You put the disk in the disk tray?

[/sarcasm]

Same kind of thing happened with Battlefield 3, saying it was downloading when it was actually installing off the disk. Guess they must have used the most ****-tier of installer packages. EDIT* By that, I mean Origin.

How to Install Mass Effect 3 from DVD (without download)
1.) Install Origin
2.) Let Origin Update to the current Version
3.) Restart Origin
4.) Enter your Mass Effect 3 Code in Origin
5.) Don't start the Download, but close Origin with a right click on the Origin Icon in the Systray -> Exit
6.) Restart setup.exe from Disc 1, it will start Origin and the Installation from the DVDs

7.) (The most Important) Never ever buy a Game from EA Origin or Valves Steam again. Just ***** it.

This deserves a bump. If the physical game defaults to a digital download with no good reason, I like the idea of a sidestep.

I tried installing from the Discs, but it got stuck at 99 percent for 30+ minutes saying "copying disc content". Is that normal? Anyway, I just cancelled it and downloaded from Origin (took 15 mins and installed nicely). Sad where the gaming industry is going, really. You buy a game on 2 discs and you can't even install or play it without internet connection/release date checks. Maybe I'm getting old, but this just seems overly complicated and not in any way useful to anyone.

Mine installed from the disk straight away. No issues there.

My disc gave me an error straight away, had to "explore" my disc to start up setup.

It then went to do something which broke my origin install.

Nice 1.

installed from the disc without any problems. origin was running in the background, inserted the disc, entered the code and it installed nicely from the disc. once it reached 100%, it installed additional stuff like the soundtrack and the DLC. since i got my self the CE.

Dont know if you tried this or not but:

1) uninstall origin
2) redownload it from Origin's website.
3) reboot
4) start up origin
5) try to install

the install should work from disc then. Thats what I had to do.

If you allready started the download, you have to exit Origin and delete the partially downloaded files from ME3 in your Origin downloadcache folder.:)

Currently stuck on 99% Complete for ages now.

Live in the UK, got my delivery a day early. If the above works, I guess I'll have to reinstall the entire thing :|

None of the kindly suggested solutions work. I almost skipped ME3 entirely because of Origin, but went against my gut feeling and bought it anyway. Instant disappointment. (Oh and if I was the gaming company with the worst rep in the industry, I'd go to great lengths to improve it, not the other way around. But that's just silly me.)

I did this and it worked. However, I only decided to do this after 30 minutes of wondering why the Origin client just suddenly didn't want to run after it automatically downloaded an update and why popping the disc in the optical drive was not initiating the installation process.

Heck, for some unknown reason my PC all of a sudden couldn't detect the ME3 disc 1 in the DVD drive after the aformentioned automatic update. Oh well, at least the typical solution of  "uninstall-then-reinstall" worked this time.

It wasn't anywhere near 30 minutes but it was 2 or 3 for me at 99% and I was bit worried but then it finished. It does seem to be doing something that takes a while there.

I tried everything but Origin just seem to have ALOT of serious bugs. I decided to let my computer stay on over the night to download... 17 h of downloading and almost no sleep. In the morning: Download error. Well thank you EA. I think you're trollin me big time. When it's easier to pirate a game than buying it.. Then something is really wrong.

I believe this is not fair to the customers. I bought the physical edition and now I have to wait additional 2 hours for the game to download even if I have that same game right here with me on the discs. I mean, ok they want us to use Origin, but come on!

And everyone wonders why is so hard to stop piracy, i had the same problem for 30 minutes. At least i would expect they would make something more simple to install.

THANKS!!

THIS WORKED for me. I deleted the ME3 folder in Origin GAMES and when I put the disk back in it is updating nicely from disk. Having said that If EA don't get their act together it is going to cost them because Origin is very buggy and unacceptable in it's current form. I lost about 30 minutes trying to figure out what to do and had to google it to find this answer here. Not good enough EA.

There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the disks but Origin has unacceptable bugs. Enough to make me think twice about buying any EA game unless they make it easier to install without having to do a google search for answers.

Just been directed to this page by the support staff at Origin. I am singularly unimpressed by the existence of this issue and the handling of my support request. It could have been worse I guess, I could have had no access to the game at all. But ridiculous to have the game sittting in its entirity in my DVD player and then having to spend 16 hours or so downloading it on my relatively poor internet connection. The support replies were terrible, I would give them specific details of what was happening and they would send back a generic reply saying "You can install it from disc if you want to, or you can download it" or "Insert the disc and right click on it in My Computer to play it". As it is I have 3 hours of downloading left so I will probably let it finish, in case I run into problems with the above. But it grinds my gears!
