I'm having a problem completing the companion quest for shale and I need help figuring out what to do next to continue this quest.

So I completed Orzammar and when I got back to camp I talked to Shale and told her about the anvil and she gave me this quest which tells me there is something in the deep roads that she needs to find. I immediately thought of the golem registry so I brought her there. When looking at the registry I had the option of asking shale if she recognizes anything and she replied that she did not, but that perhaps bringing a copy back to camp would allow her to study it.

This is where the problem is. I already made a copy and gave it to the shaperate(as the quest log in the game instructed me to do) and looking at the registry again does not give me the option to make another nor can I get a copy from the shaperate. Having looked around the internet on this quest it appears that this quest is supposed to give you access to another area in the deep roads but it hasn't appeared yet since I can't advance the quest.

Is this a bug or is there a way to advance this quest that I just havn't thought of. Thanks for any help.

This isn't going to help you and I'll apologize in advance. But what makes you want to refer to Shale as a she? I have yet to do the background quest and maybe that's why I still think of Shale as a it/he...Be a M. Night Shyamalan twist if was a female in it's past(considering the many male indicators in it's personality.

Shale is a she, her name was Shayle and she was the only female to be made a golem, (according to in-game stuff you find for her plus her voice to me sounds a lot like Bea Arthur...)

but as to the OP you need to have shale in your party and re-explore the deep roads, can't remember just which "map" it was on to progress this.

I haven't gotten there yet but the Prima guide says Shale adds a new area to your map when you enter Caridin's Cross with her after completing the Orzammar plot line.

I finally got the quest to advance so thanks everyone for your help. The quest can be advanced by entering either Caridin's cross or the Orthain Thaig with Shale in the party so I guess the Golem registry was just a red herring.

It's funny, but I always thought of shale as female even before learning of her past. The conversations about her crystals just seemed too effeminate for a male golem.

Yeah, that kinda made me wonder. That and the fact that she likes Gems more so than Ohgran.
