can calibrate the weight of the multiplayer how every they see fit; and they decided to go with a Doubling of readiness if you choose to fully partake in multiplayer; to alleviate the need to delve fully into singleplayer and every side mission.

The multiplayer dev team is separate from the singleplayer dev team. The readiness is just a reward for peopler playing MP; because the readiness % is just a weighted number - the campaign is entire, no reason for it not to be.

MP and single player are completely seperate and don't intertwin unless you want it to. No need to play if you don't want to.

But it's fun as F*ck and I spent 60+ hours on it on the Demo with my husband, he even quit WoW to play it and bought ME3 to continue.

Multiplayer is the reason I actually bought this title instead of my norm of renting RPGs. Multiplayer has replay value far above the normal "play through this story again" feeling (even in co-op).

While the multiplayer can certainly give you a leg up in the single player, it is nowhere near required to complete the game. I think you should fire up multiplayer and try it out. I believe you'd be pleasantly surprised in how it feels like an extension of the single player game; just with other players joining you. It will NOT feel like Battlefield or Call of Duty.

Aside from the fact that MP is already separate and entirely optional (something that could have been confirmed in far less time than that entire post via ME Wiki), I find it hard to sympathize with someone who hates multiplayer games that are well done.

MP is cool enough, and allows you to get on a Krogan rampage.

Tell me you didn't want to jump in an alien skin, I double dare ya.

I'm sorry you feel that way, Sycraft, but surprisingly, ME3 multiplayer has been getting an overwhelmingly positive reaction from ME3 fans. Not just overwhelmingly positive, more like overwhelmingly fantasti-awesome! Since the multiplayer demo was released, we have been getting a tremendous amount of positive feedback here in our community and elsewhere in gaming-land. And the best part is, it's completely optional.

If you don't like the multiplayer, you never have to play it. At all. You'll just have to play through more side quests in the single-player game in order to achieve the same results. in the future, i would recommend you do your research before making an angry doom-and-gloom post, because we've been talking about the multiplayer for a little while now. ;)

thanks, and thank you everyone fro your support and enthusiasm for our multiplayer!

I was skeptical about the multiplayer, but now I love it. It is a lot of fun and challenging at the same time. Very good job Bioware.

I actually played the multiplayer demo until it was shut off and then played multiplayer ME3 before I even imported my ME2 savegame. I love the multiplayer! We're going to have a LAN party this weekend just so groups of us can play it at a friend's house--it's that awesome.

Hopefully you guys can all get on the same connection because ME3 multiplayer doesn't support LAN. Lame, I know.

You can create a game and filter it to private then invite your friends--works great.  We're already doing that.  We just want to hang out, BBQ, and play some games together this weekend.

You sir, just became my hero. Awesome comeback.

And I also may add, ME3 MP is the best online experience I've ever played in a very long time, I feel this needed to be done with ME2 aswell.

Congratulations BioWare, you exceeded my expectations again.

Left 4 Dead? More like Gears of War Horde mode. In any case, I'm having a lot of fun with it. If you don't like it, don't play it.

Well, it's matter of perspective, but I mostly see
overwhelmingly negative reaction ;)

Wow. Perspective can sure change things, can it not? A bit like statistics where you can use the results to explain jast about anything and their opposites too.

You are probably just looking for the negative reactions, cause wherever you go on BSN, in spite of the obligatory haters, MP conclusively rules.
