The contents of that chest is part of a questline. It's specifically tied to the task Dulin sets you on if you want to speak to Lord Harrowmont.

What about that platform in front of the throne room? Makes noises if you stand on it and get off. Also I click the throne and it always says "no effect". I read the codex entry on it but couldn't find the three places to park my companions before using the throne.

There are three pressure plates, two in the throne room (off in the corner they look sort of like arrows), one in the main hall directly before the throne room.  If each of your allies are standing on a plate and then you click on the throne stuff will happen.

Thanks! I missed the two in the throne room and finally gave up after searching all the other rooms. Will remember this for next character.

Can you go into any further detail Seagloom? I have the same problem as the OP; the door was never clickable, despite the fact that I was working for Lord Harrowmont too, and the only quest I received from Dulin was to participate in the Proving...

I remember noticing at the time that I had the key, but couldn't interact with the door, so I assumed it'd open up later. I'm pretty sure I actually stole the key from Myaja, without ever having a quest to interact with her or her chest.

Here's a thought: Do you have to be a Dwarf to pick up that quest? I'm playing a Human Mage.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Well Phlupple, If your helping him, and your going to the proving, talk around and you find out some of his prize fighters have been blackmailed out of fighting by some of the princes goons, and you need to convince them to participate. Talking to these said fighters will open those quests " one being to get something out of the chest"

If you are working for Harrowmont, and your PC has high a high enough stealing skill (or you've skilled Leliana up with stealing) you can steal the key from Myaja and use it to open the chest and complete the quest that MatronAdena mentioned.

Annoyingly, you can also steal the key from Myaja if you sided with Bhelen, but as I haven't found any way to get into her room (other than by siding with Harrowmont) the key just uselessly sits in your inventory.

Yes, yes you can. But you say that you fight in the honor of Bhelen. I like to do that just to rub it in Harrowmonts face. I restore his fighters and then whoop their sorry little bottoms.

Was wondering when a comment like this would appear in a topic entitled as such

One of the things I found fun was finding out how certain things that were in game that seemed to have no purpose despite sticking out as having one actually were there. Like some of the NPCs in Denerim market and of course those two chests.

Gives a good reason for multiple playthroughs other than just for RP reasons.

Interesting, how do you get the option to do that?

I don't really know, took Harrowmonts quest, started to get his fighters back and then you can enter without saying that you fight for Harrowmont to the registry guy.

Then you say that you did it for Harrowmont, the GW or Bhelen when winning, at least I think those are the options.

Hmm, might try that on another runthrough. On my recent runthrough I didn't state I was doing it for him when I first went in, but on the last fight I did say in my pre-fight that I was and don't recall any options to state Bhelen. Then again I hadn't got his fighters back either due to failed persuasion/intimidation (only had 1 coercion at the time).

I know that you can obviously double-cross either of them later on when you get back from the anvil of the void. Not done that yet but again will do on another runthrough. Thanks for the tip.

How do I get to the Chest content when my rogue does have sufficient skill to pick locks?

You need a lockpick the door to get into Myaja's room, and then lockpick the chest too. Both are doable with a lockpick skill of 40.

Alternatively you can steal the key from Myaja (the key is to the room. You still need to lockpick the chest, so you'll need a rogue if your warden is not one. Lelianna should be a good lockpicker, as long as you pumped at least a few of her points into cunning).
