I'm having some trouble importing my old ME2 save as I had bought a new computer and only moved over the save file from ME2 to the comp via flash drive.

Anyways the importer in game won't automatically find the file so does anyone know how I would get it to recognize it(aka where I need to move it)?

I'm having the same problem. I've found the files, even copied them from the ME 2 folder to the ME 3 folder and it still won't find anything.

Same situation here. I transferred my save files on a flash drive to my new computer but not sure how to make ME3 see/import them.

You need to put the savegame in a proper folder.

C:\\Users\\<user>\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\John_12_Adept_280110

Put a savegame (like Save_0029.pcsav or multiple savegames) in the above folder.

The six digits is just a date when the folder was created, but is REQUIRED. Note that this is a Mass Effect 2 folder, not a ME3 folder.

Does it matter what the name is? Because I played ME2 about 2 years ago i think and don't remember what name/level/class he is. and is it one save per named folder or can i put all my saves (i have two careers one para one rene) in the one folder?

Alright I tried ZBobG recommendation and when I went to import character I heard a windows error sound, so I exited and the message says that new folder I created is invalid or somesuch, I went to look for it and it is gone now.

Edit: Stupid me I left WE open at the save folder when I tried to import the first time so probably was in use or something. Anyways I followed the above reccomendation and there is still no careers showing up to import.

Hmm something interesting. When I went to check on the ME2 saves folder in my documents/Bioware etc. the folder I created inside the save folder is gone. So looks like ME3 is checking it but deleteing it for some reason.

I've copied and pasted the Save Game files from my M E 2 directory to the M E3 directory and it still won't work. I've also edited the ini file to reflect that change and nothing happens. I can find the files within windows, I know what I need...but the game won't see anything.

So, stupid me was trying to import ME1 save games. Yeah yeah I know... Anyways once I found my ME2 save files I followed http://social.biowar...37669/4#9661804 this post so now I can see my careers in the import screen but I can't import them even though I finished the game on both. So on to the next problem before I can even start playing.

I think my problem is that I completed a game...but then did a New Game + with that same character and haven't finished the game a second time around.... I've tried all the so-called 'fixes' and I've even followed standard import procedures...but still nothing works. I think I have to finish the NG+....

Ditto, same issue here. New computer, moved entire Mass Effect 2 Directory and Mass Effect 3 isn't showing anything under the import character option.

Tried renaming & editing the ini and still no luck.

I will update this thread should I find a fix that works.

I bought a new computer with new hard drives and operating system and copied over from the old hard drive, the old Directory folder from ME2 to the NEW computer via a COOLMAX CD-350-U3 USB3.0 to IDE & SATA 3 in 1 Multifunction Adapter with USB3.0 & OTB.

1: OLD hard drive: K:\\Documents and Settings\\<user>\\My Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\Razorback_11_Vanguard_030210
2: NEW hard drive: C:\\Users\\<user>\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\Razorback_11_Vanguard_030210

In ME3, no character is available for importing under the import character option.
(Note): Mass Effect 3 does not see any of the 51 saves from the ME2 directory folder.

I also looked at the following links:
1: http://help.ea.com/a...o-mass-effect-3 (no help)
2: http://social.biowar...37669/4#9661804 (have not tried this yet)
3: http://social.biowar...3/index/9654653 (have not tried this yet)
4: http://www.masseffec....com/import.php (have not tried this yet)

As you can see many people have already tried different things to TRY and get some sort of workaround to work with some success. It would be nice if BioWare could provide a standard step by step fix or alternate more in-depth solutions for those of us who would like to continue our ME2 characters career.

Hopefully BioWare can help with a more permanent solution in the very near future.

So this morning I decided to continue towards finishing my ME 2 playthough....only to discover that with all the moving around of files that I did yesterday to try and get ME 3 to work, I have competely lost-- or perhaps just misplaced my ME 2 saves. So....Now Im stuck with having to completely replay ME 2. My only consolation is that I will then be able to import my character into 3......Hopefully. I'm thinking I might delete the game (ME 3) and start fresh, once I have sucessfully completed ME 2, that way all the files will be in their proper places since it will be a fresh install. I pray this plan works......

Hi,

Copying your Mass Effect 2 'Save' folder directly into the Mass Effect 3 'Save' folder will not allow you to import your character. You will see you character's profile in the Import ME2 Character menu but nothing will happen when you click 'Import Career/Character' :(.

Another tread suggest that you create a 'Mass Effect 2' folder in the 'BioWare' folder, giving you the following directory:-

C:\\Users\\NAME\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2

After that, copy the 'Save' folder (the one containing your character) into the 'Mass Effect 2' folder. Once done, you should have the following directory:-

C:\\Users\\NAME\\Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\Save\\

Run Mass Effect 3 and you should be good to go :).

This method has worked for me and it is worth the try for those of you that only have Mass Effect 3 on your computer or are transferring your 'Save' folder between computers.

Oh, in order for the import to work, your character must complete the entire storyline of the previous games. If you're playing the game for a second time using the same character, it will not hinder the import regardless of whether your character is in the Normandy or in the midst of a mission.

There is one drawback though. Certain decision(s) made in ME1/ME2 may be altered i.e. who you romanced in ME1/ME2 and/or who lived and died :(. I have this issue with regards to my characters romance decision. I'm not sure if anyone else using this import method is having the same experience.

*Troubleshooting credits goes to those that posted the various solutions in other treads. Thanks guys :).*

After spending two days of trying suggestions, here is a small update to my previous post:

2: http://social.biowar...37669/4#9661804 (tried ALL suggestions presented from page 1 thru 6 and nothing worked)
3: http://social.biowar...3/index/9654653 (tried ALL suggestions presented from page 1 only and nothing worked)
4: http://www.masseffec....com/import.php (tried suggestions presented from on page and nothing worked)

Still hoping for a BioWare fix, maybe they could make some sort of character importer just so we could just point to a saved game... I don't know but maybe someone will find a fix that EVERYONE can use without TRYING all these different sort of workaround fixes and hope for the best.
